Mercenaries In Apocalypse.

Humans have always been selfish beings, no matter how much someone claims to be not selfish, but being selfish itself has its pros and cons. The UN was also a council with a bunch of selfish people, Percy knew this and he also knew that the contingency plan prepared by them was flawed. It was made not with the propoganda of saving human race. The UN only wanted those people who could be useful. They never thought about those civilians and common people who had no idea about the apocalypse. This so called council of UN was nothing but bunch of selfish people who would do anything to preserve their dominance, the main reason why Percy was always irritated by them.

Percy was seated in the newly modified aircraft performing system checks. The aircraft was an Osprey based model, it had a newly developed prototype engine fitted with a cosmic generator as a power source capable of speed of a speed close to light at its peak. The aircraft was designed with an alloy of metals incorporated with cosmic energy. The hull of the aircraft can sustain heavy pressure and is designed to travel space, but due to its technological limitations it cannot sustain large distance travel but it can travel anywhere in the solar system if strained.

The propoganda of the travel was to test the aircraft and the survey of the moon base. As Percy completed the system checks, he sat on his seat and activated the in built life support systems. Since the gravity drive is not completed yet there will be no gravity on the ship.

"System check confirmed. Ready for space entry. Awaiting confirmation." A metallic voice reverberated in the room. It was a basic computer as Jarvis had tasks which required it's attention another computer had been installed.

"Seal the ports. Activate thrusters, take us to space, will ya. " Percy had a smile on his face his blood boiled. As any other hot blooded youth he too had a thirst for adventure. Even though there was no Jarvis, the computer was still connected to Jarvis and had a link with it.

"Activating space travel. Engine output stabilised at 10%. Leaving stratosphere..... Entering Ionosphere."

There was an amazing gforce on Percy's body but he withstood it. Finally the ship left Ionosphere and there came the weightlessness of space. Percy could see the beautiful space and earth from it.

"Space Entry confirmed." The computer voice broke his trance.

He took a deep breath and commanded, " Activate course plan I and start engine test".

"Confirmed."

The aircraft thrusters aligned itself to the direction of the moon and started it's journey. Since the engine output in space would be high as compared to earth, it had to be adjusted accordingly. Thus the computer had to run various tests for it. During the entire test run Percy was like a sandbag.

"Test run successful, suitable engine output at 5%."

"Dammit, after all that only 5%." Percy was frustrated. Even though the engine could travel quarter of light speed. It's parts could not handle the toll. The most it could work with is 50% even with all the enhanced parts, the ship was even worse due to the hull strength it could only work with 5% of the speed or else it would be destroyed and this is with the metal enhanced with cosmic energy. One must know that the metal was soaked in an amount of energy which could sustain a city for about a decade and still have much of it left for use. But still the speed was sufficient to reach moon in almost 1.2 hours give and take. With the ship moving so fast all Percy could see is fast moving space, so he chose to close his eyes and rest on his seat preparing mentally for the mission.

Approximately after 1.3 hours the computer beeped.

" Arriving destination, preparing to reduce speed. Brace yourself."

The ship reduced it's peed with a boom and Percy felt as if a small hammer hit his c.h.e.s.t.

As Percy looked at the screen, he could see the surface of moon full of craters. The craters were proof of the epic battle years ago. The moon base was situated at the dark side so the ship steadily moved towards it's destination. After few minutes Percy screen turned black and the ship reached it's destination. Since the previous mission were successful, the base layout was clear. Percy switched on the lights and greeted him the view of the base.
