Overlord: Blue Citadel Alternate

Chapter 2 - 「Darkness」

Jack's attention moved towards the mantle on the floor. So he reached down and picked up the cloak, whipping it over and around his shoulders and tying it off around his neck. "Hm.." Glaring at the length of the item, then glanced over towards the three men.

They were on the ground groaning, groggily moving about on the floor.

"What happened..." Muttered Peter as he blindly pressed is hands against the wall and pulled himself up to his feet unsteadily.

Lukrut on the other hand, with his blond mullet, propped himself up against the wall, just sitting on the ground. His hands were on his face, holding his head as if he had a massive hangover.

Then in the end there was Dyne who was just laying there on the ground sleeping.

The big man was an interesting specimen, being a druid and all.

"You died," Jack abruptly stated as he rolled his wrist slightly, walking over to the table, looking over Ninya's face. He reached over and wiped the tears away from her face with his gloved hands.

Peter shook his head slightly trying to collect himself, "Serious? That was death..." He recalled the darkness and then the light. He had been brought forth by a voice, one which asked him if he wanted to live and he said yes before reaching out. Now, he was here, alive.

His eyes trailed along the floor before catching a glimpse of scantily clad armor decorating the floor and whatever else the woman who had killed them was wearing. And quickly noticed that Jack was wearing the mantle. Either this man was a shapeshifter, or he had undressed the woman who attacked.

No, he could tell this man wasn't the woman. He remembered, he begged this man to protect Ninya before losing consciousness and soon after his life.

Peter stared in awe as the man was without a scratch. Soon enough he found that there was evidence of blood. Including Ninya's dagger sitting impaled in the floor. Covered in the blood of the blonde woman, and then there was a little gaping hole in the wall where blood was definitely seen all around. Even on the floor which looked like it had been puked up..

"Where's the woman…?" Peter wasn't necessarily worried about her being alive, more so bothered that he didn't see a corpse anywhere, just the clothes left behind.

"Disintegrated it," of course the only reason they weren't flipping out was because he was in his human appearance. His skeleton form was no longer apparent. "With magic."

Peter raised a brow, he didn't see any scorch marks, but he didn't question what kind of magic. This man had brought him back to life with fifth tier magic which very few were even capable of using.

Of course, this was actually a ninth tier magic spell, not a fifth. He had no idea which resurrection spell which was used upon him. Jack however allowed them to remain ignorant of the magic he had used already knowing after assimilating the former Black Scripture member's knowledge that anything above third was excessively rare.

"What do you want for helping us?" Peter asked as he looked up at the man. He was sure this person didn't do this for free, reviving them.

"Tell me… About this Momon." His eyes narrowed on the man, curious about the man that the girl was screaming and shouting for. The one who gave her false hope that she would've survived if he hadn't showed upon that very moment.

Peter blinked a few times. "He's a foreigner from a Country to the South. He wears full black plate armor and has two massive blades. His partner's name is Nabe and they're copper ranked adventurers trying to make a name for themselves. They recently captured and subdued the Wise King of the Forest."

"…" Jack frowned slightly at the useless information which was given to him. The name Nabe meant nothing to him and the whole Country to the South sounded irrelevant. "His face?"

"Looks older than you'd think he was due to his physical condition. He can take out an Ogre in a single blow." Peter exclaimed as he leaned against the wall for support. "He's got dark eyes and black hair, lightly tanned skin."

"Huh…" Jack stared at Peter as he was trying to describe the shape of his eyes by physically and clumsily manipulating his own with his fingers. "Stop it, I get it." Dismissing Peter, he looked over towards Dyne who was still grounded and Lukrut who was lightly hitting the back of his head against the wall as if something on his mind was bothering him.

Jack's eyes flickered over to the girl who he had dr.a.p.ed onto the table as she rolled onto her side. Her legs dangling off the side of the table as she did so. Then his eyes moved back towards Lukrut who was peering up at her.

"Huh..." His attention went back to Peter, "Did he ever say any names, or this Nabe say anyone's names?" He was curious if anything unusual was said or if a familiar name would pop up.

"Uh… I'm pretty sure Nabe said something about Momon having a woman named… Albedo?"

"Oh, Momonga..." Jack pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes as he dipped his head down slightly. "This is just perfect," he chuckled to himself and shook his head, letting his hands fall to his sides. "Where is he n--"

"A necromancer?" A voice could be heard from above.

"Momon-san!" Peter shouted, trying to push himself off of the wall weakly, only to practically fall back against it as if he was held there by a magnet of weakness. "Down here!"

Jack raised a brow at Peter who was smiling brightly due to hearing a friend. He then turned his attention to the door as a large figure entered. His eyes traced over the armor for a few moments before his gaze turned to Nabe who entered behind him.

Momon and Nabe gave a once over at the armor that was on the ground before centering their vision on Jack who was standing closest to the door.

Jack took in a deep inhale and exhaled slowly. "Momonga."

"Eh?" Momon stared at the man through his visor.

Nabe practically dived in front of him with a hand on her hilt, ready to draw her katana in order to cut down the possible hostile. Her sights sharp and ready for action.

"Identify yourself." Nabe said as her blade shined as it was slowly being pulled from her scabbard.

"Isn't that a...?" Jack looked over her facial features, how she was dressed. They definitely blended in. Were they roleplaying? His eyes rested on Momonga again, tilting his head to the side. He could tell Nabe was Narberal, one of the Combat Maids from the Great Tomb of Nazarick. Though he was rather surprised that she had an actual voice and could act on her own.

"Would you like me to hand you a Cryptograph?" Jack asked as he looked straight through Momon, this was his typical response in the game.

"You changed your face," Momonga chuckled audibly before looking towards the others, "He's an acquaintance of mine.." His gaze looked over the gruesome state of the room. Blood and torture evident, yet none of those present seemed to be injured, only weakened. "What happened here?"

"Some woman named Clementine formerly from the Slane Theocracy was torturing and killing them," He said before pointing up the stairs towards the necromancer. "She was teaming up with a member of a Death Cult. Apparently the guy up there was trying to use some sort of ritual to become a Lich."

"You resurrected them…?" Momon was intrigued though not surprised that he had jumped in and saved the day. He was similar to his friend Touch Me in his eyes, though Jack did it for different reasons. It was more of a Balance thing for Jack rather than being a Hero even though that was somewhat part of it.

"Hm… Resurrected?" Sitting up and rubbing her eyes, Ninya sat on the table, looking over towards her friends who were alive and well. Though Lukrut seemed really bothered. "You guys are okay?" She blinked, extremely surprised, but humbly keeping herself under control as she smiled with tears of joy.

Jack looked over towards them, then to Ninya.

Peter nodded and pointed towards Jack, "Thanks to him. He brought us back from death itself, just like that woman from the Blue Rose."

Ninya looked over at the man, her face flushed slightly seeing and noticing his amethyst eyes for the first time. He had really pretty sparkly eyes that seemed to glow in the dim light of the room. Next to the two other adventurers, it appeared that there was now a third mystery person in her life.

"What's your name?" Ninya asked since Momon hadn't said it and Jack didn't introduce himself in any sort of direct fashion as he often chose the roundabout approach.

"W-wait!" Ninya pushed herself off of the table and moved in front of him to get his attention.

Jack who went to walk out of the room, came to a stop the moment she stood in front of him. She was plenty shorter than he was. He kept that curved smile though as he tilted his head to the side.

"Thank you for saving me. Healing me, and restoring my friends." She knelt down in front of him on both knees in thanks, taking hold of his free hand and squeezing it in her own.

His enigmatic eyes stared right through her sky blue hues as if they were the ocean.

"I know you didn't have to… You could have just walked away and let us die. So I thank you… Jack."

Jack released his hold on the staff, letting it stand on its own, as he would place it on the top of her head, before letting it laxly move to the side of her face. Gently feeling her childish face through his glove.

"Ninya reminds you of her it seems, huh?" Momon could recognize the look in Jack's eyes as he was looking through the girl who was on her knees before him. Though Jack didn't have to answer, so he didn't.

"Her?" Peter asked as he finally stood apart from the wall looking over the two of them. Ninya didn't seem to mind the fact the stranger was touching her face in such a manner.

"His little sister, killed by a carriage drawn by a noble." Momon threw together a fabricated story based on a true story as Jack's sister had died in a hit and run.

"Momon," Jack looked towards the Overlord in Disguise as a Warrior in Black Armor. "There are more necromancers in the Cemetery. If you go now, they won't be expecting you." He didn't feel like dealing with a bunch of weaklings. Khajiit was the leader of whatever this sect of the Cult was. Plus, he had no real use for renown for the time being. Seeing as Momon and Nabe were wearing similar tags to that of the four adventurers here, it was clear he was masquerading as one of them.

Momon nodded and turned away with Nabe in tow, but of course, not without talking with the Grandmother of Nphirea about moving to Carne Village. The idea of a Death Cult pursuing Nphirea being very convincing for the old woman to conform to. On top of the idea of being able to make a red potion, which Jack didn't quite understand until he used some of Clementine's knowledge.

Jack then turned his attention back towards Ninya who was still on her knees, holding onto his gloved hand. She was staring at it, experimenting with his fingers as if they weren't actual hands.

His eyes rested on her eyes, she was no longer looking up at him. "Did you..?"

Ninya nodded, "I saw."

Peter raised a brow as Dyne sat up and looked at his friends, rubbing his backside slightly. "Saw what?" Peter inquired.

"Nothing," Jack spoke softly as he looked over at Peter, tilting his head to the side.

Peter looked to Ninya for confirmation, and she simply nodded to affirm what Jack had said. She had seen nothing which seemed weird for her to say after she said she saw something.

It seemed that Ninya who been dr.a.p.ed onto the table was in and out of consciousness, so she had gotten a few glimpses of his skeletal form. It was one of the things that oddly enough peaked her interest. He appeared human until magic was cast upon him.

"I'm going to get going," Jack collected Clementine's things with his free hand before stuffing them into his item box.

Seeing the man use the item box, Ninya's eyes widened believing he was using some sort of dimensional storage magic of some kind.

Though to everyone else, it just looked like he had tucked it behind the mantle he was wearing.

"Mind showing me a place to stay?" Jack thought twice about wondering off alone. Even if he had Clementine's knowledge of E-Rantel, she didn't seem to stay in a public place. He didn't want to sleep anywhere she had been. She was on the run from her own country after stealing what appeared to be a priceless artifact.

Ninya nodded and looked over towards Peter who gave a light thumbs up. She smiled at him with a suppressed giggle before standing and leading him out of the bas.e.m.e.nt and into the main room as he grabbed hold of his staff.

As they were about the pass by the necromancer, he dipped down real quick to swipe the Crown of Wisdom and kept moving as she made their path to the Inn her party was staying at rather clear.
