MicroTech: Academy Of Idiots

Chapter 62 - Background

Background

Lui and the others became friends at an early age. In their previous lives, because most of their habits were same, they didn't study; instead they ventured inside and outside of the Sect.

But it could be dangerous since they weren't learned and skilled. As time passed, it became their insignia that they were the dullest students of the Sect.

They could remain like that because they had the support of the son of the Sect Master, so everything was fine as long as Lui remained leader of their gang.

All their other friends belonged to the Elders or the reputed magic Masters of the Sect.

Ni Chen was the nephew of the second Elder. Lippizan was the son of the Sentinel and Overseer of the Sect, that's why he was huge in stature and was expected to take the place of his father after he becomes a genius magician and Overseer. He would have been given the fifth key of the gates of the Sect, but it turned out that he would be giving his father a headache.

Xu Rue was the son of the Hall Overseer. He had been dull from his childhood, so his father had no expectations for him whatsoever.

Lie Mei was the dotted daughter of the third Elder. It turns out that she was pampered by her family of magicians. Hence, she also joined the gang ignoring the warnings of her mother. Her mother threatened to disown her if she kept at this behaviour, but the words only slipped from one ear to the other.

Rim was the son of the sixth Elder. He was quite sharp in his study still he chose to slack off because, in his opinion, his father always worked hard for the Sect and in return was not given more significant benefits. Rim thought to abandon the study and join the dull gang. He did not accept Lui as a friend that he genuinely cares about. It was only to hide behind the Sect Master's son.

Those two who left the academy were from the Sect population, and they had their own concerns all the time.

Min was an orphan adopted by the Sect Master, and he always followed Lui no matter what.

...

The oxygen mask was gathering mist which meant the oxygen cylinder was empty. There was no one in intensive care at the moment. Lui had been given some substantial doses of medicine, and he was in a deep slumber. The changeover shift of the doctors was yet to arrive to check all the running equipment, and the level of oxygen had reached its worst.

Someone lurked in the corridor, and he was able to deceive the security to get close to the intensive care -room number 1091. He was sneaking around in a way as to not get unwanted attention, while the hoodie he wore covered a side of his face to avoid being caught by surveillance cameras.

He placed his hand on the doorknob and turned it with care as he stealthily entered the room. He walked straight to the patient's bed. Before he could act on his plan, he noticed the mist from the oxygen tank. "Damn it!" he swore silently under his breath. It was as though fate was planning against him, even though he wasn't here to kill Lui, but it seemed he would be suspected and hanged for this crime too. He speedily took away the mask.

"Who are you and what are you doing here?" he heard a voice from behind and this can be the final blow, after all, he was taking away the mask, whoever saw him would consider him the enemy.

Gib looked in front of the machine, and there was an image of a man wearing a white coat. He heaved a sigh and threw back his hood.

"How irresponsible?" he turned to glare at the doctor.

"The oxygen tank is empty, do you want my friend to die a silent death?" he shouted, almost sounding upset.

Immediately the doctor heard. He ran to see the condition of the patient. This patient was meant to be looked after by specialists which meant that he had a strong backing and his people were influential enough. If anything were to happen to the patient, then the hospital and the staff would be held accountable for sure for this kind of negligence.

"Ah! You did a good job to remove the mask," the doctor spoke gratefully.

"If you don't want me to report about it, don't tell anyone I was here," Gib found a chance to remain unknown. Since the doctor had seen him, it means he could tell anyone he visited the patient. Hence, it was necessary to warn or ask a favour in return of favour.

"But why?" the doctor questioned immediately suspicious.

"My friend was angry with me before the accident. If he came to know that I was here, I fear he would get mad at me all over again, and I fear for his recovery," he created a false excuse.

"Oh! Sure I won't tell anyone, especially the patient," the doctor immediately agreed.

Why would he not agree? If he had told anyone about it, then they would ask him about the whole incident and how he acted or handled the situation. And if the boy reported his negligence, then he would be kicked out and stripped off of his medical license. So, it was a win for them.

Gib nodded and went out of the room, stealthily resuming his walk down the corridor and eventually out of the hospital. He barely saved himself. If he had happened to follow through with his plan instead of removing the mask, then he would have been caught red-handed.

The doctor checked all the equipment and the machines attached to the patient. After double-checking to make sure that the patient was in excellent condition after the slight almost fatal mishap, he started to write down his examination report.

Lui by chance had come out of his slumber as soon as Gib removed the mask. But upon recognizing the voice, he kept his eyes closed. He had heard the conversation between Gib and the doctor.

'Sometimes enemies are forced to do good' he thought to himself and decided to let it go for now.

But…

The question that kept Lui wondering was whether friends could be bad too if they were forced?

For now, two of his friends have left for their own good.

What about the others? Were they real friends or masked enemies posing as friends? Or friends in good times only? Only time and the circ.u.mstance will tell.
