Love Will Lead You Back

At Gu Residence, things were not good. Cheng Ze drinks every night while Mike and Madam Gu looked after the kids. It's been some days since the tragic death of Ji An but Cheng Ze still believed that his wife was somewhere in the sea. His denial that Ji An is gone was obvious for everyone. Madam Gu and Mike accepted the truth that she was gone forever. It was hard, but they have to move forward for Sofia and Zean sake.

Alice let her parents aware of what had happened and they were devastated, she also contacted Eric's solicitor to informed about his death. She made arrangements for her parents to go to Beijing as soon as possible and she did the same with his solicitor. The next thing is to respond to Cheng Ze's interview. She wouldn't dare to visit Sofia at Gu Residence even when she wanted to, she doesn't want to upset them anymore with her presence.

Cheng Ze's beard had grown and his eyes sunken with dark circles around it. He doesn't know where or how to start his life again without her. Half of his life was spent longing for her and after spending a little time with her, she was taken away from him forever. "Is this the price I have to pay?" He muttered as he cried alone with the company of alcohol in his hand. "You should have taken my life. Not her! I deserve to die. Not her!" He sobbed as he gulped down the whiskey in his hand.

Madam Gu wept at Cheng Ze's door as she heard his cries. Clutching her c.h.e.s.t tight, "Oh Cheng Ze, It hurts to lose Ji An like that. I can feel your pain. I failed to protect her as her mother."

Father Gu saw his wife at Cheng Ze's door as he looks for her, he approached her, hugged her and told her its not good to blame herself for what happened. That it wasn't her fault nor Cheng Ze. Grieving is for the one who is left behind but they have to move on for who is still alive. They must focus on the kids who lost their mother at such a young age.

The children were already in bed and sleeping unaware of what had happened to their mother when Madam and Father Gu checked on them, "My poor grandchildren." Madam Gu's tears kept on flowing racing down her cheeks, "They need her here, Sofia is still young, they need a mother." She wept all night and Father Gu comforted her until she eventually cried herself to sleep.

Mike came early to Gu Residence the following day to check on them, especially to check his niece and nephew. Only father Gu was awake when he arrived and father Gu suggested that he must talk to Cheng Ze as he was in such a mess. He also suggested that he should stay with them in the mansion so he doesn't have to travel every day to check on them. It would be better for everyone including him. Of course, it's not for the long term but for the meantime while things are tough, they need to support each other and be there for one another. 

Cheng Ze walked past them while they were talking and he was headed to the bar to get more alcohol. He walked and staggered seeming as if he was already drunk at those hours of the morning. Mike followed him and before Cheng Ze managed to grab another bottle of Blue Label, Mike called him, "Cheng Ze!"  He grabbed the bottle and looked where the voice came from. "What do you think you are doing?" Mike continued as he stood at the doorway, "Are you going to follow Ji An? Do you think she will appreciate it? How about your Zean and Sofia? Are you truly expecting us to look after them while you abandon them? You are their father for god sake! Your children come first! Get your act together will you."

Hearing those words from his brother in law, he smirked, "I am a husband too! Am I not allowed to grieve for my wife who died like that?" his brows knitted, "Your sister was taken from us by that-" he paused and felt his anger rising towards Eric followed by regret that overcomes his anger, "If only I just stayed that night and admitted to my sins." His tears started to fall on his cheeks as he remembered the past, "If I had not been a coward and faced her. Things could have ended differently. But I guess it's too late for all these." He sighed with regret, "She is not coming back to us, to me, to her children. Ultimately, I am to blame for all this. No one else. It was me who drove her to her death. I made her suffer, that's all I did to her." He let his body fall and sat on the floor and cried his heart out. 

Mike felt sorry for him, he walked to him, sat with him and rested his hands on Cheng Ze's shoulder, "Ji An was happy with you. She lived a happy life with you. Why do you think you ended up with two wonderful children." He tapped his shoulder repeatedly, "She always loved you Cheng Ze. I know she did since we were young. Seeing you like this, do you think she will like it? Do you think she will be happy?" He gently pulled Cheng Ze up and took him to sit on the stool before he went to get water for him.

"Here Cheng Ze, drink this instead of this bottle." Mike took the bottle of Cheng Ze. "Let's get you ready to face your kids and have breakfast as a family." He called a servant and asked to prepare Cheng Ze a cool bath to wake him up and sober him up. He also asked for his shaving kit to be prepared. Seems like there's three children he needs to look after.
