Chapter 75 Black-Eyed Butterfly Spirit Part 5

Translated by Snowfall77

We’ve met everywhere.  Oh, except for the ancestor’s tomb.  But let us count the places we’ve met.  I went out for a drink and met you.  I met you at an entrance examination.  I met you at the black market once.  Then I met you at the black market again when you tried to chase me down.  I saw you when I went to pick up my Danfeng clothes.  And now we’re being punished together by the same Master.

At this point, where the fuck haven’t we met?

Pushing it down, Xia Ge pasted on a false smile: “……huh, well, I have to admit you seem familiar to me too.”

Xia Ge thought to herself that she was very, very lucky that her upgraded {ghost and shadow} had included a ‘blurred memory’ function.  Otherwise, Bairen, now Huo Bai, wouldn’t be wondering where he’d seen her before.  No, he’d probably be trying to kill her.

“Mmm……maybe.”

Huo Bai fell silent again.

Though Xia Ge guessed that he still had his doubts.

“Huo Bai, come in.”

Goatee Master had calmed down, and felt that, when compared to rebellious Xia Ge who spent class drawing formations, Huo Bai, despite suspiciously reciting every material needed for ‘spring poison,’ was the more salvageable student.  So, ignoring Xia Ge, the Master beckoned Huo Bai back inside.

The hall door closed with a ‘snap.’

Xia Ge: “……”

Oh, that was great.  Did the Master really need to be obviously biased?

Gloomily holding onto her kettle, Xia Ge glanced down again at the puppet at her waist.

With its black eyes and slightly smiling vermilion lips in a pale face, topped with black hair, the puppet made the one looking at it feel better.

The system spoke up: [Are You Really Going To Let Him Go On Like This?]

Xia Ge: “……what do you mean……let him go on?”

System: [He’s A Spy.  You Know He’s A Spy.]

Xia Ge: “Ah, right.”

System: [……Are You Not Going To Do Anything About It?]

Xia Ge: “Of course I will……don’t want to miss such a good opportunity.”

System: [What Do You Intend To Do?]

Xia Ge: “Give me twenty sanitary napkins and I’ll tell you.”

System: [Oh, Shut The Fuck Up.]

The heat of the afternoon sun was only getting worse.  Eyeing a Wutong tree not far off, Xia Ge decided to stealthily go lean against it.

Although it was a little silly to be so vain, Xia Ge didn’t want to get a tan……

Who would’ve guessed that before she could even take a step, something cold suddenly came flying through the air.  Turning sideways, Xia Ge caught it in her hand.

It was silky cold to the touch and moist.  Xia Ge glanced down at her palm, finding that she was holding an icy cluster of purple grapes.

“Tsk-tsk, you look like you’re about to turn into a raisin.  Let me give you some hydration.”

The voice was coming from the direction of the tree.  Looking up while carefully holding the kettle steady with one hand and the grapes in the other, Xia Ge saw someone’s dangling leg.

Loose white pants were tucked into a riding boot, showing off a slender calf.  The owner of said leg swung her foot back and forth, adding lazily: “What?  You can’t stand the heat and want to goof off instead?”

Xia Ge: “……”

The corners of her mouth twitched: “You……”

“It’s alright if you want to be lazy.”

Voice indolent, Chu Yao lifted her leg up onto the branch she was sitting on, more grapes in her hand: “I can take you down the mountain to go play.  Want to go?”

Xia Ge answered righteously: “I can’t go.  I’m a good student.”

Chu Yao’s tone was quite disdainful: “A good student of Danfeng?  Where’s the meaning in that?”

Xia Ge decided to change the subject: “Why’ve you come to Danfeng?”

“Poaching talent,” Chu Yao replied, as if it were only natural.

Xia Ge: “……?”

Baring her canines with a malicious smile, Chu Yao continued: “The sooner you fail your exams here, the sooner you can become Jianfeng’s special disciple.”

Xia Ge: “……”

Hey, hey, even if you’re poaching talent, you shouldn’t say such spiteful, troublesome words right to the person’ face.  Do you think I’ll be moved?  Too laughable!  Who wants to be the idiot who fails all their exams?

Chu Yao: “We can go wherever you want.  You can drink whatever you like.  My treat.”

Xia Ge skillfully peeled a grape and bit into it with a ‘wuwu.’  “Actually, there’s a restaurant I’ve wanted to go to for a long time!”

System: [……]  You’re fucking afraid it’s too good to be true.

“But, if you want me to go with you, you have to talk to the Master,” Xia Ge stressed carefully, “You must tell him that you’re taking me away against my own volition!  That it’s got nothing to do with me, I’m innocent.”

The system coldly scoffed: [Such A White Lotus.]

Xia Ge: {fucking shut up.}

Eyes narrowing, Chu Yao considered the boy below who was demanding that she ‘take full responsibility.’  “Very well.”

Agilely jumping down from the tree, her clothes stylishly billowing, Chu Yao landed next to Xia Ge, not losing a single grape on the way.  Next handing the grapes to Xia Ge, Chu Yao took Xia Ge’s kettle in one hand, and, with a flip of her sleeve, walked directly towards the hall door.

The weight on her head taken away, Xia Ge sighed in relief before noticing the sword Chu Yao carried on her back.

……truly a Jianfeng disciple.  Carrying a sword everywhere they went.

Still, wasn’t it slightly aggressive attire for going out to play……?

Up at the closed hall door, Chu Yao contemplated it for a moment and then raised her foot.

“Hey——”

Chu Yao glanced back at Xia Ge.

Danfeng’s red and white clothes fit the young man well, his soft black hair tied back with a red ribbon.  At his waist hung an incongruous doll, and the expression in his black eyes was diffident as he made the motion to……knock?

Xia Ge spoke gently and cautiously: “Erm, please knock.”

Chu Yao: “ ……”
