My New Isekai!

Chapter 10 - A Quest for These Teens!

We immediately started walking towards the city of beginners. The city itself was peaceful, but the labor workers...they scare me!

"Hey Haru," said Kura trying to get my attention.

"Yes?"

"I've not been to the city very much." She said, "So because of that, I don't know where to find quests at."

I facepalmed immediately after hearing that.

"What...!?" She said, looking as if she was extremely embarrassed.

"It's nothing, let's go on a good quest when we get there. Okay?"

"Yes sir!" She stated.

My face scrunched up in a cringe, "Please, don't say that...ever."

"Oh...okay," She said.

We kept walking for an hour and a half before we reached the main entrance. It was almost pitch black out.

"It feels like it took forever!" I said yawning.

She nodded, "Let's go in and get a quest!"

"You're crazy, aren't you?" I asked her.

"Going on a quest is crazy?"

Yeah, I knew it. This girl is insane.

"Let's sleep first! It's basically pitch black out. After we get a good nights rest we can go on a quest."

"Fine..." She said sadly.

We stayed in an inn. Once morning came, we headed to the quest board. Kura found one that she liked.

"Haru, Haru!"

"Yes? What'd you find?"

"It's a good quest if I say so myself!" She said, lifting the quest paper in front of my face.

I yanked it out of her hand and started reading it aloud, "There is a General of the Demon Lord's army near the capital. Need adventurers to come and help defend against them. Reward: 10,000 Eris."

"Wow, this does sound like a great quest - is that what you thought I was gonna say? You realize it says 'general' right?"

"Yes. All we have to do is defeat or just defend the capital and we get a reward."

"Oh my god," I exclaimed. "Look, you realize we could both die?!"

"Adventurer's are expected to die at any moment in time. It's not uncommon to see an adventurer dead."

I stared at her, "Okay, you might not know this, but I don't want to die, and if we both died Kazuma is going to come kill me through the afterlife!" I yelled aloud.

She looked as if she wasn't going to give up this fight, "Still, it might fun, y'know?"

"I can see how you think it might be fun. I don't...!" At this point, it was irritating me, so out of the blue I said, "You know what, fine."

She jumped in glee, "My first real quest is even in the capital!"

"Yeah yeah," sarcasm was seeping through those two words.

She stared at me blankly. I stared back at her the same way, maybe even more aggressive.

Kura broke the staring, "Shall we accept this quest and head to the capital?"

"Yeah," I responded.

We did just that, reserved a seat in a wagon. The only downside about that is the fact that it cost Eris.

Anyways, the wagon left shortly in the morning. It should take us a few nights to make it to the capital. At first, I thought it would've been a nice trip, but soon came to my senses.

We were talking about all sorts of stuff while on waiting. We learned a lot about each other.

"Thank you, Haru," Kura suddenly blurted out.

"Oh, for what?"

"Becoming my friend, bringing me on a quest, talking to me," she said.

"Yeah, of course I'd talk to you," I said. "You're pretty fun to hang out with."

Kura looked surprised, "But everyone I met before always said they didn't want to become my friend."

I felt sad for her. As a result, I gave her an awkward hug, "I'm sorry, but I want to be your friend." I paused for a bit, "Will you let me?"

"Yes! My first friend? I would never pass that up." Kura said, excited and happy.

"Thank you," I said.

Kura looked behind me, "Hey, Haru."

"Yeah?"

"Look behind you."

I followed her command, and there it was. The capital. We're finally going to be able to do this quest!
