My World Now

Chapter 7 - Memories Lost

Once I finish my meal I head back to the village. On the way back I clean up at a stream and think on what Wizzal told me the night before.

"This world follows the female line. The saying goes, "Women don't lie." It's not that they can't lie. It's that you know who the Mother or Originator is cause she gives birth. The male may say that is my kid but where is the proof.

Men move into a women's home so in order to strengthen the house you need women. Men run the government at times and such but women hold the power and home. The women give birth in the Bringer caves and men are not allowed in them.

So children are sometimes abandoned in those caves cause a family has to many males. That said a women who has a still born can sometimes find an abandoned baby and no one will know. A family is only allowed to have five kids unless special premisson has been granted. So females are sometimes traded for high prices and status at birth to strengthen a family.

Same can be said for a male. If you need a stronger bloodline get a male to breed into your family. What's more if you have to many males and need a female give it or trade it to another family. You can say it died and have another chance to get a female.

Iota says he has five brothers and two sisters. That means Marda his Originator got granted the right to have extra kids." I shake my head to bring myself back to the present.

The sound of buzzing can be heard in the bushes. The sky is black with a few stars peaking out from behind the dark clouds. As I leave the forest I change my shape back into a Florensin. The dress grows back out and by the time I pass the first house the skirt has turned blue and the first rain drops fall from the sky.

I enter Wizzal's tower just as the sky opens up and pass him as he is working at his desk. After pawing through a trunk for awhile I pull out a red cloth and head to a wall where I see some strong looking hooks. As I pass him he says, "I need some of your scales." I grow out my tail and flick it at him. Two spikes shoot from the tip just missing him and lodge in the wall. He looks up and says, "that's not what I meant but it will do,"

He reaches up and takes one of the spikes from the wall. My tail vanishes as I chuckle and hang one side of the blanket on the hook and the other onto the banister. Jumping in I settle down for the night. As I drift off to sleep I can hear the rain come down and I think about the world I came from and how I remember almost nothing before the car accident. I know where I'd worked, lived and why, but no faces or anything about anyone comes to mind before the car accident. I fall off to sleep with one of the few memories I have playing in my head.

...

I am in a nursing home after the car crash and it is my birthday. Snow can be seen falling out the window covering the hill that leads to the woods. My sister has brought my father to visit. We sit out in the wings common area. Daddy is drugged pretty heavy so he can make the trip with minimal pain.

They have brought loaded Yanni's House of Pizza, our favorite, a small single size cake, ice cream and Coca-Colas. We laugh and I wish her a happy birthday sense hers is in four days. I can't even eat half a piece of pizza because of the medicine I am taking. Let alone the cake and ice cream. They have brought my dog with them Morningstar she is a beagle colored dog with the head and ears more like a pitbull and the shape of an Australian cattle dog. A mutt through and through.

...

I fall asleep to our happy smiles as one more memory vanishes.

When I wake up the rain is still falling, and I feel sad like one more thing is lost a small tear in my eye. I think over what was left of the memory, a smile, a laugh and no faces to put with it. I sit up and put my arms behind my head.

What does it really matter the more of those memories lost the faster and more powerful I'm here. They use to make me who I am, but not anymore. I suppose the most important memory I have is my dream to never work for another person again. I'll never have that farm but that was an ends to a means. Now I have accomplished that dream or had it fall in my l.a.p so what does it matter. If I get them back I'll worry about it then.

I get up and put it out of my mind. Stretch and go over to Wizzal at his desk. He hears me coming and spins around smiling. He says, "I've done it again." He passes me a pair of shoes looking proud of himself. He says, "if I'm correct these will change with you. I'm also working on that bag of yours. It should be done in about a week. A lot to do. I'll need a few more samples in awhile to make this work."

I take the shoes and put them on. I change my feet to my normal clawed feet. The bottom of the shoes split as my feet change and try to hug the top of my feet like a cuff. My claws can be seen and the bottoms so I can get traction. They are a little loose, and he mutters, "Needs a little more work." I look back at him as my feet change back and the shoes wrap back around my feet. "You are a very useful guy. You may be right. You may be to smart to kill," I say as I walk over to the bookshelves.

I reach out and pull a book out from the top, open it and pretend to read as I say, "I have a challenge for you." He stops what he is doing spins around and I can see his eyes light up as he says, "yes?" I turn a page and say, "once the bag is done. How about a house bag? With a field, house, forest, even a heated outdoor pool, hot spring or pond it's all the same idea to me, all in one bag. Can you do it? Also so it will only work for one person?"

He looks thoughtful then excited. He turns his back muttering to himself. So he misses my evil smile. I turn back to the bookcase and look over the books. Looking for some useful information about this new world I'm living in, and making a plan for the future. I really do think to much.
