My Swarm Academia: Call Of The Void

Chapter 36 - Infiltration?

A siren blared as an announcement came out through the speakers.

"Security Level 3 has been breached. All students promptly evacuate. Security Level 3 has been breached. All students promptly…"

"Well, never a boring day at UA, right? First day had the expulsion threat, yesterday had me, and now a security breach," Kai said, not even moving from his seat. The cafeteria had some really good mabo dofu. A solid kick, but not too spicy.

"I wonder what it is?" Ayako asked, calmly watching the other students rushing to leave in a panic. Apparently, this was the first time in years that something like this had happened.

"… Shouldn't we be evacuating, too?" Shinso asked. With the announcement, he had stood up, but seeing Ayako and Kai sit still like nothing was wrong, he couldn't just leave them.

"Where would we evacuate to?" Kai asked. "I don't remember even being told where we are supposed to go. Without knowing anything about what is really happening or where, here is as safe as anywhere else, and I have food here." He resumed his meal.

"… has been breached. All students…"

"SHUT UP!!" Kai and Ayako said in unison at the nearest intercom.

"Sit down and eat, Shinso-kun," Ayako said. "He does have a point. Look around, the only crazy thing that is happening here is people trying to leave. It's safe here. And, we have him," she finished, pointing her thumb at Kai beside herself.

"Thanks. Am I the army, or the Hulk? Shinso, please, sit down and get back to the important stuff. Did you have a good Hero name picked? I'd happily help you with that. How about the Negotiator?"

"Why'd you make that voice? You are trying to be funny right now aren't you?" Ayako said. The name was fine, and he clearly wasn't making fun of Shinso, but Kai had a grin that said that there was a joke she didn't get.

"General Grievous. I guess your English isn't good enough to remember that. It works doesn't it? Resolving crises with a single word, the man who can deescalate any villain, the Negotiator! What do you think, Shinso?"

It was a long moment before Shinso sat back down. He looked at the panicked crowd that was trying to slowly escape through the halls, and back to the pair of unconcerned faces, and felt that it at least wouldn't hurt to avoid getting caught in the crowd.

Eventually, it was dispersed by Iida, who was able to see that the root of the problem was simply the press, not an attack. While everyone was going back to their break, only Kai's small group sat amused by everything.

"See? Nothing wrong! It's weird that they were able to get in, but nothing's wrong today," Kai said. Though he seemed unconcerned, there actually was something to worry about. He had one changeling out on campus, and as the chaos around the cafeteria unfolded, he had sent it to check out the front door. It wasn't just wide open; it had crumbled into dust.

This was not the action of a reporter. No matter how overeager they were, no reporter would risk arrest to break in. Of course, they were evidently happy to take advantage of someone else's work. Besides, this kind of destruction was too powerful and distinct to not get traced to them.

This was something rather sinister. Unfortunately, Kai had nothing to go on. There was no way for him to know who did it. Even if he tried to get a Zergling to do some sniffing, it wouldn't be safe for it to wander around. Without any more information, he would have to track down every single scent. It would take too long and draw too much attention.

In the end, it would be a futile effort.

Hopefully, this could be left to the teachers. Hopefully it wasn't….

Kai felt like it was still going to bite back eventually, but there wasn't anything he could do right now. Neutral jin was a valid move. Or maybe this was a different one…. What were the rest of the 85? He could only remember 33…

Well, all things that could be figured out later. Or just didn't matter, no matter how interesting it was. Technically he had a lot of man-hours (or rather, changeling-hours) to spare, but not every interesting thing mattered.

Besides, they had been rather busy lately. Espionage, research, design, cooking….

Lunch soon neared its end. The students all broke off and returned to their classrooms. The classes afterwards passed without incident. At the end of the day, Aizawa came back to close out the day. In the end, Midoriya passed his duties as class president to Iida for his efforts in dispersing the panicked mob. Or rather, realizing that he would have to… talk with people, the way Kai saw it.

Well, he gave up a pointless title to someone who loves pointless titles. Win-win.

Just when everyone was getting ready to leave, Kai raised his hand.

"Sensei! If you don't mind, I have a couple of little announcements." Aizawa gestured for him to stand and say his piece. "Thank you. So, I have two cards here, from people that have already made requests. From them, I can see that you don't think I'm serious. Well, tomorrow, I guess I'm singing and dancing while dressed as a magical girl and giving you all treats. Need some time for choreography and such. Exciting, but you could have done more than just combine everything I said before into one." Kai shook his head with mild disappointment. "And Mineta wants a date with Midnight-sensei. Not likely, but I'll help you do what is possible. I think you have a shot. You are both perverts, after all."

Half of the class was just staring at Kai, unsure of how serious to take this. The other half was looking at Mineta wondering how crazy he was.

"Anyways, here is the important thing. I'm going to be running a combat juku every day after school. It is optional, but I would highly recommend it. The only one who has no say is Midoriya," he said, pointing to the back.

"M-me? Why?"

"For obvious reasons. After talking with Yagi-san and Principal Nezu yesterday, it was decided that you needed some help getting control over your Quirk. We can't just let you explode every other day, now can we? Don't worry, I will be working with you on developing a special training program just for you, because Yagi-san insisted. Call him, he knows. In fact," Kai said gesturing to everyone, "I would like to do the same for every single one of you. You have powers that you don't even know about, because frankly, you haven't had the right teachers."

"Yeah, right," Bakugo said. "I think that we would know our own powers. You think too much of yourself."

"Right. So, tell me, do you know everything your Quirk does?"

"Of course! Come over here, and I'll show you in great detail!" Bakugo said aggressively.

"Very nice use of a veiled threat Bakago, but tell me, how much force is required to vaporize a hallway, a human body, and break through a wall made of reinforced concrete?"

"What?"

"More than enough to throw you backwards through a wall yourself, yet you didn't move when you used your gauntlet yesterday. Why?

"There are many things that you need to think about with your Quirks, people. Why can Mineta wear gloves and use his Quirk? Why can't you see sweat on Hagakure's forehead, or food as she chews? How long can Sero's tape stretch? What comes out of Ashido's hands- a base, acid or something else?"

"The answers to these questions will allow you to increase your options. I understand if you don't want to work on it with me but think about it. You can let Midoriya be the guinea pig. See what happens with him, and then join me. Midoriya, I'll see you at the PE grounds. Dress appropriately."
