Overlord: Blue Citadel Alternate

Chapter 1 - 「NotAnUpdate」

A shiver passed through him as he rubbed his cheek into the dirty cold stone work. Jack's eyes slowly opened, the night taken lit streets of E-Rantel faded in to greet him. His eyes focusing on the flickering flame of the nearest oil lamp, he felt like he was in a daze for a moment before slowly sitting up.

"Hmm… This isn't my room..."

Jack grimaced at the realization that he was probably still in the game, until he accessed the menu only to find there was no way to log out. His eyes moved to the clock within his vision and quickly noted that it had restarted. It was no longer at 00:00. The time itself was late, probably around ten or eleven. The sky was dark and decorated in constellations and stars he didn't recognize.

This wasn't YGGDRASIL, so the servers really did shut down. Then why was he here?

Looking down at the street where he had been rubbing his face against the dirty stone tiling, he pursed his lips. A few inches from him was the 'Mirror of Change,' an Item which was used to customize one's face. What was that doing here?

Picking it up, he stared into the mirror, only to notice that the glass itself was chipped and he wasn't himself either. He was his character, Cipher, which he had changed for the end of the game.

White hair, big sharp purple eyes and darker olive toned skin.

He had even changed his outfit from the typical double b.r.e.a.s.ted black tunic. Instead he wore a very different outfit and followed a simple scheme of black and white.

Checking himself out in the mirror, he was quick to note that he could feel the cold handle in his hand. He could feel everything unlike when he was playing the game. According to what he could remember, the game didn't have all that. Due to the legality of how much the game system could even incorporate all of this information, meant something was definitely not right.

Cannot log out. There is no button, no path. The menu is partially defunct.

He couldn't reach the Game Master either as he called out for, it was as if they weren't there.

At least he could access the Developer Log, see if there was anything wrong. However the moment he accessed the log, he found himself gazing over a blank screen.

"What in the world…?" He was a hacker, he was a software and game developer. Yet there was no data here whatsoever about a world change or anything like that. Usually in game, it was constantly updating with new data and information. There was nothing showing up, nothing new.

Closing the screen, he glanced up from where he was sitting on the ground and noticed a wagon across the street. People talking, carrying things inside.

Then that's when he heard the lamp break.

Twirling it slightly, all the sound suddenly stopped after a few seconds and a sickly looking old man went inside. That didn't seem right at all.

Someone dropped a lamp? There had seemed to be a panic, and then there was nothing. His head lulled to the side as he took a step forward. He could feel his toes inside of his boot, the way his pants shifted against his leg.

The sensitivity felt so real.

Looking both ways, there were no carts coming. There was literally no one coming. It was odd even at night for a street in what seemed like a city, to be empty.

Holding his staff out to the side, letting it ride up on his upper back diagonally as he pointed it downward from himself. He darted across the street silently, lunging off the tips of his toes.

Within a few seconds he was at the door and when he placed his ear against it, he still heard nothing.

That was the strange part. He could hear nothing, absolutely nothing. Even if no one had been inside, he'd at least be able to hear the natural movement of the wood or even footsteps. The house wasn't looking as if it was that well insulated so that shouldn't be.

Knocking a rhythm at the door, he didn't hear the knock resonate through the wood, as if the entire building was one solid block in which no sound would travel through.

"Hm..." Looking over at the wagon again, there was plenty of herbs still loaded onto it. So they shouldn't have left everything out here. The horse was even standing there idly.

"The f.u.c.k is this?"

「Detect Life」

A mystical enigmatic purple outlined human life signs within the room, three of them were fading, one of them was unconscious and another was erratic. It looked like her bodily form was screaming out. Then there was the two others who were occupied with the group present. The ones which had been unloading the wagon and talking like friends earlier.

The old sickly man was on the ground floor, with the unconscious one on a table. He was facing towards what he could only assume was the direction of a door leading down to where the other five were. It was very clear that this wasn't a friendly visit.

As a PVPer in the world of YGGDRASIL he was a cautious individual, but when it came to people whom were underpowered and under fire, he had the tendency to jump in and help them out without thinking. So that was exactly what he was going to do, jump in, test the waters.

If he were to die, he'd die saving someone. Unlike how he couldn't save his little sister from being hit by a car during a hit and run.

「Teleportation」

Without breaking down the door, he vanished upon the reciting of this spell and resurfaced inside directly on the other side of the door.

Khajiit turned his head to the side slightly as he heard the squeaking of the wooden floorboards suddenly having weight on them. Then he nearly jumped out of his skin, "Huh!?"

Given the man's lack of active response other than noticing him right away, it gave Jack enough time to see who and what this person was.

His name was Khajiit Dale Badantel, a weird name, but oddly normal compared to a character from YGGDRASIL who had names that weren't even close to a real one. He was just happy to see that the name didn't look like xXxEmoBoy10000xXx. Now that would really annoy him and even pity the guy.

Instead however this man in red, with skulls on his neck, seemed to smile and twist his staff towards him. "And just who are you? How did you get in here?"

"Momon will come and save us!" A girl could be heard shouting from the bas.e.m.e.nt, before screaming out in pain. There was clearly torture going on down stairs. The screaming followed by sobbing. "He'll definitely come! He'll kill you and save us!"

"Weakling," Jack sighed at the man's devious smile and evil aura.

"What!? How dar--" SNAP, Khajiit's head twisted twice around with a simple flick of Jack's wrist. It was a Telekinetic Instead Death Effect that affected those on a much lower level compared to Jack himself.

Jack rolled his eyes as the dead man dropped to the ground before walking over to the door.

"AhahaAhahahAha!" A laugh was erupted from an unknown female. It wasn't the same as the one screaming and calling out for help. Saying that someone named Momon was going to come.

Why did the name Momon sound familiar anyway?

"I hate fantasy armor..." He muttered as he dragged his staff along the wooden floor.

"Dale?" The female turned around with a creepily wide mouth and very flat facial features. However that smile soon vanished the moment she saw someone else standing there.

His eyes shifted past the blonde's form and over towards the brunette slouched against the wall. She was bleeding, large amounts of tears staining her face and continuing to flow.

She was covered in blood, bruises. Her bound c.h.e.s.t was visible for all to see.

"Ninya..." one of the three men on the ground uttered. "Save Ninya… Please..." The man grasped the leg of his pants, before weakly letting go. "Save...sav...s….ssss…."

Jack's eyes flickered down at the man begging. His name was Peter. His eyes moved from one dying man to another. The other two were Dyne and Lukrut. For the time being their bodies were in perfect shape for revival magic.

His eyes then met with the Blonde woman who was now standing up with two stilettos in her hands.

"May I know the name of who I am killing?" Jack asking this was needless. The spell for Greater Identification was still active. Her name was Lady Clementine, former member of something called the Black Scripture from a country called the Slane Theocracy.

"OhOhOh~!" Clementine giggled at this, her body slithering side to side as she stepped closer to him. "So confident, you think you can kill me? Hehehehe… I haven't finished having fun yet! Wait your turn, or just die!"

"Useless."

"Huh?" Clementine's right brow raised as she dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding a lethal invisible force that left a mark a small scratch on her shoulder. She looked at her arm and stared for a few seconds before looking at him.

They were in a tight space. This wasn't the ideal location for her to fight against someone like this.

Turning his head slightly to look at her over his shoulder, he wore a faint smile across his lips. His eyes were glowing in the dimly lit room. "Heh… Cute, but that was a fluke." Turning on his heel, he faced her. "Lets see if you can dodge this."

「Flash Step」

As Clementine dove for the door, she felt something pierce her side, but it didn't just stop at that.

Jack's staff had pierced her side and continued to travel through her stomach and exit out the other side of her body, before she was rammed into the wooden interior wall of the room.

BAM!

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaah!" Clementine shrieked and puked out blood. She put her hand on the staff and began to claw at it. Trying to push at the wall with her other hand. Yet she couldn't budge. No matter how many martial arts she used.

His eyes traveled over to the weapons she had dropped at her feet due to the amount of force used to superficially attached her to the wall as if his magic staff was a spear.

"I'll kill you! You can't kill me that easily!" Clementine continued to shriek, still trying to get free. She moved like a wild animal who was cornered, caught in a barbed wire net and unable to break free.

That's when he heard the soft footsteps of boots behind him. They weren't moving quite right and he could hear the erratic breathing. Sniffling. Glancing over his shoulder as Clementine was preoccupied, he raised a brow to see the brunette walking towards them with a blade in her hand.

A black metal short sword with a jeweled hilt.

"Interesting," he made this simple observation as he watched her limp up behind Clementine who couldn't move or twist her body around to defend herself.

Ninya raised the weapon, both hands on the hilt before driving it down with all the strength she could muster into the back of the woman. Crying as she continually brought the blade down and pierced through her back.

Clementine gasped and writhed against the staff. She was losing energy fast and even though she used her martial training to deflect some of the attacks. Ninya just kept coming back and stabbing her, over and over again.

Watching as the life faded from the three men and the blonde woman, Jack would pull the staff out of the dead woman's side and stare down at her.

He felt nothing from killing her except for some relief. Why? He didn't necessarily know. His eyes trailed over to Nina who was looking at him with these puffy blue eyes of hers. Her head was bobbing up and down. She wasn't nodding. She was having a hard time keeping her eyes open.

"Th-...Tha...Thank you..." In the moment her strength gave out, Ninya fell into Jack's open arm which he would've held out to his side in the event that she did collapse.

"Hmm..." Staring at the female in his arm, he glanced over towards the three men. "If I assimilate them… I'd learn where I am..." His eyes moved to the dead girl, "Or if I assimilate her and resurrect them, I could be considered a hero?"

As an Arch Lich, he could use super-tier magic, also known as eleventh tier by some, and below.

"But first..." Hovering the staff over her, he recited the spell 「Heal」.

A glowing green light surrounded the young woman on his arm and healed all of her statuses. The cuts, the bruises. Even the destruction to her clothes and deformation to her face and limbs. She was completely healed within seconds.

Walking over to the table, he dr.a.p.ed her over the side of it before turning and looking to the other three.

"Should I ask for compensation?" Jack raised a brow staring at them, "Would they want to come back?" His eyes trailed over to the girl who had been amongst the three males and the one upstairs.

"Perhaps a favor they will owe, no matter how weak and fragile they may be." With his appearance as a human and his capacity to feel just like one, he didn't look down on them for being human. He himself saw himself still as human. He was a player, playing in a fictional environment. So why would he see himself as the very being he had chosen to become in a game? That'd be stupid, right?

His tongue poked out of his lips before stabbing Clementine in the head with the staff, pushing it in until it met the other interior side of her skull.

「Devour」

This Devour Spell which he just cast was a lesser version of Assimilation, which primarily focuses on a single target and instead of turning them into vials of experience, it directly implants it into the caster.

Within seconds the body of Clementine was gone, leaving behind her personal effects.

Jack's face, his skin, had become transparent. Revealing his crystalline skeletal features and amethyst jeweled eyes as he absorbed all of Clementine's knowledge of this world as well as her Martial abilities. His tongue rolled along his lips as he even learned more about the Black Scripture and the Slane Theocracy. They seemed to have a stockpile of YGGDRASIL artifacts, more than they know what to do with. And it seemed they were at war with the Elf Kingdom and messing with the affairs of other human nations.

Unlike the assimilation spell however, Devour could be used every five minutes rather than once a month. That was generally because the Assimilation Spell allowed for the consumption of multiple foes within a certain radius of the caster.

So as his eyes rested on the three males, he held the staff horizontally over their bodies.
