Larger Than Life, Bigger Than Us

LingLing had not yet noticed Lily's state. All he could see was the line of people waiting for the young girl to move. Lily wasn't paying attention to any of them. All she could see was the exquisite couple discussing together which triggered chaotic feelings in her. The more she stared the more she became convinced they were people she knew.

LingLing had lost his patience, so he grabbed Lily's hand, firmly determined to drag her away from the entrance. Lily barely noticed that she was being pulled away. Her eyes kept fixing on the mirrored wall. As she was going to protest against LingLing forceful pull, the lights started to dim down and spotlights shined onto the stage. There was some kind of announcement but all that were just buzzing sounds to Lily's ears. She saw the couple walking slowly towards the stage.

As the young man stood up in the light, he carefully examined the crowd. Through the mirror, he came across Lily's eyes. A succession of emotions passed then through his face : surprise, incredulity, confusion, relief, happiness... Did he recognized her?

"Ran...RAN.... RRRRRRAAAAANNNN....!!" LingLing screaming at her, completely woke up Lily from her concentration. The heavy headache started to lessen. Lily let herself drag away into the garden. She didn't know if that was a figment of her imagination but she could have sworn someone was calling her name. Lily. Not Ran. But as they walked further into the garden she couldn't hear her name anymore but she could clearly hear LingLing fuming next to her...

The young man was pacing furiously next to her, oblivious to the paleness of her complexion.

"Are you here to embarrass our whole family? Can't you use common sense?! What went through your mind to stop in a middle of an entrance blocking the exit for more than 15 minutes?!"

Lily couldn't comprehend why that was an embarrassment. In any case, now that she had regained her senses, she had to go further investigate the young couple she saw.

"I am sorry...brother...I was feeling dizzy and forgot where I was...I'll go refresh myself.." Lily pretended to be meek and fragile. With her trembling voice, her glowing wet eyes and her ghostly complexion, even a demon would have been appeased. LingLing being just an imm.a.t.u.r.e youngster, he wasn't indifferent to Lily's sweet act and thus couldn't find in him the will to reproach her anything anymore.

LingLing gave her some pain reliever and insisted to accompany her to the ladies washrooms. Lily looked at him quite confused, she thought the young man despised her but here he was with some headache pills.

"Doctor Shi said it would be of use.... and Big Brother asked me to take care of you....there is no way I would care about you...you are a still a nobody!"

But the tone wasn't so hostile anymore. That's when Lily realized that her brother-in+law was just a tsundere kid!
