Mahou Project!!

Chapter 2 - 2: Magicka!!

The rank system here at Moonlight Academy determines a magus' standing in terms of magical prowess and strength. Standing above the pinnacle of the students are the top 10 of the academy. They are known as the Lunar 10 of Moonlight, the guardians off the academy, and thus are served as the protectors and are indeed destined for great things in the magical world of Kalas.

It is only natural that those rank down are below the food chain, thus treated with discrimination and hostility and served as prey in the eyes of the predators at the top. This strongly applies when you are the guy whose rank is at the very last.

So, in order to determine the ranks of the students, a duel between magi called Magicka is held. It is a fight to determine which magi is stronger and the winner gets the privilege to advance his student rank by a certain amount depending on his opponent. For example, if a rank 4,001 would defeat a rank 20, then the victor would advance by about 500 and the loser would suffer a demotion by the same number. But still, some factors like the way the magi fight, and his utilization of his magecraft are also considered. Although there are also other reasons why Magicka is being held. When one wants something from a certain magus or a way to settle disputes, then Magicka is the solution with the winner getting the thing he d.e.s.i.r.es from the loser. Magicka is usually held in the stadium of the school for it is also an event appreciated by the magi community. Usually, it is one of the Lunar 10 who is assigned to oversee the whole bout as required by their duties.

This time around, Magicka is going to be held between the girl with the legendary dragon blood, Anastasia Dragonheart and the infamous Academy's Weakest, Ken Mercer.

"Ah you came. I was worried that you would chicken out and called quits mongrel." The dragon girl said as she faced Ken in the Magicka grounds.

"Why should I? After all, all I see some is some spoiled princess that needs her a.s.s to be whoop down." The boy said with a playful smile.

Kael, the same teacher and the official magus who approved the match acted as the judge of the bout.

"Are both magus ready?"

The two nodded immediately.

"Very well... BEGIN!!"

At the cue of begin, Ana instantly conjured a large fireball, as gold as the molten sun and fired it at Ken. The boy who is unsurprisingly agile due to his thin and small figure easily dodge the burning attacks.

"Stay still!!" The girl yelled with frustration, continuing her barrage of dragon fireballs.

Unfortunately, one of the fireballs graze the boy, hitting him slightly in his left arm.

"Tsk, too hot, but now I kind of grasp its complexity and mechanism."

Ken then did the same attack, but not as potent as the one Ana was firing as to not yet rouse any suspicion regarding his unique magic.

"Heh, I guess you can fire a feeble fireball too, but strange, why does it seem that my attack looks like mine?" The dragon girl wondered as she analyzed at how unusually gold the fireball is.

A fire of a dragon is ten times more potent than the normal fire. As such, it is ten times more destructive and powerful, which is easily distinguished by its flames being gold like the sun itself.

Ken merely smirk, adjusting himself in the most appropriate position to launch the attack and said "Trade secret dragon girl."

Then the boy fired the fireball.

Ana smirk in arrogance, because of her dragon blood, she is immune to any forms of fire magic since it is the nature of the dragons itself and one of the qualities which made them feared in battle. So, the girl opted to stand still to show the mongrel how futile such attack it is for her.

However, when the attack landed on her left arm, it was not as what she was expected.

She felt pain.

The impact clearly damaged her, sporting obvious injuries and burnt marks as her eyes widen at this revelation.

"What?!! But how?" The girl asks in utter disbelief.

All forms of fire magic are immune to anyone with pure dragon blood. In fact, dragons practically breath fire and such element are a natural part of their system.

But there is an exception.

Dragon fire, the only flames capable of inflicting significant damage to a dragon.

Imagine her surprise when she felt the searing pain as the attack burnt her left arm.

Ken simply smiled and answered "Trade secret again."

This enraged the girl. How can such a mere commoner, a human of all, the proclaimed Academy's Weakest was able to wield the legendary flames itself. Only a Dragonheart, the true ancestors of the Dragon Race, with generations of cultivation in such magical art, they were able to replicate the lost art of the Draconic magic. They were the superior beings of Kalas, the legendary dragons and their magic was gifted by the Dragon God Aldous himself to the first head of the Dragonheart in order to help combat the demons during the War of the Exodus from way ages past.

In the stands above, Kael after declaring the commencement of the bout was seen talking with a silver haired girl with blue eyes who physically looks like a 10-year-old child but is actually older than what others perceive and is currently wearing a black sleeveless sailor uniform with a skirt.

Kael shook his head and said "Master, is it alright for him to show his abilities? I know you gave the order to permit it and finally allow him to reveal his unique magic, but won't the A.S.SOCIATION find out that the last wielder of such art still existed.

The child like girl faced Kael and smiled mischievously "Hah, those A.S.SOCIATION weaklings can try for all I care. Besides, he is still under the protection of the magus school organizations, and I bet he has some pent-up frustration that he needs to unleash for the last one year of his stay here."

"And besides, I would love to see some sort of action. I'm freaking bored for crying out oud!!" the girl added as she threw a childish tantrum.

"Of course, Master Ura."
