16 - Pregnancy

“I’m David Cho. Thanks for helping us out earlier.”

I was at the research lab of Akkad’s company, “Sumer”, where I was introduced to a smiling Asian man who would be my primary care physician.

I had still been holding out hope that Gray had been mistaken, but… “You are undoubtedly pregnant,” Doctor Cho gently informed me.

Bright natural light filtered into the lab as he held a scanner to my belly, before holding up the screen to me and explaining, “You’re in your tenth week.”

Dazed, I stared at the image of the fetus energetically moving its arms and legs1.

They just inspected my genetic make-up, and found evidence from the pap smear2 that I was given a uterus from the start, and they were pretty much able to confirm that I was fertilized through natural reproductive processes.

“Compared to the symptoms of normal humans, the side effects from your pregnancy are pretty light.” Doctor Cho nodded along countless times as he listened to me explain my physical condition.

“The child in your belly, it’s Alex’s, right?”

“Yes.”

I lowered my head in shame. My throat tightened, and I could push out only a small, hoarse voice.

“Doktor Satow… why would he do this sort of thing…”

“This is just conjecture, but I’d say he wanted to create Akkad’s weakness. That boy’s been terribly attracted to you for a while now. I think that Doktor Satow caught a whiff of it and believed that even Akkad would be forced to obey him if he used the person he loved and his child. What’s more, if he possessed Alex’s child, he’d be able to expect a significant increase in his fighting power in the near future.”

Fighting power. Something in my chest twisted painfully.

“Why was I… I’m a guy. If he wanted a child to be born, wouldn’t it have been better to use a woman?”

“There’s a chance that a cybertronic fetus as strong as Alex would destroy a human woman’s body from the inside out during the pregnancy. On the other hand, male androids are already popular subjects of augmentation research, so it was possible to strengthen the host’s reproductive organs to the utmost limits.”

Doctor Cho breathed a heavy sigh.

“Forcing someone to be fertilized without them knowing, using that person… that man did something unspeakably cruel to you. He makes use of research practices beyond unethical, and has made countless groundbreaking discoveries because of it. It’s why they call him a genius. But research that abandons ethics will undoubtedly leave behind a trail of victims.”

The doctor sat down on a chair and took my hand. He gently covered my hand with his.

“Hiroto-san, you’re a strong person. I heard the story from Alex, that you were able to repeatedly resist Doktor Sartow’s brainwashing. Even now, you fought against powerful Kaijin and made it all the way here. That’s proof of it. We’ll do everything we can to support you. Please rest assured.”

“Is that so? I’m such a coward, though.”3

I couldn’t believe that this is reality.

I can follow my instincts, at least. This world was more horrible than any nightmare.

After that, I locked myself up in a private room and didn’t see anyone for two days.

I’ve never once thought of androids reproducing, let alone things like children or getting pregnant. I was hit with all this overwhelming information a while ago, and for now I just wanted to be alone.

I crawled into bed and curled up into a ball.

My hand touched the lower part of my belly without meaning to, I was nervous and fidgety even when I went to the bathroom, that’s how in shock I was.

Pregnant. With a new life. What the fuck is this. Why did this have have to happen—

Finally, on the third day, I finally felt a bit back in touch with reality, and was coming to terms with the fact that something unbelievable had happened to my body. I made an appointment to meet up with Doctor Cho for a second time. The doctor asked if I would allow Akkad to also sit in.

He told me that he’d confirmed that the fetus was Akkad’s.

Akkad walked up to me timidly and gently pulled me into a hug.

“Did you… because you realized that I could give birth to a kid?”

I demanded, even with my face pressed into Akkad’s chest.

“How could I have? I did it because you were cute.”

He spoke indignantly, but even at a time like this he seemed to be smiling at me.

“Sorry. It looks like I’m even jumping at shadows.”

“When it comes to the kid, think it over slowly whether you want to give birth or not. Don’t worry about anything,” Akkad muttered to me, rubbing my back.

“If I’m being honest, I’d like you to keep it. But the one giving birth is you, Hiroto, so I respect your decision. Whichever you choose, I’ll always be on your side. I won’t hand you over to Doktor Satow or anyone else.”

Doctor Cho showed us to the sofa, and the two of us sat beside each other.

After talking about my physical state, mental state, and appetite, the topic turned to my life at Humbaba.

When Akkad heard that I’d met Gray at the research building, he scowled heavily.

“Alex. You mentioned a while ago that other Kaijin were also targeting Hiroto-san, isn’t that right?” Doctor Cho interrupted.

“Yeah. ‘Cause Hiroto’s cute.”

“Let’s put aside Alex’s besottedness. I think it’s very likely that the other Kaijin knew that Hiroto-san could get pregnant,” Doctor Cho turned over various documents with a strained face.

“I even investigated a set of genetic samples sent over by one of our moles, and among other regular combatants and Kaijin, Hiroto-san was the only one capable of pregnancy. Granted, we don’t know if there are more impregnable-type models stored in the innermost labs of Humbaba’s facilities.”

“So he’s a precious prototype. But then why would they allow him to participate in fights?”

“Hm, I wonder why. Hiroto’s battle suit had far greater defensive capabilities than the other combatants, and his spotters and aids were also top-notch, so I do think that Humbaba was carefully monitoring his safety.”

“It’s looking like there was some sort of agreement between the Doktor and the other Kaijin about Hiroto.”

“The fact of the matter is that unless we ask the people themselves, we won’t know. However, we can assume that Doktor Satow and the Kaijin won’t be giving up on Hiroto-san. We’ll have to pay extra close attention during attacks.”

After that, the doctor gave me a prescription for a nutrient supplement, and told me to come back with Akkad in three days.

After the medical exam finished, Akkad kept his arm around my shoulders and took me to a huge unit within Sumer’s residential quarters.

Peeking inside, everything was the same as the unit Akkad stayed in previously, with the same sort of household appliances, including what looked to be the same robot, who, identifying me, raised up his arm in greeting. “Long time no see. Hiroto-san.”

Akkad looked up at me.

“Live together with me from now on,” Akkad said with a misty, gentle smile.

Living with you again was one thing, I’m just glad I was able to reunite with Robot-kun.

After we finished eating together, Akkad turned to formally sit before me.

“I’m sorry I got you pregnant. I’ll take responsibility.”

“…….No, it’s fine,” I replied in a subdued murmur.

When I actually thought about it, we had only spent a few days together after we met each other.

Despite that, this dude has stumbled into becoming a father. Isn’t that too fast?

“If you’re saying that, is it alright if I touched your stomach?”

Akkad delicately touched my lower belly, and didn’t move for a long while.

“Can you feel anything?”

“No, nothing.”

I asked, since Akkad might’ve been able to detect something, but it seemed that was not the case.

He lifted me up in his arms and set me down on top of his knees, so that he could wrap his hands around my stomach from behind.

Tucked into a large body. Two hands warming my belly. These curious actions made all my energy suddenly slip away.

“Is it kicking you?”

“Not yet, I guess?”

This time Akkad asked me something, but I also didn’t know and shook my head.

Silence descended.

“….You don’t hate it?”

“How could I hate it? I’m surprised, sure, but because it’s a kid I made with you, I’m really happy,” Akkad cleverly replied.

""

“But if we’re talking about you, there’s no way I would’ve wanted to get you pregnant. In the end, I’m the one who’s at fault for losing to my desires and attacking you.”

Akkad hooked his chin over my shoulder, and whispered words like individual raindrops on my ears.

“I’m a cruel man. I wanted to save you, and instead I made you suffer.’

…You’re wrong. At that time, I didn’t refuse you.

I trembled in fear, but I was pleased to be sought after by a man like you.

I think I liked you from the start. I fell for you from the way you fought. Even if I was ordered to do it, I wouldn’t have slept with a guy I didn’t like.

Ah, I also lost to my desires. And these are the damn consequences.

TL: I dunno Hiroto, it seemed like you refused to me… but at the same time, いや and やめろ, while they mean ‘no’ and ‘stop’, are used all the time in porn to indicate overwhelming pleasure… like いや specifically refers to the state of being unpleasant or reluctant, i.e. it’s so pleasurable you’re uncomfortably overwhelmed. At the same time, in reality, what happens to consent when all the ways to say “no” are so sexualized? At the very least, these idiots need a safeword. What do y’all think?

Footnotes

I looked it up to make sure; while still underdeveloped, a fetus does have little arms and legs at 10 weeks 胎内には lit. within the womb. But obviously there’s a baby in the womb atm, so this is what I assume they mean. They might have also done a biopsy, but given how little they know, I doubt they’d risk the chance of infection or miscarriage 臆病な人間 lit. cowardly human.
