Jack Schnee [RWBY]

Chapter 37 - Did they see?

Behind me, I saw the recognizable face of Penny right behind me. Why? Why her? If it was anybody else then I could just erase their memory and move on but Penny doesn't have a mind I can manipulate and I have no idea where her memory function even is in the first place. Can I even manipulate such complex technology with my power anyway?

Jack: Did you see it?

Penny: See what? I saw your clothes change all on their own. It was honestly pretty cool.

Jack: Penny, you're my friend right.

Penny: Of course.

Jack: Can you please keep my magical clothes a secret?

Penny: Sure, that's what friends are for.

Jack: Penny, do you know what a secret is?

Penny: No.

Jack: Okay, this means that you can't tell anyone about my clothes under any circ.u.mstances.

Penny: Roger.

Jack: What are you doing here anyway?

Penny: I heard someone talking about how a dangerous criminal was in the area so I was checking to see if there was anyone like that.

Jack: My sister just caught my teammate, Olga, but he's probably not the person you're referring to.

Penny: It was regarding a Mr.Dark Phantom.

Is that why he helped out? It was unusual to see him active during the day when he's mostly known to act at night. Anyway, it's not good to stick around for the time being. I'd rather not be connected in any way to what just went down.

Jack: Penny, do you want to keep looking or you planning on doing something else?

Penny: I'll be leaving so I'll see you around Jack.

Penny dashed away and eventually, she was out of sight. I made my way back to Beacon for the day hoping that nothing else would happen. After arriving at my room, I placed the snow globe on my desk thinking to myself that I should make a trophy room to hold important things in the future. Just in case, I move the grimoire to a better hiding place just in case someone comes searching this room. I do wonder what happened to Emerald after the battle though.

[Emerald POV]

Where am I?

I look around to see myself in a disheveled room full of clutter. Books, mats, and various useless trinkets were all over the place. I look to the side of the room where I see a gray-haired man with a prosthetic leg fiddling with the scroll in his hand. Who is this guy? Why am I here?

I look to the side to see a beautiful woman with long blue hair that seems to be fixing some high tech suit on a table in front of her. I try to move but I was suddenly filled with pain throughout my body. There were wounds all over my body and I could tell from experience that they were burned wounds. What experience am I referring to? I don't remember. The guy must've noticed that I woke up since he started talking to me.

Gray-Man: We were both beaten pretty badly, but why didn't your illusions work.

Emerald: Illusions?

Gray-Man: Don't tell me that this guy's immune to the illusions too. If so taking him down is going to be even harder than I thought.

Blue Woman: He had some interesting help as well. Now, why would Olga help the Dark Phantom?

Gray-Man: I'm pretty sure that Dark Phantom and this guy are two different people since Dark Phantom would've killed Cinder if she was that close to death.

Blue Woman: If it's not him, then I can only imagine that they're working together which also doesn't help our situation any. He's a pain to deal with since we don't know where his true body is or what they look like.

Gray-Man: Emerald, did he give any indication of who he was.

I don't remember anything that he's talking about, but I don't know how he'll react if I say I don't know anything.

Emerald: He didn't give anything away like usual.

Gray-Man: I see. Emerald, you're going to have to stay here for the next few days to recover. I'll just say your sick in the meantime.

Emerald: Oh, thanks.

The gray-haired man stares at me like I just asked if he heard something foreign to him. What did I do wrong?

Gray-Man: Did you just thank me? Are you feeling okay?

Emerald: I'm fine.

Gray-Man: You haven't lost your temper, insulted me, or showed the disgustingly evil part of yourself that I like so much.

I don't think I can pretend to be the person he expects because I have no memory of doing anything he's talking about or even his name. I could act mean as he said but any pointed questions will instantly give me away. It would be easier if they didn't already suspect me of losing my memory already. Maybe I should just tell them the truth since I'm already helpless enough as it is. There no telling what they'll do to get the information out of me.

Emerald: I'm sorry, but I don't know who you're referring to since I don't know who any of you are.

The room went deadly quiet. No one moved. No one spoke. The only thing in the room that was keeping me company was the sound of my heart rapidly beating like a drum. I slowly looked over to the gray-haired man but what looked back at me was eyes filled with anger and rage. He walked out of the room and slammed the door behind him. The woman's facial expression didn't change at all. I don't know if it was because she didn't care or was just always expressionless. She merely turned toward me and said, "I'll inform Madam and your situation will be handled by her". She left the room as well and I was left alone with nothing but my thoughts.

Madam. Who is this Madam? Is she the boss? What is she the boss of? Is it a dangerous criminal organization? What was I doing with my life to end up like this? I don't remember anything about them. No matter how I try, I can't recall them. I lay back down since I'm in no condition to move yet and even if I were to escape where would I go? Does my hometown still exists or was it destroyed by Grimm? What about my mother? I honestly not sure I want the answers to these questions. It could be that losing my memories was a blessing in disguise and this is my chance to start over a new, better person. I know one thing for sure, this will definitively change the direction of my life. I close my eyes and quickly fall into a deep sleep.

[Cinder POV]

That man is continually getting in the way of my plans. Weirdly, he seems to have been well informed on who we are and what our plans are. Even if I take into consideration Dark Phantom as a traitor, I never told him about the mission at the dance. It was all for naught, however, as I was able to get into the system anyway. Torchwich getting captured also threw another wrench in the plan. I would never say it to his face but he is useful as a pawn. Now he's taken out another crucial factor in the plan to bring down Beacon by stripping Emerald of her memories. She's useless to me now. I can't have her new sense of responsibility and justice interfere with the plan anymore. I've already had to change the plan but now I'll have to change it again without Emerald this time. Emerald is a loose end at this point. It would be best to get rid of her but killing her will make Mercury look even more suspicious wandering the halls on his own and he would be disqualified from the competition. I guess, for now, Mercury will have to put up with her and do all of his missions solo from now on. I guess I'll have to make another appearance at the school sooner rather than later if the Fall Maiden sticks around.
