Chapter 56 - Jewels don't always shine!

[Emerald POV]

I honestly not sure how I'm handling Mercury right now. Even without a semblance, he's a very skilled close combat fighter. It's taking everything I have not to get beaten to a pulp. Not to mention helping Amber out. If anything Amber is helping me with my fight while he fights against Cinder and Professor Freeze. The gusts of winds and fireballs she throwing around are forcing them to move but I feel it's going to take more than that to bring them down. I focus on Mercury running towards me again. He kicks toward my left but I quickly block the attack as another kick hits me in the c.h.e.s.t and pushes me back. I change my dual lades into their gun form and shoot at Mercury. He gets hit with some of the shots but he manages to dodge the rest as he runs around the rooftop.

He once again makes his way over to me while dodging my bullets but this time I manage to activate my semblance and show him an illusion of me charging toward him head-on. I charge toward him as well but it's not head-on like my illusion. I run at him from the side with my dual blades in hand ready to slash him. He kicks the illusion and it disappears as I appear next to him. I attempt to slash him with my blades as he spins out of the way, jumps up and kicks me in the back of my head. I'm dazed for a second as Professor Freeze grabs me and throws me off the rooftop. On instinct, I drive my blades into the wall to slow down my fall. I guess that I fell at least five stories before I stopped falling. I climb up to a nearby window as I rush up the stairs to help out Amber. I hear the sound of thunder as I run wondering how a storm approached this quickly. There's no telling how the fight's going to go with it as a three on one instead of two on one. I run up the stairs as fast as I can only to see pure chaos on top of the rooftop as I reached the top. Amber dropped all restraints seeing myself flown off the roof and proceeded to create a thunderstorm that's currently raining lightning bolts from the sky. Amber is currently hovering in the air looking down on her targets from above. Seconds later, I could see Mercury get shocked by a combination of three lightning bolts as he falls to the ground unconscious if not dead.

Maybe it's better if I don't go up onto the rooftop. I turn toward Prof. Freeze dodging the lightning using the jet-pack on her suit. I slowly see a smile form on her face as Amber sends another three lighting bolts towards Prof. Freeze. She stops and her suit absorbs the electricity into it. Amber is shocked as the professor shoots a single powerful bolt of lightning back at her. Amber screams in pain as she starts to fall from the sky. Cinder shoots another arrow at Amber as she falls and I could instantly tell that it was aiming at her heart. My own heart stops at the realization but I'm powerless to do anything. I watch as the arrow gets closer and closer to her heart until a cane deflects the attack. It seems that the headmaster of Beacon Academy has finally made his appearance.

[Cinder POV]

I made Freeze's suit specifically to counter the fall maiden's power considering our previous battle combined with what she knows about their powers. This suit is designed to counter her strengths and use them against her. Not to mention all the extra features that come with it. It's built with an energy barrier to block her flames and ice if she managed to train her powers enough to create it. The flight is for extra mobility and flexibility while also allowing her to dodge any attacks from the ground if needed. The energy blade is just a semi powerful weapon that's stronger than the average blade. Also, the suit comes with a strong battery that powers the whole thing. If struck by lightning than the electrical current will maneuver to the battery for an extra charge that can be directed back towards the opponents through the gauntlets on the suit. Of course, you still overload the suit with enough power but the Fall Maiden didn't know that. Everything is coming together as I saw her fall from the sky. Even as she conjuring up winds and shooting fire from her hands, it all looked like a child throwing a tantrum. She still doesn't understand how that power should be used. Well, it was never meant for her anyway since it was always meant for me. I draw back my bow and shoot a perfect shot aiming for her heart. Everything was going according to plan until Ozpin showed up and block the arrow. He caught her and saved her from splatting onto the ground.

It seems this fight just got even harder but it doesn't matter much since Ozpin will fall as well. I shoot at least twenty arrows in quick succession towards Ozpin but he manages to block them all. If I didn't know any better I would say that he was using his semblance to increase his speed because no normal human could move that fast. Ozpin arriving does make things more difficult for me, but either way, he's going down. The Fall Maiden was injured badly from the last attack so she's not going to be moving around that much. She still looks determined to fight so I suspect she'll just be backing up Ozpin in the fight.

I fire more arrows at Ozpin as Freeze charges toward the Fall Maiden. Freeze manages to block all of the girl's attack but Ozpin blocks her attacks when she gets close. Freeze uses the energy blade to ruthlessly attack Ozpin hoping to destroy his cane but she's no match for his speed as he dodges all her attacks and creates new holes in the suit. I keep attacking Ozpin but no matter what I seem to throw at him he either dodges or blocks the attack. Freeze's suit keeps taking damage from his attacks so it won't be long until its destroyed. Honestly, this battle would be hopeless at this point if I didn't call for help ahead of time. I glanced straight at the Fall Maiden as she was pierced by the sharpened tip of an umbrella.

The girl fell to the ground as blood was gushing from the wound. Freeze seeing the situation attacked Ozpin even harder with whatever energy she had left to push him further away from her. Ozpin seemed to be slowing down so this renewed energy from Freeze surprised him and it allowed Freeze to distract him long enough for me to rush over to her. The pathetic little girl looked up at me with such pitiable eyes as I pulled back my bow. I let it go as it flew straight at her face.
