Marryin Off The Spinster

Chapter 3 - EXCUSES

After their short talk, Mikhael bid goodbye to the siblings.

"Well, see you soonest on my wedding day!" Right before he exits, "Please tell Auntie and Uncle my regards!"

Closing the door, Kendra was teased over again for being an old maid. Poor fella.

'Is it my fault? Just why won't these people leave me be?' She lamented inside and went back to her room again.

*At the Mall*

Although she hated the idea of going out with reasons aside from being in her comfort zone, it pains her to think what will people say about her appearance when this generation now is already cued up for cute fashion, beautiful, porcelain faces, and not to mention, not all people go after ugly ducklings like her. 'F*ck! Who cares about appearances? Shit, this is why social media's making people depress…and alone.' Kendra, who's trying to appease her insecurities when she saw lots of people inside the mall.

'Huh! If only I've got a time machine, I'll surely go and visit ancient China and be a secluded princess!' not to mention, you need lots of money to buy the things you want in this lifetime; you've got to work your a.s.s off just to earn money with many bills to pay. Whereas, if you're a secluded princess, you've got to have a servant, a courtyard, even if I get fat or ugly, no one will care, though there'll be less amount of money to be given, at the least, living in peace is way better. 'Kenny, you've read too many Chinese historical novels nowadays.' She face-palmed herself in her mind. 'Too many excuses.'

"Tsk." Kendra started.

Mamie looked at her, puzzled then said, "I know what you're thinking." Smiling, not looking at her as if she knew what's in her mind as of the moment. "The world is not that bad, Kenny. You just need to live it."

She stopped walking, facing Kendra, who just stayed silent. "Your prejudice of the world now will make you suffer more. Haven't you told me you've m.a.t.u.r.ed? Why is that you are beginning to drift again like you did way back in college?" That hits her. The truth is scary.

Martha continued, "Kenny, you're 28. We are. That makes us two." Holding her hand, "Don't mind those people. They've got nothing to do with you, even if they criticize you, ignore. Or even if they put pressure on you, ignore still. You're my sister, my friend forever. Even if you get old, cranky, and still unmarried, I will always be your friend. You have me."

Silence…

Sensing her friend on the verge of crying, knowing Kenny, she is tough yet so emotional, she added just to lighten the mood. "You just need to relax, you know. My money's going to be put to waste if you keep sulking in yourself."

Mamie laughed at her. "Let's enjoy our time together, BFF!" This friend of hers needs to be pulled out of her comfort zones most of the time. She'll die not able to see the beauty of the world. But too bad, if you're going to want her to move her lazy a.s.s, this woman is a hoarder! You've got to bribe her with conditions she'll benefit...and—viola! She'll try moving an inch or so.

While walking around the mall:

"I should have brought my phone with me."

"Nah, no need. You're phone's useless."

"Nope. It's useful."

"I'm not buying that," Martha smirked.

"What if someone kidnaps me?"

"It won't be possible."

"Why? You don't love me anymore? Oh, I hate choo." Play-pretending to be scornful, she looked at her best friend, walking beside her. "You just said a while ago that you have me." Pouting.

'Cute.' "Nah. You've got roots already." Raising her brows, grinning at her. Then she laughed. 'So easy to tease' she giggled inside her head.

Finally, they stopped at a nearby food stall. "I bet you're already hungry," Mamie stated.

"Yep. Buy me a burger." She said as she look around the surroundings. She went to the nearest empty table where people don't pass by often. After a while, Mamie, followed, carrying their orders.

"Here." Giving the burger Kendra ordered for herself. "I know you loved French Fries so I got the largest one." Putting the largest box of fries in front of her friend, with a glimmering look in her eyes, like she's seeing a character from the anime. Such a look is different when Kendra's given food she loves. She's so funny. Others might think she's gone crazy. But, too bad, it's only her who witnesses this side of hers.

Remembering something, Mamie took out her phone. "Smile best. Let's take a selfie."

*Snap, snap!*

"Thanks for the food!" Then Kenny, with one big bite, chewed the burger.

"Slow down." Martha reminded her. "You'll surely choke."

"And eat like a lady!" she was reprimanded again.

Kendra frowned. "Geez! You're one to talk."
