Chapter 3 “Monster Appearance Part 2”

“My house has been haunted lately, is it your doing too?” Dawn asked grumpily after combining his own experience into the equation, “Why did you do it?”

How could he not be upset? Because of a single hamster, all of the tenants had moved out. He’s practically jobless and without income. Who wouldn’t be pissed? What’s more, if rumor spreads of his house being haunted by a ghost, who would come rent in the future? Unless he comes up with a good explanation after this ordeal, his future remains in jeopardy!

“Yaaa…. There were a few times where I got hungry and ate their rat food…. It gave me diarrhea you know for several days. As payback, I only scared them a bit as revenge.”

“You did it on purpose, right?” Dawn’s mind exploded.

“Of course not, why would I go around scaring people without reason. I’m not a pervert with some strange fetish you know. Not like there’s any benefit to me for going out of my way.”

The little hamster then tilted his head to the side and made a frowning face; “Landlord, you are kind and good-hearted, can you let me off the hook just this once. It’s hard to breathe when you’re pinching me so heavily. I might vomit at this rate.” The hamster wiggles its chubby body to emphasize the point, which tickled the human so slightly due to the fur.

“I can let you go, but you’re not allowed to run.” Dawn warns by glancing down at the little white furball before releasing his grip.

That was a mistake that instantly showed. In the second the hamster was free, his body promptly transformed into a wisp of white smoke and fled.

“….” Looking at the disappeared hamster, Dawn choked like he’s being suffocated.

Why do I feel like I’m being bullied? And by a monster at that. This world really is unbelievable.

Making a lamenting face, Dawn pats some of the dust off his body before turning around. Since the illusion was gone, the stairs naturally returned so it’s high time he went back upstairs. But then his mind recalled back to everything that happened in the basement.

“That cat meowing sound, is it from the pendant?” He murmurs to no one specific.

Dawn could be sure his judgment wasn’t wrong, but now no matter how he fiddled with the pendant, he could not find the source of the cat’s voice. Sighing at the predicament, he figured its best to investigate later and check up on his status instead.

Focusing his mind onto the pendant, his view was instantly filled with the various stats he had. Firstly, the mission stat had changed to “complete”, while the order points were raised from zero to five, just enough to open the so-called item inventory.

Of course, the prize wheel was also within Dawn’s range of use, but the five points only equated to one spin. Once spent, that’s it and no more. Thinking it through, such an expenditure would be a little frivolous for his current finances. Besides, gambling was gambling, such luck has never been his forte.

“The benefits given to novices like me is a bit low…. Why can’t it send me ten spins at once for free?” He complains with a murmur, groaning how unfair life was when he just endured a great scare.

After confirming the “inactive” word had disappeared from his item inventory after spending the order points, Dawn stared at the pendant with hopefulness for what was to come. To his own surprise, he didn’t expect half of his consciousness to be transported to a vast open space from out of the blue.

This perception was very strange for him. He could still see the outside world of course using his physical body, but the other half was also inside this mysterious space. It’s white, like a blank sheet of paper had overtaken half his view, but not entirely empty though. In the middle, he “saw” an irregular black mist of an existence staring back at him using a pair of blue vertical pupils!

In a shudder of a trance, his mind involuntarily withdrew from this space after making eye contact.
