Chapter 9 - A Newly 'Maid' Friendship

As we exited the room, I remembered the most important thing you needed to ask for in an encounter.

"Excuse me, may I ask for your name?" I tapped the maids shoulder in order to gain her attention.

"Oh, my apologies young miss, I forgot you don't have your past memories" The maid says, fl.u.s.tered at her own forgetfulness

"This servant's name is Marie" Marie turns toward me and curtsies in an elegant fashion befitting a maid of a duke's house.

But as I stare at her face, I can see her face scrunched up full of nervousness.

She seems to be a little worried, I should try to make a better impression than the previous Letisha. First let's try to get rid of this stiffness between us. That should calm her down a little.

"You don't have to call me young mistress, just Letisha is fine"

"No, i couldn't do that, after all you're the lady of the house, and I'm just a maid" The Maid firmly tries to deny her master's request, shaking her head left and right fervently.

"Before master and servant, we are both young girls aren't we? So I'd appreciate it if you can call me by my name and be my friend Marie" I make the widest smile, and close my eyes to a crescent shape. This should show that I mean no harm to her. I just want to get rid of the formal atmosphere between us.

'Actually now that I think about it, I mean mentally I am 28, so young might be a little stretched for me, oh well body is young so I guess it's alright'

Marie stares at me blankly, and a few seconds later tears start dripping down her face without a change of facial expression on Marie's face.

OH NO! Did I do something wrong? I was just trying to be less formal. Was it my smile? Was my smile that scary? What should I do? I start having cold sweat drip on the back of my neck.

I started contemplating on other ways to make Marie smile, or less afraid of me, but as I was about to enact the ideas I came up with, a girl's voice reached my ears.

"I didn't thi"

I didn't thi-?

"I didn't think an angel can take a humans form"

Angel, you mean the ones that have wings and live in heaven. I am very positive i'm not an angel, I mean i'm just trying to be a little less formal, If i'm an angel then every person who doesn't like being formal is an angel, which I couldn't even begin to imagine, about half of the world would be angels.

"I think that's over-exaggerating a little too much Marie" I try to tone Marie's thoughts down while gesturing my hands to help her calm down. I'm sorry to burst your bubble Marie, but I'm just a normal human, nothing worth worshiping or idolizing.

Marie stares at me with a determined face "NO NOT AT ALL! Letisha sama your actions would light up anyone's heart, when you smile you look and feel like a living angel" Marie starts to blush and fiddle with her fingers avoiding Letisha's face because of embarrassment.

I chuckle at how honest Marie is with her opinions, it gives off a fresh gleeful feeling. Marie has a very unique personality, though I still think calling me an angel is an overstatement but at least her attitude towards me changed. I think maybe I can become friends with her now.

"So Marie will you be my friend?"

"YES! It would be my honor"Marie replies with enthusiasm

'Hmm my very first friend in both lives, just thinking about it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside'

When we resumed traveling from my room towards the staircase and to the dining room, I spot servants to the sides of the staircase whispering and avoiding eye contact with me like I was a wild beast without a collar to restrict me.

Marie though comforts me by saying they didn't know about my new change, and they would welcome it with open arms once they found out. Even though I don't know the old Letisha, I still feel a little pity for her surroundings. The most hurtful comments are those said behind your backs.

Marie opens the door to the dining hall and announces my arrival to my parents. I feel a little nervous because there are a few unfamiliar faces around the outskirts of the room who are servants that I have never met with, I'm shy when having all these eyes on me. When I take my first step, I was welcomed by my parents which calms my nerves entirely.

"Good morning Letisha" My parents said in unison

"Thank you and good morning to you to Father, Mother." I say in response while doing a curtsy and respond to them with a smile that was similar to the one I gave Marie earlier.

The room became silent. Not even a single word is uttered. Everyone's eyes are entranced on me.

I saw both my parents look at me with a blank face and blushing a little. Their thoughts were how they didn't expect their daughter to smile that brightly, and that she would be this courteous and regal when approaching them. The surprise caught also the servants off guard.

Noise suddenly spurred a few seconds later. The people producing it aren't my parents but the maids and butlers who started whispering to each other.

'Is this really the young mistress?'

'I heard she lost her memories but seeing is believing'

'People can change this much?'

In the corner of my eyes I see Marie with a triumphant face which shows she's proud of my new self being revealed. She's acting like the club president to my fan club.

I ignore the murmurs and sat on the chair right next to my mother, and across from my father. We started eating the breakfast that is served. The food that was served was better than any restaurant I went to in my old world. After each bite I could feel my taste buds burst with joy on every wave of flavor I encounter.

I'm pretty sure my emotions were showing on my face because my parents and everyone else in the room were chuckling while looking at me. How Embarrassing.
