Kiryu took me by the hand (not really), and I followed her, then we boarded the train for two stops, and after about 20 minutes of traveling, we got off at the station.

“Isn’t this Niitsu?”

“Niitsu” is a famous place in our city, a high-end residential area commonly known as “Denenchofu”. There are no entertainment venues here, so even though I have lived in this town for 17 years, I have only visited it once or twice. And that was only to run errands for my father’s business.

“Wait? Don’t tell me the mansion your dad bought is… in here?”

“Yeah.”

“Didn’t you say that it was close to the school?”

“If it takes twenty minutes by train, it’s close, isn’t it? My house takes an hour by car.”

“You go to school that far from home?”

I didn’t know. I mean the fact that she goes to school by car. She really is an ojou-sama.

“…Hm? But if you go to school by car, wouldn’t there be more rumors that even I should’ve heard by now?”

I don’t remember any black luxury cars or anything parked at the school gate.

“I get dropped off about a ten-minute walk away.”

“Why? Isn’t that a pain?”

If it were me, I’d get a ride upto the school gate.

“Why you ask… Tian Eikan High School is a normal private high school, right? How would they feel if they saw a black luxury car parked in front of the school gate at a high school like that?”

“You’ll definitely be a target for scorn.”

“I’m used to being exposed to people’s malice, but that doesn’t mean that I want to be exposed to it. Therefore walking is an easier option.”

”But.. Niitsu?”

“What? Complaints?”

‘I’m not complaining, But… I mean, why…? I’m a little freaked out.”

There is a certain “luxury” overflowing from this entire city. Even a dandy running around or a madam walking her dog seems to have a certain elegance.

“Well, most people who live around here are rich and are of high social status.”

“I feel out of place..”

“What are you talking about? Even so, Niitsu is a newly developed residential area. You’re the son of a noble family in this day and age. You’re no less prestigious than the rest of us.”

“Well, I didn’t know about it until last Saturday.”

“Really?”

“I knew that the main family was absurdly big, and all my relatives were well-to-do, so I knew they must have a lot of money. That’s why I was so taken aback by my father’s debt on Saturday.”

Thinking about it calmly, why did my dad borrow money from Kiryu’s dad? I wonder if he hated our family.

“I see… well, I wonder if that’s the educational policy of the Higashi kujo’s.”

“Is it? Well, now that I think about it, my relative Akemi, for example, usually spoke like an ojou-sama. I always thought it was weird. “

“Akemi? Oh you mean Akemi Higashi Kujo-sama?”

“You’ve met her?”

“A few times at parties. She’s gorgeous, isn’t she?”

“I suppose.”

“…”

“What?”

“Are you really related to her?”

“I’ve had my suspicions, too, it seems like she’s a second cousin of mine in case you’re also wondering.”

Akemi is a slender beauty, and she certainly doesn’t look anything like me, who has a plain face. I’m not sure since I have a sister, but it wouldn’t be surprising if there was actually no resemblance between us.

“I see. But, when you come from a family as big as Higashi Kujo, you’re going to have a lot of relatives like you, right?”

“Really?”

“If the blood has been circulating in the family for hundreds of years, it is natural that some same characteristics will appear. I also have the impression that many of the older families are beautiful. Well that’s my personal opinion.”

“That’s the second time.”

“That’s right. You often see beautiful princes and princesses in stories, don’t you? It’s a matter of course. The powerful people of a country can choose any beautiful woman or good-looking man they want.”

“I see…”

I remember something like that. Some prince or something fell in love with a silver screen actress and married her. Of course, the children of beautiful actresses are often genetically beautiful.

“But I digress. The reason I chose Niitsu was partly because I found a good property there, but also to reduce rumors.”

“Reduce rumors?”

“Common sense dictates that it’s not a good idea to have a school boy and a girl living under one roof, right?”

“Well, of course.”

“I don’t mean to be rude, but most people who send their children to Tian Eikan High School don’t have the financial resources to own a house in Niitsu. It’s an upscale residential area, and there’s no reason for high school students to come all the way here to hang out.”

“You have a point.”

Even I wouldn’t want to come back here if it wasn’t for my dad’s errands.

“So you’re saying you won’t see any of your classmates if you do this?”

“I don’t think the possibility is zero… Still, it’s a lot less likely than renting an apartment near the school, don’t you think? I don’t like it , being pestered all the time.

You don’t like it? I nodded my head in agreement. Surely you wouldn’t want to go out of your way to make trouble for yourself…

“Ah.”

“What’s with the “Ah”, you’re making me nervous.”

“No, well you don’t like talking too much right?”

“That’s a given. Wait, no way. Did you–?”

“I’m sorry. I told Tomomi and Ryoko.”

Oh no, the absolute zero stare. I guess it’s a reward for a special streak, but for me, it’s an unnerving stare.

“Hm. I guess, it’s okay. I’m sure Suzuki-san and Kamo-san will find out sooner or later anyway. You three always come to school together, don’t you?”

“Pretty much.”

“If you suddenly stopped going with them, they would think that it’s “strange”… Well, those two should be fine.”

“Sorry about that.”

“It’s my fault for not nailing it down first. Don’t worry about it. But don’t spread the word any further! It will definitely get you in trouble!”

“I understand, but what about you?”

She tilted her head to my words.

“Do you think I have friends who would talk to me like that?”

“Oh… My bad.”

“It’s fine I told you. I don’t really need friends.”

I walked silently behind Kiryu, who said, “Well, we’d better get going.” I already mentioned that Niitsu was an upscale neighborhood, but there are houses which are even more upscale. Japanese houses, so big you can’t tell where the property ends and Western-style houses with walls so high that they looked as if Hollywood actors might be living in them. I looked around at the houses and saw a Western-style house which I couldn’t even imagine how expensive it would have been to make.

“It’s here.”

“Seriously?”

A tall apartment building towers in front of me. I’m guessing around 30 floors tall? The first thing that comes to my mind is that it looks like a luxury hotel, and I… and Kiryu were surprised to see it.

“This is your first time seeing this?”

“Yeah…”

“Which floor?”

“32nd floor. It’s the top floor. It’s a five-bedroom apartment, by the way.”

“…”

“…”

“It would be awful if the elevator breaks down.”

“Yeah, that’s all I can think of at the moment.”

I couldn’t help but sigh seeing how out of the ordinary this is.

“What kind of house is this for two highschool students to live in?!”

My voice and Kiryu’s echoed in a volume that was not appropriate for a quiet residential area.
