Chapter 26 - Memories (I)

It was a bright sunny day, warm sunlight pouring down on all creatures in the Holy Capital city of Saint Orthodoxy. Though, it was the arrival of a man which changed everything - at once, a heavy stifling pressure weighed down on everything in Holy Capital and countless ghastly specters loomed above them, turning previously bright day into lightless night. A strange Wheel full of strange runes floated calmly behind that man as he broke through the Holy Capital's sacred barrier.

On his left side, a dark knight stood silently. The knight's gaze was tinged in indifference to anything barred his King. To those on his side, a hint of respect could be seen on his gaze; to those on opposite side, only cruel merciless was seen from his eyes.

On the man's right side, a beautiful woman accompanied him, her gaze was cold as she stared at highest cathedral in Holy Capital. Her long black hair were tied into a long braid, reaching until her supple waist. Her figure was scantily clad in line of clothes which only covered most of her private parts, revealing most of her fair skin. While cl.u.s.ters of deep red flame raged around her; as if she was an embodiment of furious fire Elemental.

Behind their group of three, a group of six warriors stood not too far and not too close to each other - as though they stood on particular position in a formation.

Behind those nine people, an army of ghastly and devilish specters blanketed the earth and sky, quickly turning their surrounding area pitch-black; as all light in existence was s.u.c.k.e.d by them.

As that man stepped inside the sacred gate, his gaze peered far off into the highest cathedral. His face was so calm that it's terrifying. Like a boiling rage that's so over the limit that it turned into a silent rage - the rage was never disappeared, it's only suppressed to the limit and ready to be unleashed at once at any moment. Just like a frightening calm before terrifying storm.

"I have been tolerating you guys ever since you took your so-called Saintess away from me.

Since she also asked me for a favor, I didn't lay my rage on you.

This time, you all have gone too far!

Return her to me, or I will trample your kingdom to dust today."

He said coldly as his voice reverberated to all directions, terrified those who had retreated into inner wall defense. No one blocked his path as those who tried had already been turned into another groups of ghastly specters; becoming part of his army.

Several beams of light shot out from center of Holy Capital, arriving in front of that man as they turned into several people. A group of highly armored templars accompanied a middle-aged man in black priest attire. They immediately arranged themselves in combat formation, protecting the high priest in the middle.

"Nether Lord, you know what your actions entail?! You just breached the peace treaty we have agreed in last convergence."

The high priest spoke coldly in harsh tone. Anger and hate were written clearly on his face as he looked at devastating ruins in their surrounding. What was the glorious gate of Holy Capital and their valorous knights had been turned to dust or turned into the enemy's new pawns.

"That peace treaty? Heh! I don't bother with it as long as no one annoys me. But your side was the one who first breached that treaty.

You lot even dared to kidnap my wife, slaughtering your way in my region. Do you think I am that easily bullied?!

Return her to me and bring me those who participated in the acts, or I will surely uproot your kingdom today!"

Hearing that man's words, the high priest furrowed his brows as he f.o.r.c.i.b.l.y suppressed his anger. The higher-ups from Sacred Consortium suddenly closed themselves to do something important and tasked him to prevent Nether Lord from disturbing them. If he couldn't prevent him, he was supposed to delay him as much as he could. That's why he tried to talk with him.

'Those damned old fogies, have they gone mad?! Even if you're crazy, don't bring us down with you! That man has even brought his full army to our doorstep!!'

He connected the dots as he realized what kind of crazy mess those higher-ups caused. Even so, he prayed that what they did should have high enough merits for Saint Orthodoxy, knowing they had even decided to antagonize the Nether Lord.

"I don't know such thing, Nether Lord. The Orthodoxy would never break the treaty first. What I know is it's you who breached the treaty." The high priest stood firm to delay the time as he knew he and his group of templars weren't enough to handle the Nether Lord. He silently sent a signal to bring another reinforcement to aid him. Layer upon layer of barriers sprung up in his front, separating him and the Nether Lord.

'Master, we haven't found her. But we have narrowed down the possible places. Moreover, I found that 'Saintess' lass is also in quite a pinch here.'

'Mn. Good job, Shuten.'

'It's largely my merit, so you need to accompany me to a wine drink for a night later on~ .'

'.....be careful, although I have hidden your aura from them, 'he' may notice it if you blatantly use your power.'

'Mn mn. I know. That's why you need to compensate us more later on~~ '

"...I see, you lot are still that kind of hypocrites after all. It's a good thing you're also dumb though." The Nether Lord suddenly spoke. Pitch-black chains appeared from under his feet as they shot out, reaching to the high priest and templars as they easily passed through the barriers.

The templars protecting that high priest became sluggish as their ability to move was robbed. That high priest was barely able to move because his will was strong enough to resist the strange power which suddenly invaded his mind.

Smiling in contempt, the Nether Lord took a large stride as all those specters behind him marched forward, starting to corrode the new barriers. His eight aides also smiled strangely as their face slowly changed into that of the Nether Lord.

"..yo-you already sent them inside first?!"

"I never expect the lot of you to readily hand her over. From the start you're never able to stop me. It's me who is playing with the lot of you, fools. If you want to blame someone, blame your Saint Empyrean to make you a sacrificial victim."

As the high priest wanted to retort, he found he was unable to speak as his body slowly melted into a pool of black mud. While the templars already disappeared into another large pool of black mud. Just before he was thoroughly melted, he stared hopelessly at the sky - as if he was praying into something there.

"Saint Empyrean, there's no need to send your subordinates to die a meaningless death. If you want a fight, I'll accept it. There's no need to send someone to 'invite' my wife over!"

Meanwhile, the Nether Lord's Evil-Divine Wheel expanded as it flew upward. Shortly after it had already expanded enough that people in Holy Capital and surrounding areas might mistake it for a second sun - a black sun.

In response to his ever-growing Evil-Divine Wheel, another Wheel shot up from highest cathedral in Holy Capital. Unlike the sinister and cold aura from Evil-Divine Wheel, the second giant Wheel gave off warm and calm aura. Its brilliance shrouded the Holy Capital, cleansing the invading darkness.

"Do forgive me. You have refused my sincere invitations many times. I couldn't help to take that step as I am really curious about you. It's an auspicious time as several 'friends' also happen to be here. Why don't you have a treat for moment in my residence, Hell Empyrean?

Hmm, wait a moment, it looks like several sinners have also make their way into my city. I'll 'cleanse' them first so that our auspicious meeting won't be ruined."

His hidden meaning was, even if you know it's a trap, what can you do? Aren't you very caring to your women and friends? Hahaha! Come up here if you dare!

"Hmph!" The Nether Lord only gave a cold snort in reply to his taunt as he stared contemptuously at the sky , at a certain floating island which was hidden from public gazes.

The only place which was connected to it was the highest cathedral in Holy Capital. Only the core members of Saint Orthodoxy knew the secret pathway there. As for the Nether Lord, nothing in the world could elude his gaze as he was one of the strongest in current era.

After he made sure to arrange some more insurances to his eight companions, he flew upward directly to that floating island. His army of ghastly specters were still trying to corrode the barriers, though it seemed the barriers became a lot stronger after the Saint Empyrean's Wheel of Reincarnation came into existence, facing off with his Evil-Divine Wheel.

.....

In front of Caster, a certain memory surfaced in her mind as she stared at familiar scene in front of her.

"Hmm, now that I take closer look at her and you, you two seem like more similar to a True Ancestor- a half one... you have certain qualities of True Ancestor while some qualities of normal human. You two just turned into this state recently, right?"

"I guess you can call it so, Ms. Hinako Akuta."

"Master, you and lady Rukino is a vampire?" Gawain asked in surprise.

"Well, we just turned into one not too long ago. Before that, we're only 'normal' human." Rafi looked at Gawain with a meaningful gaze.

"No need to fret about it, Master. My conviction still stands strong as your knight. I was just surprised. Even the previous advisor of the Roundtable was also a half-incubus, as such I don't hold any prejudice to other non-human creatures." Gawain gave a brilliant smile as he patted his c.h.e.s.t.

"Hmm..." Hinako Akuta was silent as she thought, 'still, it's a pure lineage... just who is the one able to turn ordinary human into first generation True Ancestor? It shouldn't be the ancient Crimson Moon, right...'

"Her state is only caused because her original soul is still adapting to her new form. As she's a half-elemental, her soul won't die easily. Unlike true Elemental, she also can't reform her body with only her soul as she's tied to her human body. Guess that you only need to wait.

Ahh~ I'll head back then, and after I thought there would be something more interesting here." Hinako Akuta shrugged a little as she glanced at Rafi.

"Ugh, sorry for dragging you here, Ms. Hinako Akuta. And thank you for -"

"Just call me Hinako Akuta, I don't really like the way you call me. It just feels fake. You know who I am already, don't you?"

"Aha ha ha." Rafi averted his eyes as he looked around the room. When he caught a glance at Caster, he felt somewhat baffled. Although her face was hidden behind a layer of fog, he felt like she was smiling as she looked at them.

He already decided to talk about her identity with her later when they're alone. However his curiosity peaked as he suddenly asked her, "What do you think about what she said, Caster?"

Gawain and Hinako Akuta turned their gaze to Caster after they heard his sudden question. It was because they subconsciously sensed that Caster was looking at them too.

"Mn. What the Night Temptress said is correct. At normal times, that's what usually would happen. However this case is different..."

"-hey, are you talking about me?" Hinako Akuta called out after hearing how Caster addressed her. Both Gawain and Rafi were silent after the initial surprise as they realized something.

"Saki Rukino was supposed to wake up two weeks since that battle in the Labyrinth; in otherwords, it's around two or three days later. Due to a special circ.u.mstance, a certain someone managed to use this time frame to allow me to be here..." As she reached that part, Caster removed the fog surrounding her. Her robe disappeared as she was clad in light blue battle dress with metallic pads on her shoulder. Her staff turned into black rapier which glistened darkly, as if it was capable of devouring surrounding light.

...

At the same time as Caster fully removed her concealment, the earth trembled slightly and the skies shook a little. In a separate dimension above Earth, there was a floating gigantic palace. It kept overseeing Earth; unchanging and everlasting, as it kept guarding Earth from any possible threats at any timelines.

"Hmm, whose turn is this?"

"Fools, it's my turn! With this move, you can't never defeat the King of Heroes, mongrels."

"Ahh, you're cheating again! Cheating is a bad civilization!"

"I have no need to cheat, little girl. Because I AM the rule! Mwahahaha!"

"Hey, King of Heroes, do you hear about the announcement? Seems like there's another intruder."

"Hmph. Just let those Counter Guardians clean it up."

That group of people continued to take the cards as they stared at each other, trying to find clues from other's expression.

Shortly after the announcement, a beam of light was sent down from the floating palace to Earth.

"See, it's their job to clean those minor matters, Ozzy."

"Hmm, intruder... bad civilization. I guess I'll take a look at it."

"Oy. Are you serious, little girl? If you're going there, it will only make things worse."

"Hmm... but being here too long is boring... boring matter is also bad civilization..."

"Ahaha! That's the spirit, King of the Huns!"

...

"As I thought, it's really you..."

"This- you and her...? Just who are you?"

"...lady Rukino..."

As she looked at Rafi who seemed unsurprised, she smiled, "You should have realized it since the beginning. But I don't know why you were still playing along with it, Rafi."

"Well, uh, I think you have your own reason to hide it."

What appeared in front of them was someone who had a strikingly similar aura, look and figure to Saki Rukino who's still laying unconscious on the bed. Their differences were that Caster had a more m.a.t.u.r.e gaze as well as long blue hair which was a stark contrast with Saki Rukino's long black hair.

"...but why now?" Rafi asked.

"*sigh*... I am really unable to do it after all. If I say that someone asked me to silently kill you in the off chance, would you be mad, Rafi?" Tears streamed down her eyes as she smiled at him. It was not a joyous smile, as hers was a sad one; just like what one had after painful realization that one couldn't really change something in the end.

".....your bet, Rukino?"
