Israel stood at the gate as he was waiting for Ava to arrive. He was surprised that he arrived before she did, but assumed it was because he was very excited and unconsciously increased his pace.

"Izzy!" he heard a cheerful voice from his side and turned to see Ava running towards him. She looked the exact same as she did in real life, so Israel realized that most likely every in this game looks the same both in real life and in the game.

She was wearing clothes that were similar to Israel, and they both had dagger strapped onto their waists. They wore plain clothes, that were easy to maneuver around in, and had black boots on that were of good quality. Their whole outfit was very similar, besides the fact that Ava's was made for females.

"Oh, you are an assassin too Izzy?! I knew we were just made for each other!" Ava cheered as she looked at his outfit.

"How can you tell? I didn't even get to pick a class." Israel asked.

"The game picks a class automatically that most suits the play style of the user. You and I both were chosen to be assassins! Isn't this going to be romantic, the two lone assassins who wander the world hand in hand fighting off all those who want to stop their love!" Ava began to get a bit off-topic.

Israel did not think that two assassins who killed people together was a very romantic topic, but he let her have her fantasies as he asked "Okay so tell me more about the game. I am new to this whole video game thing."

"Okay, so I will tell you the basics then," Ava said as she began to tell him the most basic things that everyone knows. You kill Pokemon for Items and exp, that kind of stuff.

"In most games, you can check your stats, but in this one, you can only see your level and class. Stats are hidden from users because in the real world there also is no way to determine stats." Ava continued.

"Items and skills, however, are a bit different. They do have stats sort of. There are different grades for items and skills, with items also having the possibility to possess abilities, as we do. So one item may increase speed and another may produce fire. Skills books also give you abilities that you can use in battle."

"Items also have hidden stats, and it is fair to say that each increase in the grade of an item also has an increase in stats, so a second-grade item is better than a first-grade item, unless the first-grade item has some amazing ability, but that probably won't happen." Ava finished

"Do these transfer over to the real world? The skill books?" Israel asked in excitement.

"No, I heard that only the rarest skill books can be transferred into the real world. When you level up in this game though, your hidden stats increase, and those transfer over." Ava said.

"Okay, enough explaining. I will learn as we go. Let's go start leveling up." Israel said as he walked out of the city gate past the guards.

Ava quickly followed behind him and nodded to the guards and glared at a few female ones before they finally left.

They arrived in a field a few minutes later that had players in it who were killing pokemon in order to level up. There were some who were mages, casting fireballs or using vines. There were warriors who had flaming blades and fast movements. There were other assassins who could produce smoke or priests who were healing others. There were also some people who didn't have gifts and were only able to use the skills that they had been given by the game.

You see not all people had gifts that were helpful for combat, so although they could be used in the game still, the players did not bother to try, because it will just fatigue them for no benefit. All abilities come with a cost, so using only to throw some sand, and do no damage is not the best idea for those players.

These players were still in the starting fields because like Ava and Israel, they had started late and needed to catch up to the other players.

A white light appeared next to them and a Pokemon spawned. It looked like a kernel and had a yellow body with black stripes on it and a little leaf coming out of the top of its head. Above it was a name in black letters that said:

[Sunkern: Level 1]

████████████

The Pokemon did not seem to be aggressive at all and just hopped about as it went about its day. Israel turned to Ava and said, "This is supposed to emulate the monsters in the wastelands?". Israel was skeptical because he had lived in the wastelands for six years, and he knew fearsome some of the monsters could be.

"These are the newbie grounds what do you expect! And there are some cute monsters in the wasteland! My parents even have a cute pet rabbit!" Ava said with a pout. "Let's hurry and level up, so we can get to the higher-level areas. Oh, I nearly forgot to send you a party and friend request." Ava said with a distraught look on her face.

Two windows popped up in Israel's field of view.

[Friend Request from WindChaser]

[Party Invite from WindChaser]

Israel accepted both of them as he asked "WindChaser?" questioning her name.

"Of course! Your last name is WindSorrow, and I am always going to follow after you, so I picked WindChaser! And since we both have Wind in our name we are matching! Like a couple!" Ava began to get excited.
