My Life In Blue Exorcist

Chapter 8 - Meisters

We finally got back from the Shopping Mall.

I part ways with the girls when we got onto the True Cross Academies Campus, but here's the question.

(Rin): "Where's the Dorm?"

In the Manga it was at the Old Boys Dormitory, but is that still the same here?

(Mephisto): "Hello young Okumura~. I seem to have forgotten to tell you of your Dormitory and Dorm Room."

And as always Mephisto appears out of nowhere and answers my questions. Hmm... Let's ask some more while we're at it.

(Rin): "Mephisto, do you mind if I can have a chat with you?"

(Mephisto): "Why of course not, but let's change the scenery a bit."

*snap*

Mephisto snaps his fingers and we're already at his office. Mad, it didn't feel like we moved and I didn't even get sick. His office is like how it was in the anime with paintings, flowers vases and various furniture everywhere.

(Mephisto): "Now what was it that you would like to talk about, Okumura-kun~."

Urgh, why did I get a shiver?

(Rin): "Well, I lack basic knowledge of Exorcism so I wanted you to tell me the basics of the basics."

I need to refresh my knowledge on Blue Exorcist and the order. I was up-to-date with the Manga, which was chapter 112, but I haven't re-read Blue Exorcist in a while. So I don't remember much of the beginning, with the chapter one and the first 2 episodes of the Anime as an exception since I noticed how different the Anime compared to the Manga so I rewatched and compared them.

(Mephisto): "Well that's different from having a chat, but fine. Let's start with Meisters. On your road of becoming an Exorcist there are multiple routes you can take . Acquiring the title of Meister is essentially the most basic qualification for becoming an Exorcist. There are five categories of Meister: Knight, Dragoon, Doctor, Tamer, and Aria. The difference between the categories is their style of fighting."

As Mephisto began to talk about the different Meisters, he pulled a drawing board from his top hat with the title 'Meisters' on it.

(Mephisto): "Let's start with the Knights. A Knight is a Meister who uses swords to fight Demons. Some Knights use enchanted Demon blades, which have unique abilities and are quite rare. Other Knights are able to use powerful, long-range techniques from their blades. Your Kurikara is in one of those categories."

He flipped the page and there was a stick figurine with a sword doing some kind of move and the other is doing a long range attack. Nice drawing.

I looked at my katana over my shoulder. Yeah I remember Rin aiming for the knight Meister since that was his main weapon. Wait isn't Kurikara in both the categories if you include my flames? If I remember Kurikara is a demon sword that has a good affinity to fire Demons, so it's already in the first category but with my flames I can potentially use long range attacks using my sword if I train enough.

(Mephisto): "Second is a Dragoon. A Dragoon is a Meister who fights using ranged weapons, such as handguns or machine guns. Some Dragoons may use specific weapons or ammunition to exploit the weaknesses of certain elemental demons.

He flips the page again and this time it's a stick figurine with a gun shooting blue bullets at a fire-like demon. So using a water bullet for a fire Demon. Interesting.

(Mephisto): "Third is a Doctor. A Doctor is a Meister who treats and heals the wounds inflicted by Demons, commonly known as mashou. These people typically possess the knowledge of basic first-aid, emergency first-aid, and the ability to treat ordinary injuries. Not many choose this Meister by itself and usually have it as a sub-meister."

He flips the page again to a tick figurine with a stethoscope treating a patient. One of the only non-combat classes but still very useful when against Demons with related to Astorath, king of Rot..

(Mephisto): "Fourth is a Tamer. A Tamer is a Meister who summons and controls Demons known as familiars. It is a natural talent that few people possess. However, Demons don't tend to follow anyone with a weaker then themselves and will betray their masters if they sense any fear. If that happens you simply break the circle used to summon the Demon."

He flipped the page again and it's a stick figurine with a dog-Demon. I look up to Midori and started thinking about how I tamed him.

(Mephisto): "And Finally is Aria. An Aria is a Meister who fights by reciting verses from the Bible and other Sacred Scriptures. Aria specialize in knowing Fatal Verses which, when recited, exorcise specific Demons. However not all Demons have a known Fatal verse. They also have other abilities like putting up a barrier with a chant or boost your allies abilities, although once you start the Demon will immediately try to disturb the Aria no matter the cost."

Finally he flipped to the last page where there's a group of stick figurines and one of them has a speech bubble with swirly lines in it, which I assume is meant to be Sacred Scriptures, whilst being protected by the Knights an other Meisters. Oh so these are what the five Meisters are.

(Rin): "So what were the Meisters of father and Yukio?"

(Mephisto): "Yukio has the Meisters: Dragoon and Doctor. Your Father as a Paladin, was required to have a Meister of all the five Meisters. Oh, a Paladin is the highest rank an Exorcist can have. There can only be one Paladin at a time and, typically, once an individual becomes a Paladin they keep that title until they are deceased."

Wait so your saying, Rin wanted to be a Paladin but he was only aiming for the knight meister instead of all of them. Am I missing something here?

(Rin): "Mephisto, what exactly is a Demon Aura?"

This question has been on my mind since my conversation with Midori. I don't remember anything like a Demon Aura in Blue Exorcist and I wonder if I can turn it off. After all, I want to enjoy my life and not be feared by my classmates.

(Mephisto): "Yes you should have been aware of it by now but you are constantly releasing a psuedo-Demon Aura. Usually the trigger of activating the Demon Aura is by going into battle but there are cases where new born Demons can't control it since their intelligence isn't high enough for them to turn it on or off."

That explains why I'm constantly releasing a demon aura. Wait, did you just call me an idiot?!

(Rin): "So how do I control it?"

(Mephisto): "I'll give you an instructor that specialises in Demon Aura and Demon Combat to help control your aura. It wouldn't be nice if you suddenly pressured one of the normal students."

Phew, that took a load off my plate.

(Mephisto): "Oh I suppose you also have to factor the possibility a Demon is scared or agitated, like one of those Goblins."

So it could be because I'm scared and maybe there's other reasons Mephisto isn't telling me, like stress or impending death.

(Mephisto): "Oh that reminds me, do you have any Meisters you are aiming for?"

A Meister, huh. Well to tell you the truth, I wanted to have two meisters, but now this conversation got me thinking.

(Rin): "I think I'll aim to have all five Meisters."

I mean I was gonna choose the Knight and Dragoon Meisters, but the incident with Midori and with what Mephisto said, it got me thinking. What exactly is the limit of this body of mine? How far can I go in this life?

(Mephisto): "Oh interesting. I assume you are aiming for the Paladin rank.

(Rin): "Hell no."

(Mephisto): "Huh?"

I'm not stupid enough to become a Paladin. Firstly, that's too much work. Plus I'm assuming the five Meisters are only the minimum conditions, meaning there's much more stuff to do to become a Paladin.

Secondly, I want to enjoy my life. Sure I have a lot on my plate but that's necessary to enjoy my life.

Thirdly, if I become a Paladin, I'll be enslaved as a weapon by the Order. I don't care who you are, but if you try to restrict me you better be prepared for the consequences. Thats how im deciding to live my life.

(Rin): "I'm just curious on what's my limit. I'm not gonna follow fathers path. Instead I'm gonna make my own."

(Mephisto): "I shouldn't have expected anything less from you. Well, anything else you would like to ask me, Okumura-kun?"

Hmm? Anything else...

(Rin): "I can't think of anything else at the moment but I do have a couple of favours I want to ask you to do?"

(Mephisto): "Oh~. And what will it be~?"

(Rin): "Since im aiming all five of the Meisters I want help from you. Firstly I want another Katana thats similar to my Kurikara. Second I want Dual pistols and be supplied bullets every month. Thirdly I want a place to practise using my flames without anybody interfering me."

This should be enough for now.

(Mephisto): "I'm glad to see you've put some thought into this. An area for you to practise your flames in secrecy won't be an issue, however there are some issues with your other requests. Firstly you don't have a gun license to use a gun so you'll be required to learn the ropes of how to use a gun before your allowed to carry one around. Once you get a license I can easily give you the appropriate amount of ammunition for you."

I'm happy to know I can have a free place to train my flames, but damn I didn't think I'd need a license, I guess that makes sense though. Afterall, regardless of if you want to be a Dragoon you need to earn the right to the gun. Not 'Oh here's a gun. Now good luck.'

(Mephisto): "And lastly about a new Katana. Usually a Knight is given a weapon once they pass the Knight test or are given one from their family as an heirloom. In your case you were given a Demon slaying sword by Father Fujimoto, but since its an old sword no one seen it for at least a century, there's no look alikes to kurikara. So for this one you'll be required to go and meet with a Blacksmith and they'll be required to look at kurikara and make one after taking the measurements. I'll be sure to tell them about your little secret and make them keep quiet about it."

Huh? Blacksmiths still exist? Man looks like its gonna take a while for me to get a look a like sword of Kurikara but I guess it's all good as long as I get it before the exam to promote to exwire.

Oh that reminds me.

(Rin): "Sorry a few more things; Is it possible for you to get me a sword instructor? Ideally one that's aware of my flames so they can help me train both sword techniques and my abilities."

It would be easier to deal with an instructor that knows my secret, then an instructor who doesn't, plus he could help me with controlling my flames or maybe any flame techniques.

(Rin): "And secondly, well, I need living expenses."

I'm broke. I only had a few 100 yen coins on me. Luckily today I got Paku to buy me a meal but I'll feel bad if I keep on doing it, plus I want to return the favour for how much fun today was.

(Mephisto): "Oh those can be sorted out easily. Should I also make the sword instructor a babe?"

(Rin): "I don't mind as long as they're willing to help me."

(Mephisto): "About the money, here, take this."

Mephisto throws me a note like how a Ninja throws a kunai. Hey! You nearly hit my face again! And how did you throw it like that?

(Rin): "2000 yen?"

(Mephisto): "Yes, that should be enough for the month."

Are you bullshitting me? 2000 yen is like £15 if I use my money sparingly that's enough for about a week and a bit, not a month.

(Rin): "Mephisto, how about you make a gamble with?"

(Mephisto): "Oh, let's hear it out."

Chance. If I play my cards right I might be able to earn big.

(Rin): "The games simple. First you invest 30,000 yen. If I can make quadruple that amount in a month I get to run any business I want in true cross academy free of charge."

(Mephisto): "Oh and if you lose?"

(Rin): "If I lose I'll give back the money I either made or spent back to you. If I haven't made any money within that one month than you can take it out of money living expense and I'll even work directly to you once I become an Exorcist."

I'm literally going all or nothing. If it works I make a lot of money. If not I lose my freedom.

(Mephisto): "Sounds interesting enough. Fine I agree to your little gamble."

(Rin): "Sounds good to me. Oh I'll be requiring one of the Home Economics rooms, though."

(Mephisto): "Fine, I'll make the appropriate arrangements for that to happen."

This went surprisingly well. I was expecting Mephisto to either flat out reject me or give me a mission to get what I want. Oh well, if I got them I shouldn't worry about why Mephisto agreed to it.
