I Slept Through The Apocalypse

Chapter 1 - Perfect Time For a Nap

Clover rubbed the lucky charm in his pocket as he was walking to school. It was his first day at Connie High School and he was not prepared in the slightest. It was a huge transition between middle school and high school for him. Whether it was friends, teachers, his salad lunch, everything was different in high school.

With that in mind he continued to stroll towards school in an unhurried manner. Perhaps he would make it to school on time. Perhaps he wouldn't. All he was thinking about was napping under some tree.

It was at this moment that far, far away, a ripple in space appeared which revealed a bright green glowing rock, heading towards the Earth.

The first person to spot the abnormal green rock hurtling towards the Earth as a little flashing green dot also happened to be a UFO enthusiast who was looking through an enhanced telescope.

Lord Heavens, are my eyes deceiving me or have I actually discovered a UFO?

He quickly recorded his findings and posted it on reddit.

"Look into the sky! At XXX celestial coordinates is there a faint glowing dot or am I just hallucinating?"

"You're right person above, I also see a faint glowing green… What is it?"

"I see it too!"

"Really? Lemme check…. My god it's TRUE."

"Ey how come NASA hasn't said anything"

"Don't question NASA they're our country's leading experts in this subject, I bet they're arranging a press conference as we speak"

"^^^ I never realized how hardworking and diligent NASA could be, having to deal with so much already. My respects to them."

"+1 for above"

"+1"

….

"+1000"

The Reddit post began to blow up bigger and bigger until it reached the top of the Reddit page!

Meanwhile within NASA headquarters, a certain employee was running towards the main office.

"Boss! This is an emergency!" He screamed as he knocked on the door of his boss. The employee's boss who was playing a lively game of Nexus Blitz while it was still available opened the door, seemingly very salty that one of his employees interrupted his scuttle race which let the other team obtain the battle sled.

"This better be important or you're in some deep trouble boy, you cost me the battle sled which Riot hasn't given me for EIGHT GAMES." He roared, spit flying everywhere including on the shaking employee's glasses.

The terrified employee trembled as he removed his glasses to wipe them. He led his boss into his cubicle and showed him the reddit post which now had over 100k upvotes. Boss looked at employee in shock.

"Is this true?"

"Everything checks out sir, I even took a look outside and saw it myself. It won't be long until the whole building knows"

"I'll go notify the higher ups. You play for me. I need 12 more knockups with the battle sled."

"...."

Clover now sat outside on a bench as he scanned the campus. It was lunchtime and all the other students were chatting within their own groups as they ate. Only Clover sat alone, eating his cold and crudely packed lunch of bland leafy greens. He sighed. Things were very different now in high school. People changed.

Although it was his choice to leave after the love of his life broke the news to him: she fell in love again with her ex-boyfriend. It still broke his tiny little twelve-year-old heart. As this was the age where emotions and hormones ran rampant, Clover was very s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e to these kinds of situations.

So there he was eating greens all by himself. Those who used to be his friends had left with his ex-girlfriend Lillian. It was awkward being in the same social circle as his ex-girlfriend. At first, they pitied him, they each had their cliche piece to say. Something along the lines of "I'm sorry about her..." or "you poor thing". Then when it came to social gatherings, he would be left out. As it would be awkward seeing your ex-girlfriend at a close friends' gathering. It became very clear that none of them really wanted him around in the first place. The only reason they were friendly with him was to talk to Lillian.

He just wanted to move on. But it was hard to get over someone in that circ.u.mstance. So he left that entire group.

Was I a fool for loving? Where did I go wrong?

Sometimes Clover would sit outside under the stars and think about it long and hard. Then he would think back to all the good times that they had. He'd recall every single time they went out, every argument that they had. Every sign of the situation going downhill. Everything.

He'd always reminisce those days, even the bad ones. They were the only memories he had when he was truly happy.

He cried for days on end back then when he made the heartbreaking decision to leave her. She was his whole world, but he had to end it there, because he knew the relationship would have only gotten more toxic. Clover always felt at a lost whenever he recalled that moment.

After crying for so long, he steeled himself to never shed a tear again. He then cut off all of the people related to her social circle who jeered at him and supported her side. Perhaps leaving those so-called friends of his was supposed to make him feel sad but instead the silence it brought with it was refreshing.

Clover looked over to the cafeteria and noticed Lillian eating and laughing with her snake friends. A little nostalgic, he sighed as he packed up his lunch. He felt like going on a walk, to clear his mind.

He again rubbed the lucky charm which he always had on him. It was a little red talisman with little golden symbols which didn't have any recognizable meaning whatsoever. The symbols were pretty and intricate. He got it from his mom who told him how she found it in her mother's backyard one day when she was young. Yet she was old now so it wouldn't have much use for her. He rubbed it again and felt a little better.

This charm has been with me through thick and thin. My life could have been a lot worse. But it worked out fine. I'm alive aren't I? As long as I have my lucky charm, I am invincible!

Clover walked over to a large, shady tree. He still had almost an hour left of lunch so he felt that it wouldn't hurt to take a nap.
