“Good morning, Hiroyuki-chan. Nice morning, isn’t it~?”

“Hello there, Ryoko. You’re in good spirits on a Monday morning”

“Really? Ehehe~”

On a depressing Monday morning, the smile of my childhood friend Ryoko Kamo, who was waiting in front of my house, was too bright for me, who had spent a depressing Sunday since Saturday’s incident

“Are~, Hiroyuki-chan. You don’t look well.”

“Really? Though isn’t this normal for me on Mondays?”

‘Hmm… Is that so? Well It’s true that Hiroyuki-chan is always down on Mondays, but today I feel like you’re doing worse than usual.”

“As expected…”

We have known each other since we were children after all. Our houses are next to each other.

“Well, I’ve been through some stuff. I’m a little nervous.”

“Really? If that’s the case, you can consult me for advice.”

“Ah… that’s right. I’d like to ask you for some advice. However…”

“Good morning! Hiro, Ryoko!”

“Just in time, Let me just explain it to that idiot too.”

“Eek, Hiroyuki-chan! You can’t! Don’t call Tomomi an idiot!”

“Hm? What’s wrong?”

Tomomi Suzuki, another childhood friend of mine, who was riding her bicycle at full speed, stopped with a squeak and looked at me with a puzzled look on her face.

“Nothing. I just thought you’re looking good this morning.”

“Iyaa~~. You’re making me feel embarrassed. But Hiro looks so dull in the morning. He’s so lucky to be able to go to school with two beautiful girls like us every morning, and here is having such a gloomy face in the morning, what’s wrong?”

Tomomi slaps my back with a bang as she says so.

Ouch!

“Who’s the beautiful girl, who is it? I’ll give Ryoko a hundred score, but you, you’re not a pretty girl.”

“What! I admit Ryoko is a beautiful girl! But I’m a pretty girl too y’know! Even though I look like this, I’m actually popular!”

“Within the girls…”

While Ryoko is more of an attractive girl and a girl you would want to protect, Tomomi is the complete opposite. Tomomi is the ace of the girls’ basketball team, and her boyish clothes and behavior, as well as her short hair, have made her popular among the girls. Well, she has a pretty face, but she isn’t someone I’d call a “bishojo” (beautiful girl).

“Eee, stop it  Hiroyuki-chan and Tomomi-chan … Tomomi-chan? Hiroyuki-chan could look pretty good-looking too. “

“Good looking? Well, I think Hiro could be better if he did something about that annoying hair of his, but whether he’s good-looking or not is another matter, isn’t it?”

“Mou~ Mou~ Tomomi-chan!”

“Well, Hiro’s charming points aren’t in his face! That’s good!  Right, Hiro?”

“Oh whatever. That aside. I have something to tell you two.”

“Tell? What, Hiroyuki-chan?”

“Good news or bad news?”

“Bad news. For me anyway”

And it’s the biggest one ever. I could see them gasp at my words, and I continued.

“Well I… got a fiancee”

The screams echoed through the residential area Monday morning.

◇◆◇

“Hey, Hiro. Is Uncle still at home?”

“My dad? I think he’s still at home. What’s wrong?”

I decided it was not a topic I wanted to talk about in front of my house, so I told her about what happened on Saturday, during the ride to school. After turning blue, red, white, and then red again, Tomomi stopped the bike she was pushing, looked at me and smiled.

“I’m going to punch him in the face. Just a bit.”

She said with a thumbs up and a smile on her face.

Wait no!

“What are you talking about?!”

“Exactly. Tomomi-chan! What are you talking about?!”

“What do you mean? I’m not being crazy, you know.”

“You are crazy! Anyone would probably think so too!”

Violence! (T/N- He says this in english)

“That’s right! What are you talking about, Tomomi-chan! You’re supposed to hit him in the stomach, not in the face!”

“Yes..?”(E/N: Mc said this, don’t mistake the yes for confirmation, since it probably came from the word Hai, which can have different meanings depending on how you say it, and here, it’s used as a confused agreement. Or simply “come again?”)

Ryoko? What are you talking about?

“As expected of Ryoko! I can agree, otherwise it would leave a bruise.”

“Exactly!”

“That’s right! Wait no! What do you guys think you’re talking about?!”

What surprised me was that even Ryoko, who is usually quiet, aside from Tomomi, would say such a thing.

“What are you guys on?! This is human trafficking! This is not allowed in peaceful modern Japan!”

“True. But in the first place, Hiroyuki-chan, why did you accept it so easily?

Is your fiancee really that cute?”

“That’s not the case. It’s not…”

It’s not? I thought about it a lot on Sunday. But you know what?

“My dad has a company, you know that right?”

“Yes! That must be the source of all evil!”

“Don’t call it that, Ryoko.. Well, if you’re running a company you’ve got to hire people right? It’s a small company after all…see, I have been trained hard/treated roughly, you know that right?”

“Well…

“You have a point, but…”

My father’s company is a small and somewhat cozy one. He often took me, Ryoko and Tomomi, my childhood friends, along on company trips, and all the employees treated me very well. Well, as his son I can see that he is not that good of a manager, but he is well-liked by people in general.

“Toku-san  just had a baby the other day, and Yamagishi-san’s daughter will be a college student next year, right? If my father’s company goes bankrupt in the midst of all this…”

We would be in trouble too.

Well, according to what I heard yesterday, my father’s family is a prestigious one, and they may be able to provide some kind of assistance to him… But even if they do, it probably won’t be immediate.

“Well, if that’s the case… maybe it’s best if I hold back.”(E/N: Probably said by either Ryoko or Tomomi, in case you’re confused.)

“…”

“…”

“Come on now, Don’t be so gloomy.”

“Of course I would be gloomy, baka. Datte mou~ . Hiro no baka~!” (TL Note- Used japanese for better auditory imagery )

“Isn’t calling me an idiot a bit rude.(E/N: Baka can either mean idiot, stupid etc.)

“I think so, too. I think it’s very admirable and cool that Hiroyuki puts up with it for everyone’s sake, but… I still think you’re an idiot, Hiroyuki!”

Well, I agree. I think I’m an idiot too.

“And… hey?”

“Mhm, Ah!”

“This is a pretty bad situation, isn’t it, Ryoko?”

“It’s too bad… Honestly, I didn’t expect this.”

“What do we do?”

“Tell Akemi? She might be able to help us.”

“Yeah… well, we can rely on her, but when Akemi comes out, she looks like she’s taken the head of a devil”

“Exactly”

“Hey, why is Akemi coming out?”

Akemi is the only daughter of the head family of Higashi Kujo and a classmate of ours. She used to come over to my house often, so of course she knows Ryoko and Tomomo, but…

“It’s nothing, Hiroyuki-chan”

“Yeah, it’s nothing, Hiro.”

“There’s definitely something…”

“It’s nothing. Besides Hiro?  Who is the fiancee you were talking about?”

“May I have a word with you? Hiroyuki Higashi Kujo.”

Suddenly.

I was so engrossed in the conversation that I didn’t notice it. I had arrived at the school gate, there, I heard a voice calling out to me. I turned my gaze in that direction and there she was.

My fiancee, Ayane Kiryu, standing there with her arms crossed, looking rather annoyed.
