Difficult to Suppress

Shi An tries his best to keep himself busy, both physically and mentally.

When he had free time, he worked constantly on his papers, did class work, and even took on a lot of student council work, just to keep himself busy.

It was best to be so busy that he didn’t have time to think about anything. When he lay in bed at night, he could fall asleep as soon as he closed his eyes, and when opened his eyes the next day, he would have something to do.

Occasionally, when he was free, he would always be a little at a loss, not knowing what he was doing, like a foot in the air, falling into the void of indistinguishable space.

He also felt that Jiang Yuan’s physique seemed to be getting worse and worse.

The weather was getting warmer, but Jiang Yuan’s appetite was getting worse. She ate very little and sometimes even threw up, but refused to go to the hospital.

The old woman was so stubborn it was frightening. Shi An was so distracted by her that he always had a faint sense of powerlessness.

Shi An began to become irritable for no reason. Once, when discussing with Tong Zixin, they had a direct argument because of a difference of opinion.

In the end, Tong Zixin looked at him in a daze and said, “What’s wrong with you lately?”

Shi An was also stunned. He frowned and pressed his temples, feeling a fire burning at the bottom of his heart.

Where was Shi An, who was calm and gentle as jade?

He seemed to let go of all his strength in an instant, leaned his head back on the chair, staring at the ceiling in a daze.

In short, it was one thing after another.

After the art festival in May, Shi An received the news that he had passed the preliminary test of the Math Olympiad.

He held his mobile phone and stared at the notice of the second test time. However, after thinking about it for a long time, he couldn’t figure out when he took the preliminary test.

He went to Cheng Yuan with the notice, only to remember that the preliminary test was in the middle of the last semester.

Cheng Yuan registered him for the preliminary test. He went to the test at will. After the test, there was no reply for a long time. He also quickly forgot about it, and didn’t expect to pass it.

The revision for finals and the preparation for the second test together were enough to keep him busy.

Shi An had always been a person with limited energy, physically and mentally. It was the first time he was willing to put himself in such a busy state that he was overwhelmed.

The second test came quickly, and was held in the multimedia classroom on the second floor of the library, using the last class period of the afternoon to take the exam.

The library was a little far from the first-year school building, so Shi An didn’t do the eye exercises1 between the second period classes and went directly to the library.

There were only a dozen or so participants in the second test, and they were scattered throughout the large classroom,. Shi An found his own seat.

The classroom was air-conditioned, the air was cool and dry, and the harsh afternoon sun shone through the glass window and fell on the water fountain by the wall. The water in the water dispenser melted in the sunlight and sparklingly reflected on the white tiled floor.

The light golden sunlight haloed the transparent water bucket, reminding Shi An of someone’s eyes with light.

Like Yan Liang’s eyes.

Shi An looked at the warm glow and started to get a little sleepy. He propped his forehead slightly and his consciousness surprisingly started to blur a little until the invigilator came in and said something. He came to his senses with a jolt.

“Does anyone know Yan Liang from class 15? He didn’t come to the exam.” The invigilator stood at the podium and repeated several times, and one by one, the people in the classroom turned their attention to Shi An.

Hearing Yan Liang’s name, Shi An opened his half-closed eyes, straightened up, and turned his head to look at the invigilator on the stage.

“Student, do you have Yan Liang’s contact information?” With less than ten minutes to go before the start of the test, the teacher was a little anxious with the eyebrows frowned tightly, “Why isn’t he here? Did he not get the notice?”

Yan Liang?

Shi An’s knuckles curled slightly and he said in a light voice, “I have, wait a moment.”

He lowered his head, took his phone out, and sent a message to Yan Liang.

Yan Liang did not reply, probably did not see it. Shi An called him directly, but he hung up as soon as the call was made.

Shi An listened to the busy tone coming from the phone and was slightly stunned.

In a certain moment, he had a feeling of falling into an ice cave.

“I don’t think he’s coming, I don’t think he can answer the phone now that third period has started,” the teacher sighed and grunted, “What’s with this notification? How could anyone not get it?”

Class was in session.

The teacher’s words reminded Shi An, and his cold fingertips warmed slightly again, but he couldn’t help but feel panic in his heart.

“Teacher,” Shi An stood up from his seat, “I’ll go find him.”

The invigilator looked up at the clock on the wall; there were only seven minutes left before the exam started.

“Don’t go, if he doesn’t take the test, he doesn’t take the test. If you won’t be able to make it, I won’t let you in.”

As he spoke, Shi An had already reached the door. Holding the door frame with one hand, he turned back towards the invigilator and nodded slightly, saying, “Excuse me. I’ll be right back.”

The invigilator wanted to scold someone. She frowned and turned her head, but after she saw Shi An’s face, she couldn’t scold him, and was speechless when Shi An turned and ran out.

Shi An ran very fast, he hadn’t ran so fast in a long time.

Although he knew that Yan Liang had hung up on him because he was in class, Shi An still couldn’t help but feel a little confused.

He desperately wanted to see Yan Liang immediately, to see Yan Liang’s eyes, Yan Liang’s expression, as if that was the only way to calm him down again.

Shi An ran up to the fifth floor in one breath, panting violently against the wall at the corner of the stairs.

It was a mess. Shi An raised his hand to cover his eyes and bent down deeply, suddenly feeling strange about himself.

What was he doing here?

Was he still Shi An?

Shi An closed his eyes, then slowly opened them again, the emotions in his eyes that were swirling calmed down almost instantly.

He walked to the door of class 15, raised his knuckles and knocked gently on the door.

Yan Liang sat class on the podium, one hand supporting his forehead, the other hand spinning a gel pen, seemingly thinking about the problem, without even raising his head, and said indifferently, “Come in.”

Sure enough, Yan Liang hung up the phone because he was in class.

A certain suspicion in his heart was dispelled, and Shi An’s tense nerves were immediately relieved. He held the door frame and adjusted his chaotic breathing, suddenly feeling very tired.

The person at the door was still standing in place, not meaning to come in. Yan Liang frowned slightly, turning his head, saying: “I told you to enter…”

The rest of the words ended abruptly.

Yan Liang looked at Shi An who was standing in the doorway against the light, showing a bewildered and surprised look.

Shi An didn’t stand up straight, his lips were pale, his expression was cold and tired, and his whole person looked a little shaky.

“Go to the test.”

Shi An leaned against the door, took out candy and put it in his mouth, fighting back the dizziness caused by low blood sugar. His voice was weak: “It’s too late. Go.”

Yan Liang apparently also completely forgot about the preliminary test that was taken hundreds of years ago. The two of them finally stepped on time and barely made it to the exam.

Shi An was so dizzy that he held his forehead with one hand, narrowed his eyes and barely looked at the densely packed test questions on the paper.

There was a tree outside the library, and the shadow of the tree wrapped in the sunlight shifted slowly on the pages, making Shi An feel almost weightless as if his body was hanging in the air.

After handing in his paper, Shi An slumped on his desk, his head buried in the crook of his arm, his dizziness slightly relieved.

As he tried to eat another candy, someone tapped on his desk.

A certain thought that had been suppressed in the bottom of his heart rose up, Shi An lifted his head and, as expected, ran into the peachy eyes of someone with lacquered pupils.

Yan Liang propped his hand on the table, slightly lowered his body, and his slightly deep voice whispered in his ear, “Are you not feeling well?”

Shi An’s heart was sore and soft in an instant.

The faint fragrance from the tips of Shi An’s hair floated into Yan Liang’s nose. His eyes uncontrollably tracing Shi’an’s pale lips, steamy eyes, slender neck, and unwrinkled neckline.

Yan Liang came back to his senses, his knuckles pressed on the desktop curled uncontrollably. He quickly straightened up and put his hands back behind himself.

In the infirmary, Shi An held a disposable paper cup and took a small sip of water mixed with glucose.

The glucose with water was still sweet and sticky to his throat, but Shi An’s tongue was slightly bitter.

Yan Liang sat next to him and quietly waited for him to finish the glucose.

He did not want to drink too fast, try to sip a small sip, and pretend that he had been drinking.

He thought Yan Liang would not care about him anymore.

Could this be interpreted as Yan Liang still tolerating his ridiculous and incomprehensible mind?

Sure enough, it was because Yan Liang was too nice.

After all, he was such a gentle person.

Shi An slowly finished the glucose in the cup and turned his head to look at Yan Liang.

He was like a child with no opinion. His glistening eyes turned Yan Liang’s heart into a puddle of water.

Yan Liang originally thought that as long as he stayed away from Shi An, his despicable and absurd mind would sooner or later disappear and everything would return to the right track sooner or later.

A clean person like Shi An shouldn’t be tainted by his thoughts.

However, it didn’t work.

He seemed to have stepped into a strange circle, everything was out of the original track. After clarifying his mind, everything was pressed on the fast forward button, and it became more and more out of control.

The mountains were flooded with water.

It was hard to stop the water.

Couldn’t help it.

But how could it be?

He was too presumptuous.

Yan Liang slightly turned his face sideways and reached out to take Shi An’s empty cup. The paper cup’s mouth was bitten by Shi An with deep teeth marks.

“You rest a little longer,” Yan Liang stood up, his fingers moving to smooth out the non-existent folds on his shirt, “Remember to eat dinner.”

Shi An leaned on the cold back of the chair, raised his eyes slightly, did not want to and did not have the strength to answer.

Yan Liang went straight out the door of the school doctor’s office. When he reached the door, he raised his hand slightly, and the paper cup in his hand fell into the trash can by the door in a beautiful arc.

Shi An watched his back going a little farther away, and closed his eyes again, slightly tilting his head back against the back of the chair.
