Life Restart

Chapter 23 - Cain Bynsteel

The self deprecated look in Letisha's face made both her, and Marie nervous of what is yet to come.

A few moments ago, they could've lost their lives if they made the wrong move.

They should've felt relief, but what they though of was the other possible outcomes.

What if they became aggressive like the coachman, and offended this monster....

Letisha wiped the sweat on her forehead off with her handkerchief, she was just glad that she had a more forgiving character towards commoners than other nobles.

In the Flytian Royal Academy, where the most prominent citizens of the country send their children to learn. It is currently after instruction hours, students are heading back to the dorms to retire for the day.

But at one of the empty classrooms there are two students still present, A short blond haired student is working on his paperwork, while his black haired friend stares intently at him, from the neighboring desk, looking bored.

"Cain, do you ever get tired focusing all your energy in studying all the time?" The black haired boy rested his chin on one of his palms, tapping his desk with, his fingers as he looked at his blonde friend

"....." The blond haired student, although hearing the words of his classmate, never turned away from his work. He pretended to not hear him, opting to continue writing with his quill, dipping it in ink occasionally.

Cain never believed being popular and social with female students were necessary, only treating his fans as fools with nothing better to do.

It could be said that he treated only two women in his life with care, his mother and his sister.

But in recent times, it is hard to tell if you could still include his sister within that list.

Even with the lack of a response, the boy continued speaking

"Jeez, sometimes I wonder what the female students see in you, they praise you as some sort of uncrowned prince, yet what I see is just a block of ice that never warms up to anyone. I'm a little astonished you can live with being this cold to everyone, aren't you afraid of being alone?"

"You're lucky to have a good friend like me, that can contrast perfectly with you, balancing you're cold nature, with my bright attitude." The black haired boy nodded in satisfaction of his words, flashing a smile to himself.

"..." Cain ignored his narcissistic remarks

The boy sighed at the lack of response "What would you do without me?"

"Oh! By the way some news is going around" The black haired boy leaned towards Cain "I heard, some interesting things from the instructors, when I was eavesdropping them"

"Apparently, there are going to be some special students joining this year, and one of them is your very own sister"

Cain stopped writing immediately, hearing this news. He didn't move for a few seconds, just taking in the unexpected news. For once his friend said something he was interested in, and not just ramblings about useless rubbish.

"Letisha is?" Not looking at his friend, Cain seeked confirmation

Seeing Cain's dumbfoundedness, his friend seemed a little more energetic for gossiping. This was a rare moment where he actually caught the interest of his boring friend that thought only about studying "Yes, isn't that exciting, your spoiled sister is going to be joining the school."

"Spoiled?" Cain furrowed his brows in the unfavorable word being used to describe his family member

"Come on, are you going to tell me that she isn't spoiled? After all the things she did to her servants, and don't forget the prince's birthday banquet"

Cain couldn't deny what he said, afterall his sister had a bad personality overall. He knew better than anyone else how he and his parents have raised Letisha to be like a princess. But he would still not let anyone, including his friend talk badly about her. It wasn't sure whether, this was due to his family's reputation on the line, or the fact that Letisha was his sister.

Feeling a little irritated, Cain's tone became more serious, and cold "Damien, don't talk about my sister, she's not someone you, a son of a baron, can insult freely."

What Cain said wasn't a request for his friend to stop, but a demand for him to cease his topic about Letisha's bad temper. Cain's eyes showed that he wouldn't tolerate anymore words that pertained about his sister.

Damien, his black haired friend felt a little startled hearing the sudden shift of emotions within Cain's words. At this moment he knew he went a little too far with his playfullness, he might have hit close to Cain's bottom line, when reminding him about the embarrassing things his sister has done.

"Yes my bad" This Damien, knew he had to turn submissive before he makes more mistakes. "Shall we talk about another topic then?"

Cain seeing his friend's 'understanding' attitude, grunted in response to his proposal.
