One Piece: The Power System

Over the course of time, Dragon and his wife disappeared. Garp was then left to take care of both of them. Well, to be exact, Makino was the one taking care of Rein and Luffy. Makino was a bartender in the Foosha village. She usually wore a bandana over her head and was a very nice person. At this time, four years had already passed, so both Luffy and Rein were 4-year-olds.

"Haha, come on Luffy, you'll have to do better than that in order to catch me!" At this time, both Luffy and Rein are playing "tag." They often played this game and Luffy could never catch Rein no matter what he did.

"Aw, Rein, you're too fast but I still won't give up!" Luffy looked determined to catch Rein but was too slow! Luffy's determined expression looked quite cute but Rein laughed it off and ditched Luffy quickly. After some time, they stopped playing tag, Luffy was getting nowhere and fast at that.

"You'll have to work on your speed, you're too slow, haha!" Rein laughed and patted Luffy's back to cheer him up.

"I'll get faster no matter what, just you watch and see." Luffy smiled and said. "I'll capture you next time for sure, hehe!" Rein nodded but said nothing, Luffy always said the same thing but never was able to capture him, so he didn't bother to think about it much.

Soon, Makino opened a window and called out to the two. "Dinner is ready, come and get it, boys!" Makino's voice was loud and clear.

Luffy's eyes sparkled when he heard her announcement. "Meat!" Luffy ran off in a hurry toward the house, he literally left a dust cloud when he ran off.

"Damn, why doesn't he run that fast during tag, is this guy messing around?" Rein was dumbfounded looking at Luffy's sudden speed when Makino called out. Luffy and Rein may be twins but if you look closely at Rein, you would see he had a more serious face compared to his brother Luffy.

"Just three more years left then I can access the system." He needed to be 7 years of age in order to gain access to the system, for some reason. He was okay with it since his days here are quite peaceful and that there was no rush to get stronger.

After speaking to himself for a bit, Rein made his way to the house where Luffy ran off to. Once he entered the house, he saw Luffy at the table with a drooling mouth and eyes of stars. "This guy is just like the show for sure!" Rein laughed, this was such a good life experience. Rein made his way to the table and sat down as well.

Makino walked in with two platters of meat. She had seen how both of them eat and knew that these weren't average kids you see on the regular. "Now, you guys eat slowly or you'll both choke." Luffy seemed to not hear what Makino was saying and just nodded his head. Makino sighed and put the food on the table. Luffy wasted no time and began to devour the meat like it was the last meal he'll ever eat.

Rein was no different and began to stuff himself as well. Makino shook her head and smiled as she walked off, moments later she brought over some juice for them to drink. Once it was down to the last piece of meat, Luffy glared at the last piece, then Rein, Rein did the same thing and they both suddenly reached for the last piece of meat at a crazy speed!

"It's mine!" Luffy growled and said

"Not even!" Rein glared back at him and countered. Soon, the meat was torn into two pieces as they both ate their torn piece. Once they ate their piece of meat, they scoffed down the cold apple juice in a hurry.

"Phew, that was amazing!" Luffy's stomach was bloated like a balloon, Rein was no different, they ate well!

"Yeah, Makino, you're cooking is the best in the village, haha!" Rein complimented and picked his teeth with a toothpick.

"Aw Rein, you're so good with words, thank you!" Makino smiled and said

"Makino cooking is the best so far, but there might be others that are better, haha!" Luffy bluntly said while laughing like a silly little boy. Rein knocked him on the head, telling him to be nice, causing Makino to laugh out loud.

"Okay, Rein and Luffy, it's time for bed, you need all the rest you can get. You two are growing boys who need a lot of sleep at your age." Makino spoke with authority and pointed towards their room upstairs.

"Ah, do we have to go to sleep, I want to play more," Luffy complained. Surprisingly, he wasn't tired after playing and eating so much! Luffy and Rein were still beaming with energy to do more activities.

"No, you must listen and go to sleep. Tomorrow you can play again like always, so get some rest in the meantime." Makino wasn't taking no for an answer and pointed them to their room which they both shared

"Okay, let's go, Rein. Tomorrow we can play tag again! I'll catch you for sure, just you wait!" Luffy patted his c.h.e.s.t and said firmly.

Rein looked at Luffy and thought 'If I were carrying a steak on my back, I bet you would catch me in a flash!' Rein was 20 back at home but was playing tag with his m.a.t.u.r.e mind. It seemed ridiculous but he was doing this makeup for the childhood he didn't enjoy, and why not enjoy his new life before he became an a.d.u.l.t in this one. His brother is also the legendary Luffy from the anime one piece, so why not?

Both Luffy and Rein went to their room while talking to each other enthusiastically. Rein shut the door and Luffy dived into the bed happily. Rein dropped down and started doing pushup right after. Luffy scratched his head as he watched Rein do pushups, he had seen him do this often when he wasn't doing anything else.

"What do you call them again and why do you do them?" Luffy couldn't help but ask.

Rein looked up at Luffy. "They're called push-ups, they'll help my arms get stronger to beat up the bad guys that want to hurt me, my friends, and family." Rein explained in a way to motivate Luffy, he knew how Luffy was in the anime and manga.

"Gasp!" Luffy gasped deeply when he heard what Rein said. "I want to do them too!" Luffy got off the bed and mimicked the same thing Rein was doing. "Agg!" Luffy fell flat on his face after attempting his first push up. "This is so hard to do, Rein your amazing!" Luffy complemented and kept trying to do some pushups. Rein had already finished his 20 pushups and jumped on his bed afterward. He didn't want to overdo it, he was still a kid, after all.

Luffy laid flat on the ground after so many failed attempts. "Luffy, what do you want to be when you grow up?" Rein said and continued "Do you want to be a marine like grandpa?" Rein looked at Luffy who was still laying flat on the ground and suddenly, he heard his low snoring!

"HE FELL ASLEEP!" Rein was shocked, he wasn't tired not too long ago, how was he sleeping now!? Rein grinned and got off his bed to put Luffy on his bed.

"I love you, Rein," Luffy mumbled in his sleep. Rein eyes grew wide as he looked at Luffy face, he felt a tinge of emotion hearing what Luffy said in his sleep, but what he heard next almost made him slip and fall as he was walking away. "Just give me all the meat, and I'll love you more!" Black lines appeared on Rein's forehead but he still smiled and leaped on his bed and fell asleep as well.

The next day rolled around and Luffy was the first to wake up. He didn't disturb Rein, who was still sleeping and decided to go downstairs for breakfast which Makino prepared for them every day. 20 minutes after Luffy woke up, Rein woke up right after.

Rein thought about the question he asked Luffy yesterday, he had to make a plan for his future in this world. Luffy already had a bright future, but what about himself? "I can first become a bounty hunter, then a pirate afterward, maybe." Rein wasn't sure, but being a pirate was better than being a marine, who were puppets for the world nobles.

"This is the best time to train, I'll do it every now and then but won't waste these great memories of our childhood. This is one for the books, haha!" Rein got out of his bed and saw that Luffy wasn't in his like always. Luffy always woke up earlier than him and ran downstairs to get dibs on the food first.

"You sly little thing, I won't let you eat all the food!" Rein opened the door and rushed downstairs. Every sense he entered this world his appetite had been quite big for his age. Luffy was gobbling down some eggs and rice, along with some toast. The main thing he was attacking was the sausage. Makino didn't put all the food on the table or Luffy would have smashed it all. She made sure to wait for Rein to wake up so she could give him his share when he emerged from his room.

Luffy was in a trace while eating and didn't notice Rein at all. "I saved your food for you, so he wouldn't eat your share," Makino said as she put Rein's share on the table.

"Thank you, Makino." Rein smiled and began to eat his breakfast. Makino said nothing and just smiled instead. She then left out of the house but not before saying. "You guys make sure you're careful when playing, I'll be heading to the bar now," Makino said before leaving the house.

Rein and Luffy continued to eat until the table was cleared. "Mhm, that was good as always. "Rein said. "Luffy, do you want to go fishing? We can catch our own food for later, this will also help us learn how to catch our own food instead of relying on others all the time." Rein explained slowly so that Luffy could understand better, he was still a kid and a bit slow.

"Wow, yeah, let's catch some fish!" Luffy agreed immediately without thinking. Rein found it funny how naive Luffy was as a kid and an a.d.u.l.t. Rein made sure to put all the dishes away before leaving the house with Luffy. Before he left the house, he grabbed the fishing rod that was hanging on the wall.

Luffy and Rein dashed out of the house in a hurry and towards the oceanic area. Once they arrived, they were greeted by a boundless blue sea. "Luffy, go and get some bait to catch some fish. What we'll need are some worms to catch them." Rein turned to Luffy and said.

"Okay!" Luffy ran off into the little forest nearby to search for some worms.

Meanwhile, Rein began to talk to himself. "Hmm, I can only see my status page but I can't access the system, this doesn't mean I can't boost my abilities without the system." Rein could only call his status page up but couldn't access the system store until he was 7 years old. He had noticed one thing about his status page that surprised him at first.

"Status!" Rein called out in his mind.

After playing hide a seek for so long, Rein's Agility has increased by one since then. The main thing he was satisfied with was his strength that took some time to go up. It had finally made it to 4 yesterday after doing some push-ups every day.

Rein had noticed that he already had Conqueror's Haki, but it was locked as he wasn't strong enough to use it unless he was under severe stress or distress like Luffy, or Donquixote when he was a kid. However, it would only activate for a moment before being locked again since he had no control over it now. Luffy and Ace also had this ability, but just like himself, the power was locked until the individual trained enough to feel and train the ability.

"Man, without someone to train me on how to use Haki, it's going to be harder for myself." Luffy was instructed by Rayleigh closely on how to use Haki. If he made a mistake he could tell him in-depth about his mistake and how to overcome it, Rein didn't have this luxury, at least not yet.

"I'll have to teach myself for now, so it'll take longer than what it took Luffy, which was 2 years' time." Overall, Rein wasn't worried, he knew what he had to do and he had all the time in the world to practice before he did what he wanted.

At that time, Luffy came running back with a hand full of mud with worms squirming in it. "Look Rein, I got a lot of wormys, see look!" Luffy almost shoved the mud and worms into Rein's face trying to show him what he had caught.

"Dang it, you idiot, don't put them on my face!" Rein back away hurriedly

"Oh, hehehe!" Luffy gave a cunning smile and laughed as he looked at Rein's distressed expression.

"Luffy! Don't get out of hand now, let's catch some fish!" Rein glared at Luffy but Luffy wasn't fazed and continued to laugh.

"Okay, let's catch them!" Luffy sat down on the rock. Rein attached a worm onto the hook and flung it into the ocean. Luffy waited on the rock patiently, time quickly passed as an hour had already gone by.

Waiting for so long to catch a fish, Luffy couldn't help but complain. "Rein, where are the fish, this is taking too long." Luffy pouted impatiently, he never knew it would take this long to catch a fish.

"Just wait a bit more, patience is the key to victory." Rein doubted what he said. In truth, he was getting impatient himself. Luffy grumbled silently and began to pick his nose with a straight face. "Hey, don't do that, that's nas...." Before he could finish, the line began to shake.

"Oh, shoot! This fish is huge! Luffy, help me reel it in!" Rein called out urgently, he didn't have the strength to hold this fish. Luffy leaped up and off the rock to assist Rein.

"Pull Harder!!" Rein roared as veins began to pop out of both Luffy and Rein's head!

Soon, they both could see a large shadow in the water. "IT'S HUGE!"

Luffy's eyes bulged when he saw the large shadow ascending towards the surface. "Real it in, the bigger it is, the more "Meat' we can get!" Rein made sure to emphasize the word meat. And sure enough, the plan was a hitch!

"Meat!!" Luffy strength somehow soared, and with their combined might, they managed to pull the fish to shore. The fish was huge with blue scales all over, it had a derpy face with huge bulging eyes. This fish weighed more than both of them combined, he was unsure how many pounds the fish was but it was bigger than them. It was already shocking that 2 little 4-year-olds manage to catch such a huge fish all by themselves!

"Hehe, let's give this to Makino later to make for dinner, she can cook anything good!" Rein's eyes started to sparkle imagining how good this fish would taste later. Luffy was no different and gave a nod with sparkling eyes as well. Both of them with their little bodies picked up the fish and began to carry it back home to put some ice on it, so it wouldn't go bad for later feeding.
