Life With A System

Chapter 29 - Treasure

Xiu! Xiu!

The players in the northern forest dropped their jaws as they stared at Xia Shishu, instantly killing a Green Forest Bird.

Even level 10 players wouldn't be able to deal such ridiculous damage at this stage of the game, especially to flying birds!

They curiously observed Xia Shishu, but they only got more curious as they gazed on. He wore a refined black tuxedo while wielding a modern crossbow! How can they not get curious?

Although it was stated that people will not be restricted to what they create in Second Reality, how can anyone create such refined equipment in the beginning stage of the game??? He wouldn't have the technology to do so.

But it was still possible if players completed super unique quests and received those equipment as rewards.

Envy.

Jealousy.

Admiration.

Players stared at Xia Shishu with various emotions.

Eh? Some players gasped. He's approaching them!

"Hello! Have you guys seen any violet birds around here?" Xia Shishu asked the players.

After arriving at the gate, he did not see the ghost lady waiting for him outside, so he happily carried on his way towards the Northern Forest. But the quest didn't go smoothly.

Due to the fact that most players only had melee weapons in the beginning villages, and because most of the monsterlings were flying birds as big as chickens, there weren't that many players around.

Thus, this created a perfect environment for him to go on a killing spree with his crossbow! It's just too bad that he could not find any violet birds at all, so completing Niu Qiqi's quest will just have to be pushed back.

"Violet birds? I've heard that there were sightings of violet birds deeper into the woods" One player answered, trying to get close to Xia Shishu.

"Okay! Thanks!" Xia Shishu thanked the player and turned to leave.

"Sigh.." The player who answered Xia Shishu sulked. Too bad the pro didn't give him any benefits.

Xiu!

[Killed Green Forest Bird, Regular Monster, Level 6]

Xia Shishu shot down a bird as he turned to leave.

To be honest, the crossbow was pretty good! He only needs a little practice to be able to shoot accurately within 10 meters. The system also helps him automatically reload his bolts, so that's a plus.

The drawbacks of having the crossbow are that it takes 3 seconds to reload, and he has to manually go pick up his expensive bolts after shooting.

And because many of Second Reality's monsters do not drop money, he also had to loot any monster that he kills even if the items are trash. That is because no matter how trashy the item is, it could still be sold for a little bit of spare change back in the villages and cities.

Though picking up his bolts and looting monsters did not cause his slaughtering speed to lessen. In fact, his EXP shot up like fireworks!

As he traveled deeper into the forest while shooting down birds, his body suddenly glowed a bright white light for a split second.

[Congratulations! You have leveled up. All Stat Points +1, Artibute Points +1, Skill Point +1. EXP: 0/150,000]

Dream's voice sounded in his head, indicating that he had leveled up.

"This is easier than I thought!" Xia Shishu mumbled. Hunting down birds for EXP is quite good! Well, it's easy mostly due to the fact that the birds don't agro by themselves, and due to the fact that he can instantly kill them with his crossbow.

"Strange. The cap to my EXP bar is 10 times the normal amount." Xia Shishu furrowed his brow at his EXP bar. Inside, he felt that his System had really corrupted the Second Reality system!

Through his research of Second Reality while in school, he heard that normal players have a smaller EXP bar.

Normally, a player's EXP should have started at 10,000. Then, it should have turned into 15,000.

Yet, his EXP bar became 150,000. He wouldn't complain about it in his current situation, though, because he does feel that he has quite an advantage over other people. For one, it seemed like his DPS is a whole lot larger than others. And two, he's already a cheat-like existence in the game due to being able to bring things in from reality.

While pondering about his character, he saw a golden snake as thick as his arm slithered across a particularly large tree in his peripheral vision. It sneakily tried to get close to him.

Shivers went down his spine, and he quickly aimed his crossbow at the snake.

The number one thing he is scared of are spirits, and the second is snakes!

Those deadly eyes and long scaly bodies are just an equivalence to danger! Even if it's not poisonous, it can still strangle you and choke you to death! Furthermore, a snake's mouth can open up to four times its size! Such a freaking scary organism!

As Xia Shishu pulled his trigger, a flashback of his elementary days came into his mind. Back then, during science class, the teacher had let the whole class play with her collection of pets.

She had a few lovebirds, a bearded dragon lizard, two turtles, and a bunch of f*cking corn snakes! At the time, half of the students were fond of the corn snakes. They particularly liked to watch the corn snakes swallow little white mice.

Although the teacher had said that the snakes aren't dangerous, Xia Shishu never believed her. Especially when his classmates let the corn snakes wrap around their arms and neck.

He just stayed as far away as possible from the snakes and played with turtles instead. Yet, one of his classmates still had the audacity to ask him if he wanted the snake around his neck as well.

Bap!

His bolt accurately pinned the large snake onto the tree branch and it squirmed around like a worm during a sunny day on the sidewalk.

The golden snake hissed at him and gave him a glare that seemed to reach his soul. It had probably used an ability on him, but nothing happened to his character…

Bap!

Bap!

Xia Shishu shot another two bolts at the snake as soon as his cooldowns ran out. Hitting the pinned snake wasn't much of a problem.

[Killed Treasure Snake, Unique Monster, level 8]

[Congratulations! You have leveled up.]

"Phewww!!" Xia Shishu was relieved that the snake had died after the second arrow. Considering that he was able to one-shot level six birds, the level eight snake must've had a lot of health.

"But a unique treasure snake, huh? They're quite generous with the EXP." Xia Shishu saw the prompt and walked up to the dead snake pinned on a low tree branch. It took him a whole lot of bird kills to level up once, but a unique monster kill had let him level up with ease.

Although the system has identified the snake as a dead monster, he still felt hesitant when pulling off the bolts from the snake. 'What if it suddenly came back to life and bit him? Now, that would be scary.' He thought.

He unpinned the snake, and it fell to the ground. Luckily, it didn't move a muscle like how a real-life snake would have after death, or else he would've been opposed to looting it.

Xia Shishu looted the snake and a prompt appeared in front of him, showing the items that he had gained from the treasure snake.

[Items: Treasure Choker, 10x Beginner Healing Potion]

Xia Shishu was happy that he had got a piece of equipment! After reading the equipment description, he wouldn't mind meeting a few more even though he hates snakes.

[Treasure Choker] (Unique Accessory)

Active skill: Strangle

Strangle Description: A 3-second stunning effect can be applied to a selected enemy whose strength stat is half of the user. To use, the user's eyes must meet with the enemy. Cooldown Requirement: Refreshes every 24 hours.

Seeing the effect of the choker, Xia Shishu felt like he had hit the jackpot. His system did not give him any Second Reality skills like other players, so gaining skill from a piece of equipment is great! Even though it's a choker, it's still great!
