New Emperor Of Ghouls

Chapter 48 - 48: Underground Cavern

"Ugh." Zhong Yi released a groan of frustration.

A week had passed and Zhong Yi was already beginning to realise why his father tried his best to provide department leaders with some form of autonomy. It meant less work to do himself and more for everyone else.

Before all the much-needed changes, he had zero paperwork. He could spend all day with his little girl and he wouldn't be bothered by anyone unless it was important. He could cultivate at any time because he didn't have anything to do.

Now he had to sit inside this temporary study with parchments all over his table. However, he wasn't groaning from frustration at the amount he had to, he barely had any. But, in the future, when their population reaches the millions.

The Sacred Ghoul Emperor shuddered at the thought. .

Stifling a yawn, he stood up from the super comfortable armchair and walked over to the window next to his desk.

When he looked outside the window, he could see the massive space is being cleared in the middle of the village and buildings being knocked down. They now had a plan for the village and its old layout conflicted with some of the roads and specific purpose buildings.

They had cleared a large space in the middle of the village, where the palace would be built. Enough space was cleared for a large palace suited for royals to be built. This also meat a lot of buildings were knocked down and moved.

The plan was to build around the special structures and incorporate them or just leave them to themselves. For example, the heavens prayer platform would be left by itself because its structure would upgrade with the village. Whereas, the origin would have a temple made of marble built around it.

Because of the lack of population, the speed of construction was very slow. Just the Sacred ghoul village could take a month to finish and you have to factor in the plentiful amount of ghouls coming from other villages, meaning 2 or more months.

There had been numerous thoughts on how to tackle that problem and one came up very frequently. Make the Goblins do the work.

The Sacred Ghoul emperor was hesitant to make it happen a couple of reasons. One being no matter how much he tries to think about it, he couldn't help but see it as enslaving them.

Even though in his first life as a royal prince he had seen slavery before and made sure such practises was nowhere near the empire, and any he did find was punished severely and all their assets seized.

Now here he was, contemplating whether to have it implemented or not in the new empire.

The other option was to make them work for a better life and have them enter the empire. But, not just him, others would not like that and it could have serious repercussions later on.

There were unspoken requirements a race needs to enter the Sacred Ghoul Empire and the Goblins had failed to meet those standards. Especially, the fact those savages "kidnapped" the princess didn't help their case either.

Other than the Sacred Ghoul Village, the 4 satellite villages and the towns. Every other village had a skeleton crew of 10 Ghoul soldiers meant to escort the summoned ghouls to any of those 8 places to be registered and put into work.

The 1000 Linthos patrolling the territory had found several Goblin camps and scavengers. Several of the leaders were taken and interrogated for several important pieces of information.

Their suspicions were confirmed when a few hard-headed said that they would be rescued by their king. Zhong Yi had those ones go through rigorous questioning and was told that the location of the teleportation portal was underground.

He had been anticipating today. He would've done this at an earlier date if he did not have other duties that required his immediate attention.

"Just this way, your majesty." Hong Shen led The Sacred Ghoul Emperor towards a massive cave entrance. At the mouth of the cave, numerous Hong tribesmen were waiting outside of it.

Despite the relaxed aura they projected, he could see how their ears were perked up waiting for any kind of sound; How their muscles were tensed waiting to pounce on any enemy.

"Well done, Hong Shen. Your father told me you trained these men yourself." The approval in his tone was not missed by Chieftain Hong's son or the surrounding Hong tribe member.

"I was lucky to teach them, your majesty." Hong Shen's failed attempts at being humble drew laughs from the listening Linthos.

The male Ghoul saw how the Hong tribesmen puffed out their furry c.h.e.s.t with pride at their leader's words.

"I look forward to seeing how they perform here." This mission is an important one. This would be an end to any other outside influence within this region. Everyone would be able to move more freely within the territory without fear of being attacked by magic beasts or Goblins.

With Zhong Yi at the lead, they walked into the darkness of the cave.

He had them wait a few minutes to adjust their sight to darkness before they walked on. Even with the reduced visibility, Every Lintho strutted as if they could see perfectly.

They reached a large cavern lit up by blue light coming from mushroom-looking plants growing from the walls. Glowing insects danced around the air. A stream of water flowed from a hole in the wall next to the entrance of the cavern and from the sound of water splashing against a larger body of water, there was a waterfall close by. Blades of purple grass decorated the ground

He heard gasps behind him and couldn't fault them either.

This place was beautiful and he wished he could admire the sight more, but the guttural sound of goblin speech coming from a tunnel further down the cavern was more important right now.

'Zhong Mei will love this place.' He thought as the sound of more Goblins echoed out from more tunnels in the cavern.
