Chapter 22 - Dark Magic?

"Lady Letisha, don't you think that man was a little too suspicious? He knew who you were, yet he didn't look afraid at all. He seemed a little untrustworthy"

Marie didn't like the fact that Patrick just so happened to drop his glasses right in front of the carriage in that specific time. There are too many coincidences, but most are really too good to be true. To Marie, there is a big chance Patrick meeting them is one of those coincidences that are too good to be true.

Letisha took a quick glance at Marie, raising a smile at her thoughtfulness "You are in the right mindset Marie, but although he's untrustworthy, he isn't our enemy"

Marie looking puzzled at the assertion of her lady asked "Miss How are you so sure he's not an enemy? We don't know his motivations or his background at all."

Letisha replied with an amused look, crossing her arms together to show her confidence about her claim "First of all, if he was trying to do us harm, then why did he not attack when he was in close proximity with us"

Marie at first pondered why Letisha would say he's harmless to them, but after she revealed her first point, she began to falter a little. Why would he not attack when they were right next to him? It would have been easy to just pull a knife he hid and charge straight at them. If he were trying to harm two girls next to him, it would be pretty easy.

Letisha continued her points "Secondly, didn't he say he was a wizard, wouldn't that make him adept in using magic? If so, why didn't he use any magic to damage the carriage, or even burn us with it?"

Marie chimed in wanting to confirm something "Couldn't he have just been bluffing? That curly haired man looked to be the sleazy type, he wouldn't bat an eye in telling a lie for sure!"

Sleazy....Marie, I want to see what goes on in that head of yours...

Letisha sighs at Marie's persistent accusations on Patrick "Look at this Marie" Letisha brings out the name card she received from Patrick "Can you tell me what you see on this card?"

"Isn't it just a name on a card? I don't real-"

Squinting her eyes closely on the card, Marie finally saw something out of the ordinary. The card didn't use any ink.

Marie gasped "It can't be..."

Letisha, points at the imprinted name "You finally see it, this black substance is not ink!"

The letters on the card were black but with a closer look you can tell something was off. The black name isn't imprinted on the card, but just slightly above it.

Marie became breathless, sweat formed on her face as she stared intently at the sight of the black shade formed into letters hanging only a fingernail length of the card "Th this is dark magic!"

Letisha was confused at the sudden outburst of Marie at the sight of just floating black letters. Is the magic used by Patrick that great? To Letisha it was something that looked accomplishable due to it not being flashy in the slightest.

But Marie had a completely different outlook than Letisha. Although she wasn't an expert in magic by any standards, she was able to use some basic magic such as making a cup of water. During her studies of magic, she also had been taught some common knowledge about attributes in magic, and she could tell these black letters were from dark magic.

Letisha, being curious about Marie's sudden change asked "Marie, is there something odd about the black letters?"

Marie snapped back to reality from Letisha's words "Oh, Umm I guess they didn't teach you this yet miss, but the magic inscribed within the letters is dark magic"

"Dark magic?" Felice didn't have any knowledge about this type of magic because like a majority of the magic within this world, they didn't exist in her world. The only type of magic Felice learned when she was a knight, happened to be sense enhancing magic, the magic which enhances her five sense, and strength.

"Yes, Dark magic" Marie reconfirmed "Dark magic, is one of the most advanced, and dangerous attributes a magic user can use. Unlike the other attributes, dark magic consumes more mana, and has a higher damage output. These facts make dark magic something an average wizard would avoid. Usually only people with high mana pools can use dark magic for leisure."

To Marie, the man named Patrick, though the dark magic spell he casted is in no way destructive, it tells her that he has the confidence to use dark magic on menial things like a name card. If he had this much mana to spare, one could only imagine the depths of his mana pool.

Marie had a grim look in her face, as her face turned a little pale from the realization

"Lady Letisha, this magic is not something any normal wizard would be able to do..."

Letisha had complicated thoughts about Marie's information. On one hand she became ecstatic that her backer was someone so strong, but on the other hand, the fear of the power difference was clawing her anxiousness.

However this did prove Letisha's theory that Patrick could have ended them if he was someone that had evil intentions. "Do you believe he doesn't have evil intentions now?" Letisha made a smile to try to mask her insecurities
