The black rabbits in her previous life liked fruits, and when they were in season, they all rushed out to eat them. Strawberries, apples, and grapes were delicious, but pears were exceptional. Hanging from thin branches, the pears smelled sweet and were the best treat of all.

However, they grow on trees, and of course, the black rabbits can’t climb trees. Since that was the case, they always picked up the fruit that was too ripe that fell on the ground. But once everyone worked together, they were able to pick the fruit that grew on the tree.

One black rabbit would curl up its back, while another black rabbit would curl up its back on one, and another black rabbit would go up and curl its back, and so on until they create a rabbit tower. Finally, the lightest black rabbit sat on top and using its small paws and mouth, it managed to grab a pear.

One of those black rabbits was Ashley in her previous life. She was not strong and athletic and worked hard at the bottom. She endured the rickety fears and withstood the weight of its companions as she desperately visualized the sweetness of the pear.

The black rabbits flocked around the one pear that they had caught with their ears perked up. They pushed and shoved as they nibbled on the pear that emitted a sweet scent. From the corner, it can be seen that she was swimming around a large black lump.

It was the first time she had eaten a pear that wasn’t overripe. They shared the pear so they only had one bite, but the mellow sweetness made the black rabbit happy.

As she remembered that time, Ashley picked up the bowl of compote and scooped a spoonful into her mouth. The sweetness of the fresh pear filled her mouth.

‘This is the best! I’m glad that I’m a human in this lifetime.’

Let alone a bite, she is able to eat a lot of dishes. She felt so moved as she held the spoon in her hand and then,

“You may have this too.” She heard a voice say. She looked over and saw Clyde pushing his bowl to Ashley as he stifled a chuckle, “So you like pears as well as carrots.”

“I love them. Lord Clyde doesn’t eat them?”

“I don’t want any. I mean, rather, I’d prefer to see Ashley eating.”

What did he mean? She tilted her head.

“It’s been like this since the first time we ate together. I feel happy when I see you enjoy the food.” His green eyes curved gently at her.

Ashley felt her heart fill up.

“Your after-dinner coffee will be served in the parlor.” The maid said, smiling at the sight of the two of them getting along.

Clyde and Ashley moved to the parlor. The room was lit with orange light and was filled with a soft and peaceful atmosphere.

‘The color of coffee before the milk was added resembles the fur of a black rabbit.’ Ashley thought as she sat on the couch and poured plenty of milk in a cup of strong coffee. She was remembering the color of her old companion’s hair, and she was smiling, unknowingly.

“Why are you smiling?” Clyde asked.

“No, nothing.” She looked up and noticed Clyde was also smiling, with content.

“Why are you smiling, Lord Clyde?”

“Hmm? I’m just happy that Miss Ashley is in front of me right now and the fact that we’ll be together.”

She was at a loss for words as he smiled with that handsome face. Honestly, she was happy, but she felt her face getting hot. She quickly turned away and looked at the swaying black silhouette of the trees by the wind through the open window.

She hears Clyde say, “Would you like to see another beautiful view from the balcony again?”

“…no more, thank you.” Her heart wouldn’t be able to take it if he does that to her everyday.

However, the wind that makes the curtains flow in the room felt pleasant. Itching to go out, Ashley suggested, “Why don’t we stand beside each other watching the view on the balcony?”

“—I’d love to.”  Clyde sputtered out at Ashley who emphasized “standing beside each other.”

When they went out to the balcony, a cool breeze blew and Ashley’s fluffy hair tousled up. Clyde gently reached out for her and brought her in his arms. Ashley was surprised, but remained still. It was not because she didn’t mind. Or rather…

“Come to think of it, why were you wrapped in blankets all over that time?” Clyde’s calm voice sounded behind her ear.

“I just like doing that.”

“Is it because it reminds you of a rabbit’s burrow?”

“…Well, yes.”

She knew she had been seen right through. It was a strange thing, but instead of looking into the distance, Ashley looked back. She couldn’t fully turn though since he was hugging her from behind, “But I feel just as comfortable here.” she said with a smile. She meant it.

“I see.” Clyde smiled, he looked really happy. His arms around her tightened as he embraced her harder, but his touch was gentle.

She happily let herself lean into Clyde’s comfortable arms. It was such a huge difference from when she first came there. She’s glad to have come there and she’s glad to have gotten engaged to Clyde.

As she thought of that, Ashley looked up at the shining white moon.
