Nikita

Chapter 30 - My Brother's Dead

Kyle took one more look at his boss before looking at the information he had retrieved from the video Nikita had sent him. There was a lot he needed to tell him, but the question was just whether Mykolajki Pavlenko was ready to hear what he was going to say to him.

He wanted to know what the odds were that Nikita would stay put and not break things in Qiao's house, but that was just his wishful thinking. Anyway, he looked at his papers before relaying his findings to the man who looked so lost. If only he could make it all better.

If only.

"The video you sent me wasn't tampered with. The footage is real. All of it. It's almost like someone wants you to know every single detail of what happened," Kyle began, making Nikita squint his eyes like he didn't believe what the boy had said.

Why would someone want to have everything that happened during that time? Why would anyone want him to have the footage of the most remarkable vaccine that hadn't even been found for its rightful owner?

If ever the owner was even still alive. Why would anyone want to show him that it was evidence of how helpless he was? Was it evidence of how Nikita could do nothing to save his family other than blaming himself for not being there to protect them?

There were so many questions, and hopefully, Kyle would answer them. Hopefully, when this call was over, there would be reasonable answers for him to rely on because, at this rate, Nikita was going to make people bleed even if he didn't want to.

"Is it real?" Nikita asked like he didn't want to believe it, but the information was already there before him. Whatever he chose to do with it was all on him.

"Yeah. I ran it through my software, and it's completely authentic and original." Kyle said to his confused boss. He was already overthinking again. Damn, if Kyle could help him out, then he was ready and willing to do it.

He would cross the fuċkɨnġ seven seas to get to him, but then they were in the same country, so all they could do was just take a plane to Todorov, but still, that didn't make all of this any easier.

"Well, at least they did not tamper with it,'' Nikita said defeatedly. What was he even supposed to say to that finding? It wasn't like he was about to go back in time and tell his parents to be careful of the people around them anyway.

Nikita had learned the hard way not to trust anyone, not even his closest circle. He did trust them, but not entirely that he would let them handle him when he felt low. Of course, that was unfair for the people who care about him, but what could they do anyway?

"The vials in the video, I think I've heard of them on the dark web. Someone has been selling a limited edition virus that could cure cancer. Well, at least that is what they say.

However, they have also been clear that the virus can be used to control so many things, like have the country under control." Kyle said, making Nikita realize just how much danger the nation was in.

If the viruses were already sold on the web, then it meant that there was a group of thirty people or less that had the virus that could bring the world to its knees. This is not what he had expected t hear, but seriously, what the fuċk was wrong with people?

Nikita knew he couldn't control the outcome of this, but somehow he was hoping that you could tell him that he knew at least one of the bearers of the virus, because frankly, Nikita wanted a vile for his brother, who he didn't even know the location of yet.

However, that didn't matter. If Yuri were alive, he would find him and bring him back home. He just had to be having something that could make his brother's life better before going after his brother. He needed to have something to show.

He needed to be able to convince Yuri that he didn't have less than ten years to live. He had to find something that would make Yuri believe in life again. His brother had suffered enough for a lifetime, and he wasn't going to let him suffer again.

"What?"

"Yeah, I know how absurd it sounds. Which makes me want to ask, what is wrong with Yuri?" Kyle asked after a while. He knew it wasn't right to ask, but if the Rostova legion were going to be efficient, then they had to know what they were looking for and how urgent it was.

No parent would create a virus for their son unless they were sick and really needed the virus. Kyle was hoping Nikita would tell him what was wrong with his brother, but would Nikita tell him?

"What?" Nikita asked Kyle, totally unsure of what the man was asking him about, but not because he didn't know. He asked because he hadn't been listening to Kyle.

Nikita was stuck in his mind and with the possibility of the virus being in the wrong hands and, even worse, the virus being in use when his brother didn't get any. The thing about this virus was that it was potent and explicitly made for Yuri.

Nikita desperately needed to get a hold of one of the vials because if he didn't, he would literally go crazy from thinking of ways to save his brother. He couldn't lose the only family he had left, and he just couldn't.

"Yuri, what's wrong with him? Kyle asked again, this time looking into Nikita's eyes, daring him to lie. But of course, he knew it wouldn't affect Nikita, considering Nikita was his boss and savior anyway.

He could only try to coerce his boss into telling him, and if Nikita didn't want to open up about his brother, there was nothing really that Kyle would do about it. He would just have to be a good employee and be useful whenever Nikita called but was he ever going to be fair to Nikita?

He was already hurting and haunted by a truth he couldn't get himself to tell out loud. But would he tell Kyle? Would he admit openly that he thought his brother was alive, and that was why he wanted the boy to look into the available vials in the market?

"My brother's dead," Nikita responded with a tone that left no room for arguments or questions.. He didn't want to talk about his brother, and he wanted to talk about the virus in the market. He wanted to talk about saving more people, but was that really the reason he was desperate for the vials?
