Life After Death

8 First Mission

During this period Alyx did not want to waste time and wanted to start training but there was just a tiny problem. Everything needed CP even access to VR. He can only do research on the various civilization which have some power in the universe and the threats to Aons. Since he already decided to join the A-force it's the least he can do. Even though it is just some basic information, for him it was very useful.

That's why when facing Neo he had a stiff expression. It was taking a lot of self-control for him not to lash out at Neo.

But Neo just faced him with a stoic expression and continued "During this period you should have become more familiar with being an Aon. Let's now continue with where I left off."

"How can I get CP when I am this weak and new?" Alyx blurted out.

Neo gave him the same indifferent look and said, "You can do some odd jobs on MB Neo and by helping me you can earn some CP."

*Accept communication request*

After accepting the request Ax got access to a mission's site of some kind. Some of them are weird to say the least.

[Resolve the conflict between the Lizardmen and Dragons of the Quadrant 10. Reward -10 CP.]

[Find a cure to the plague effecting the plantations in Q20. Reward-50CP]

This first was the easiest among the many available.

"Why are all missions other than the first so difficult?" Alyx was perplexed. How can they expect a newborn Aon to do these? Also the first one is easy only on the premise that they don't attack.

"Every Aon has their own specialty, unlike you who was randomly selected and the missions update regularly. Once a mission is accepted by someone it is temporarily removed and reintroduced upon their failure." Upon hearing it Alyx immediately selected the first one so as to not loose it.

*Mission accepted. Time limit one year*

"Why should we interfere in the matters of other races? It's not like they are going to be extinct." Alyx was unable to stop himself from asking as MBN was huge and it was just one quadrant. The surface area of MBN is divided into many quadrants and each quadrant covers a huge area and it is very rare for any mission to involve two or more quadrants.

"Preventable loss of resources should not be ignored. Small skirmishes are acceptable but a large scale war between them is not in our interests." Neo answered.

"Do they recognize Aons as their masters?" Alyx asked the most important question.

"They won't attack you but you cannot order them. They only respect power and you are very weak compared to them. If it can be solved by an order it would not be posted as a mission. It is a repeated occurrence so you have to find the crux of the problem." Replied Neo as if it was not a difficult task.

'If it is so easy why don't you do it then?' Alyx wanted to retort. 'But he might be busy in other tasks and this task should be beneath him. The one before me should not be his main body and just a simple clone. For him sending his clone to me is the most he can do as guidance.' Alyx knew from his research that most Aons use many low level clones to do unimportant work which don't require much power.

Neo continued with his explanation about missions and Alyx understood that these missions are not available forever. Most of the missions are not of physical nature but more of research and diplomatic type. This is to help newborn Aons gain some CP safely.

Newborn Aons are allowed to stay on their birth star for around 100 years. Yes, you heard it right. For Aons it is a 'small' adaptation period provided so they can develop in a 'safe' environment and receive 'guidance' from a senior.

Alyx was able to accept the 'small time period' part after the previous encounter with Neo but after looking at some of the mission he is starting to question whether the guidance is the same guidance he has in mind or not.

During this adaptation period newborn Aons enjoy many benefits like free accommodation and body repair services. They can even learn many things for a discounted CP.

'Although the rewards for the mission were very low but the discounted rates make up for it.'

*sigh*

'My starting point is very low compared to others. I should quickly improve so that I can take up more missions with higher rewards.'

-------------------------------

Lizardmen are one of the demi-human races on MBN. They are humanoid lizards that have shared human and reptilian characteristics. Lizardmen dwell in the marshes of the MBN and are found in almost all quadrants.

At least a generation ago, the ancestors of the current lizardmen tribes migrated to Q10 in search of a new home. They came in conflict with the indigenous races that had settled in and around the marshes of the biggest lake in Q10, particularly the Dragons. War erupted between the two races, but due to the Dragons being more advanced, they were able to drive the lizardmen out of the northern region and destroyed one tribe of lizardmen.

The conflict was due to the scarce resources in and around the lake. But due to food shortages, especially fish and other low intelligence animals, the dragons and lizardmen started hunting each other for food. Although in an earlier mission the scarcity of food was resolved by introducing a few domesticated species for food, which repopulate very quickly, it was only able to bring peace for a short period.

In the earlier wars the grudges between the both races built up to a point where they can't see each other in the eye. The matter became worse when few individuals on either side secretly hunt other side as a revenge. The present war occurred due to the death of a prominent leader of the lizardmen. He was well respected and was set to become the head of the lizardmen. It was the straw which broke the camel's back.
