Infection: Dying Days

Chapter 42 - One Hour

(President Yang's POV)

"What are you trying to say?"

Trying my best to hold in my anger, I ask with a scowl. What's he trying to do?

Not noticing my internal thoughts, Reginald crossed his arms and coldly said.

"I meant what exactly what I said. Why don't we take this chance to leave. I'm not sure if any of you noticed but it's getting close to sundown. Once night hits, it'll be a lot more dangerous than what it already is. Don't you agree?"

...He has a point there. Although, it's still dangerous fighting the infected, at least we can still see them when it's day. If it's night however, we won't be able to see them as good. Even if we have the street lights to help us, they can only light up so much of an area. So, if we were to wait until night to get on the bus, then that's what we'll have to go through.

But despite this risk…

"No, I don't agree with you one bit."

I just can't leave everyone like that!

"Oh? Then can you tell me why?"

"Because I'm the Student Council President. I was elected by these students to become their leader, their role model! How would they feel if they made it here and found us gone? Angry? Distraught? Hatred? Hell, maybe all three. It's my responsibility to make sure I'm here for them. It's the faith they have in me as the Student Council President that lets them know they can make it here without the worry of being left behind!"

I didn't work hard to become the president for nothing. Other than for the sake of gaining leadership experience and finding talent, I genuinely wanted to lead the students of Pelican Soar Academy. I wanted them to strive to become someone better than they used to be.

Not that it matters now but these are my honest thoughts.

"Hmph, with that naive thinking we're doomed. We're here but they're not. I want to leave here ASAP and I'm pretty everyone here feels the same way. Raise your hand if you feel this way?"

Immediately after saying this, everyone started to raise their hand. It first started with the students and slowly made its way to the teachers, one by one, they all raised their hands. By the time everyone was done, the only people who didn't raise their hand was me, Andy and Amanda.

"See? I told you everyone wants to leave."

"That may be so but like I said earlier, because I'm the Student Council President, I'm not leaving until they make it here."

"Sigh, I thought you were smarter than this?"

Reginald said as he shook his head in disappointment.

Feeling a little pissed about what's going on as a whole, I ruthlessly said to him with a smirk.

"Yeah, I am smarter than this. Who was the one who rocked the top spot every on every test? Sure wasn't your skinny weak a.s.s."

"You bit- ahem, it's no use arguing with you. So how about this instead, let's wait for an hour. If nobody is here before the hour is up we'll leave. Sounds good?."

Although, Reginald wanted to say 'you b*tch', he managed to catch himself and put forth a suggestion.

"...Fine by me."

Although, I was extremely reluctant to agree, I nodded and accepted the proposal. At my nod, Reginald looked at the old clock hand said.

"I'm glad that we can come to an agreement. I'll start the time now."

And with that, the countdown started.

"I can't believe these people. A bunch of assholes!"

Andy gritted his teeth and said angrily the moment I walked over. I full heartedly agree with him, these people were assholes, but I can't throw my anger at them.

These people have their families to worry about. They could be dead for all they know, so why should they wait until nightfall?

Therefore, as much as I'd like to punch every person here, I can't.

"Tch!"

It's that son of a b*tch Reginald's fault.

If it wasn't for him riling up and creating unease for all the people here, we wouldn't be in this situation!

"D-do you think Desmond will make it in time?"

Amanda, who was standing right next to Andy had a look of worry on her face as she said this. Her voice was filled with concern.

Putting my anger towards Reginald to the side for the moment, I looked at Amanda and said with the utmost confidence and seriousness.

"He'll make it."

"Really?"

"Yep. I'm sure of it."

However, despite me saying this, I couldn't shake the feeling that something bad is about to happen. That blood trail in the hallway has me especially concerned. What the hell happened there? I never seen something so ominous!

"President Yang, I've been meaning to ask you."

Andy suddenly said. He seemed excited for some reason.

"What is it?"

"Can you teach me how to do the neck chop. Just like you did earlier?"

As he asked this, Andy did a chopping motion with his hand. That neck chop I did to that boy to knock him unconscious huh?

"Sure I can do that. You just have to hit them in a pressure point behind the neck or chop right along the carotid artery, momentarily constricting it to confuse the brain's blood pressure. Depending on how much force you use, you can momentarily stun them or knock them out."

"Cool!"

"Don't get too riled up yet. There's still a danger too this."

"Eh? Don't you just knock them out?"

"No. it's a lot more complicated than that. While, yes you can knock them out, there's also a risk of killing or disabling them instead. Let's take that guy I knocked out earlier as an example. If I was an inexperienced person and I tried to neck chop him, he could've died or he suffered from irreparable brain damage. But despite this, do you still want to learn?"

"On second thought, no. the power of the neck chop is just too much for me to handle."

Author's Note

Sorry for the late release. Preparing for the end of course exams so I've been studying non-stop. So it could be awhile before I release another chapter. Sigh, just the thought of how much studying I'll have to do in college after high school makes me not want to go.
