Jack Schnee [RWBY]

Chapter 49 - Give me your best smile!

Ozpin POV

Ozpin: Qrow, what happened out there?

Qrow: Oz, you can't be serious. There was a human Grimm at our academy, and you wanted to just let it go. Don't you know how hard it is to kill one of them, not to mention that it being here at a time like this is no coincidence. Our enemies are here right now, and they are planning their next attack.

Ozpin: It's a part of one of the student's semblance. It's different from the one you encountered before. Besides, we have a good enough read on who's trying to come and what there planning on doing. We do however could use all the eyes we can afford so I'll need you to be extra vigilant of anything strange going on other than the human Grimm incident.

Qrow: Oz, just for reference. Who owns the humanoid Grimm?

Ozpin: Jack Schnee.

Jack POV

After the incident with Qrow, I retreated into my room. As far as introductions went, it could 've been a whole lot better. I look at Bagels condition and there's no way that he's going to be in fighting shape by tomorrow. Well, Kim and I can handle whatever duo comes are way. It also probably isn't a good idea to thrust him in front of Qrow again after what happened. I lay down in my bed wondering what's in store for me tomorrow. I close my eyes and right before I fell asleep my scroll started ringing beside me. I pick it up only to hear Winter complaining about how I didn't text or call her to let her know I found Bagels instead of hearing it from other people around campus. I tell her okay and apologize before falling asleep for real this time.

The next morning, I wake up get dressed and prepare for my next opponent in the tournament. After breakfast, I meet with Kim and the rest of my team to discuss what kind of strategies Kim and I should perform. They all start giving out ideas, some more than others, and even though I should say no idea was a stupid idea, it's just not true for some of the one's Olga comes up with. I mean really, seduce your opponents before knocking them out. I hope he's joking and not serious about that one. Eventually, we get a decent plan going on that doesn't involve Bagels. Planning is important but it's not like we know exactly what the field or our opponents are to lay down serious strategies. It's like that quote I heard from somewhere, "Make a plan, execute the plan, expect the plan to go off the rails, throw away the plan". It was strange though how all of my plans so far haven't worked out the way I wanted them to. Am I cursed? Hmm. Thoughts for another time as I ponder the bigger issue in front of me. Everyone on my team has learned about Bagels transforming into a human by rumors going around campus. People are worried that a Grimm managed to infiltrate the academy and is doing some unsavory business with the people here. Even though everyone on my team knows that it's true, its strange that such rumors would be circulating around. I thought it was strange until I thought about Cinder and her plan. She must be using the Bagels incident to incite fear into the people in town and whoever's gullible enough to believe the story. It doesn't help that it was a such a big scene yesterday that it would be hard to disprove such rumors. Honestly, it was a great move on their part considering that I have no real counters for stopping what their trying to do. Either way, I'll just have to keep it in mind going forward.

Now it's time for my match to start. I walk into the arena with Kim by my side to fight off against our opponents for the doubles round. Our opponents, Leslie and Arnold, must have some skill since they were able to make it to the doubles round in this tournament. Leslie is a short, blonde mace user that seems to be wearing a full set of armor like a knight. Since I saw her, that smile has not left her face and I'm getting a bad feeling from it. Right next to her is a tall dark-skinned man with short black hair and unlike his partner, he's wearing absolutely no armor to protect himself. He holds his ax in his hand and gives off vibe that seems to tell people that he doesn't care about other people or the things around him. I didn't watch their match so I don't know what they're capable of, but this will be one of the last times before Cinder starts her plan that I can have an honest match against other people without having other people's lives at stake. I look at the screens around me and see the four biomes that have been chosen for the fight. The Urban, Geyser, Savanna and Forest biomes have been chosen. I look at our opponents one last time before we begin our fight.

Leslie: Don't expect to win since we're your opponents.

Arnold: Let's get this over with.

Kim and I retreat to the Urban area so that Kim can use her semblance on the destroyed buildings and I can help support her if anything goes wrong. I may not be able to use Bagels but I can summon other Grimm to help me out. We rush toward the area with our opponents trailing behind us. Leslie seems to be a little on the slow slide while Arnold is catching us to us quicker than I anticipated. We run into one of the buildings and Arnold charges toward me wielding his ax. I block with Light and Kim sends pieces of rubble toward his back. Arnold instantly sidesteps out of the way as I was hit with some of the rubble. Arnold takes this chance to push me into an adjacent room while I see Leslie rush into the building and starts to attack Kim. I summon a boar Grimm to charge towards Arnold. His eyes flash a blue light as he puts his ax on his back and grabs the charging boar with his hands. He manages to stop the charge alone with pure strength. I was impressed as I jump on top of my Grimm and slash toward him with Light once again. Once again, his eyes glow blue as he manages to barely shift his body away from the tip of my blade. I think I'm figuring out what his semblance is and man is it a pain. I turn toward Kim to see how she's doing against her opponent. Kim now has that same creepy smile on her face as Leslie does and she seems to be struggling less and less against Leslie assault on her. I leap of my Grimm's back as change the dial to red dust as I slash towards Leslie with a blade covered in flame. Leslie blocks the attack but has stopped assaulting Kim for the time being. I yell at Kim to snap out of it and to get Arnold. Kim loses the smile slightly as she starts to attack Arnold with her staff. Arnold has let go of the boar at this point, but he still has to deal with my Grimm alongside Kim as well. I turn away from them as I focus on Leslie. I ruthlessly attack her with Light with the dial still set to red dust. I could see her struggle to keep up with my attacks and could see her dripping from sweat from the combination of heat and physical exertion. Leslie then locks eyes with me as I'm filled with a sense of happiness that spreads from my c.h.e.s.t to the rest of my body. I slow down my attacks against Leslie. Why am I fighting her? I could feel my face stretching into a wide smile. There's no need for violence with such joy in my heart right. I slowed down some more as Leslie raised her mace above her head. Instinctually, I moved away from her as I noticed the smile on Leslie's face twitch a little bit. Leslie then starts to speak to me telling me to focus on the happy memories dealing with my friends at Beacon. I start to think about the time I first met Kim, Olga, and Eve at the school. I remember the time I went out to dinner with my friends, the time I walked around town with them, and many of the great times that we just hung out and talked to each other. I felt more tension leave my body. She told me to remember the people I've helped along the way. I recalled saving Amber from her fate and becoming friends with her as I helped her regain consciousness and become her own person. My hand was loosely gripping Light in my hand now and I was almost ready to drop it. Leslie grin got wider as she told me to think about my family. It was then that I once again remembered that my mom left with that terrible man. The suffering, the abuse, and the pain that I'd experienced everyday flowed through me like a rushing river. I could feel once again the many beating and insults that was lunged in my direction by my father. Any other memories seem to be eclipsed by these memories as the blissful warmth quickly left my body and what was left was the hatred that I felt for that man. I had pushed it down for such a long time that it seemed overwhelming when it all came to the surface. Leslie looks shocked at what happened. Everything was going well until she mentioned his family.

I was so angry at the memories and the emotions I had to feel once again that I swung my blade without holding back on Leslie. The blade cut through Leslie's armor like butter as the blade cut through her aura and she collapsed onto the ground. Seeing Leslie on the ground hadn't alleviated my anger as I turned to Arnold struggling with Kim. Arnold eyes were constantly flashing blue as he dodged different pieces of rubble from all around him as he was handling Kim's staff attacks head on. I looked for an opening and the second he dodged left to dodge Kim's staff, I leaped in and slashed Light down on him. He blocked it with his ax as I kicked his legs. He stumbled and Kim took the opportunity to bash him against the head with her staff. He fell to the ground and I heard the announcer announced our victory. Even though we won, I wasn't the least bit happy about it as I left the arena.
