Chapter 9 - Peggy's Diary

*Peggy Diary Entry*

Dear Diary,

16th of September 1939

This was how that god awful date went,

-----------------5 Hours Earlier-----------------

*Peggy P.O.V*

"Peggy, we are here" chuckles my brother, "Don't screw this up or I would feel bad for the poor guy who is being held up in the infirmary." he continued much to my disappointment which earned him a scowl.

I was 5 minutes too early from our designated time but still, I went in, sat down at the reserved table, waiting for that annoying, good for nothing playboy who I recently found was the heir to one of the world's biggest enterprise. As I was waiting for him, I started flipping through the menu reminiscing how we met. The first time I heard the Dean introduce him, I thought that he was an Intern to the world-famous Doctor by the name of Bruce Wayne who held 2 Ph.D. but much to my surprise he was the person I admired. Tall, broad-shouldered, with a mop of dark hair, falling across a tanned-skinned face, much to everyone surprise as we all thought that he would barely see the sun, raven-colored eyes flashed through the haphazard strands. His jaw was firm and strong, and his nose long but slightly crooked, like it had been broken and left to its imperfections. There was an odd lightness about his eyes which gleamed behind square-framed glasses that kept slipping down his long nose, though, solemn brows that were offset by a boyish grin, as if there were something terribly funny only he knew the answer to, and it was that brief, wicked glance I caught that said maybe he wasn't fully who he said he was and he liked that. The hint of danger. It made me re-evaluate who was behind the mask of Bruce Wayne.

"My name is Bruce Wayne, but you can call me Bruce," he said with a voice overflowing with confidence and adventure which increased the mystery behind the man, who was supposedly giving us a lecture. Throughout his lecture his theoretical knowledge shocked me but his childish banter made me conclude that first which was highly likely is that I became too overly s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e, being with my brother, or secondly which is highly unlikely the fact that he was dangerous than anyone I met even the veteran soldiers but he was hiding it behind his mask playing anyone as if they lived on top of his palm, as he gave me a sense of uneasiness but due to his lack of being not aware of his surroundings and original jokes which seem like it transcended this century as he chose to annoy me, I felt like maybe that I am getting overly s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e.

Meeting him at Gloucester at Imjin Camp the week after was truly surprising as sense of uneasiness came back which caused me to frown but I soon found out that he was a guest of Lieutenant General, I guess due to his business having dealings with the military. But what surprised me the most was how Micheal and he clicked so well and if they were long lost friends forgetting about me, I do have to admit tho, I did get jealous of both of them, wasn't he supposed to chase me? and why is Micheal ignoring me and talking to him, didn't I come to visit him before he was shipped to the front lines. And then came that so-called Private defending our so-called heritage which led to spar in which I thought that he would learn a lesson and that being rich, funny and handsome doesn't get you anywhere in a fight or the frontlines. But much to everyone surprise he managed to take down that Private without breaking a sweat, which increased his mystery in my eyes, and poor guy he had to be dishonorably discharged before he even steps foot in the battlefield as he fought with a guest and humiliating loss against a foreign even breaking some bones which the General ignored, as in order to please the man.

In order to quench my thirst about his mystery, I decided to accept his date, that is where we are now, waiting till that ignorant dunderhead comes so I can slowly unveil and know the reason why I feel so attracted towards him, which I mainly believe is due to my sense of adventure of how I could join the puzzles and find out about the man behind the mask.

"Oi, surprise surprise, I didn't think that would make it, your majesty and early at that," Bruce said in a provocative tone as he sat down bringing me back to present.

"Can you please stop calling me that" I frowned.

"Sure thing, but what do I call you instead, except during the lecture you haven't introduced me," he said while calling for a waiter.

"As you already know, my name is Elizabeth Carter and you can call me Peggy just as you did at Imjin camp with my brother," I said trying to understand the profound mystery in his eyes as I accidentally stared at him.

"I'll call you Eli" he said while moving his head close to mine as he sits right across the table, "and if you do want to stare go right ahead," he said to which I reacted immediately moving back and slightly blushed to which he chuckles and says to the waiter, "Bring us the best you have, red wine not white."

"I'm wondering why you Ms. Carter, would be interested in me, I would prefer if you tell me the truth," he said as he looked at me profoundly.

"The truth Mr. Wayne, is that when I look into your eyes, I can see an ocean of mystery and sometimes I feel a hint of danger and uneasiness," I said confidently observing everything he did.

"You would make a good field agent Ms. Carter as you have talent, you know no one has ever told me that before, maybe because there was nothing or maybe because I wanted to hide it," he said chuckling as he swirled his wine glassed. Instantly withdrawing his aura and then I felt nothing, no danger, no uneasiness, it truly made me have goosebumps and hair stands straight as the man in front of me could vanish the moment I took my eyes of him but instantly he brought up a different aura, one of confidence and nobility.

"Who are you?" I said while on edge to which he chuckled and gave me an idiotic response, "Bruce Wayne, a humble business, and like you Ms. Carter who has a talent with perception, I too was born with it, let's just say it runs in the family." Bruce said as he took a sip of wine commenting on how well aged it was.

"If it truly does run in the family, why did you show it to me" I replied while taking a sip off my wine.

"It's simple really, I sensed that you have a sense of adventure and you would chase after me to get behind the so-called mystery I have and learn who I really am, as what you said, so who would refuse a chance for a beauty such as you to chase an humble man like myself" he said while smirking to which I frowned.

"So you did that, so you can me chase after you," I asked disappointed.

"Let's stop talking about this particular topic shall we, I would love to introduce myself again, My full name is Bruce D. Hagen Wayne and it's a p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e to meet...." as he continued it became less tense as he had a way with words due to his silver tongue but I was still on guard. When I asked him, how he knew martial arts he laughed it off saying he was trained by his butler who turned out to be Alfred Adams, retired MI5 operative and previous MI5 trainer, which kinda does explain it. And surprisingly, this was the first time a man excluding my brother said I would make a good field agent as paperwork wasn't really my style, which did surprise me and more we talked it was like he was one of the two people who could understand me much unlike Fred Wells, who my family was trying to marry me off to. But much to my dismiss, which was surprising as I rarely got gloomy, hearing that he would be moving out of the country did certainly annoy me as my brother would be moving into the front lines in awhile and the other had to leave the country for a good old while.
