Pokemon: The Wandering Guardian

Chapter 26 - Start of a Journey (1)

Lan woke up early to make a nice breakfast for him and his Pokemon. He had let all of his them out in his room to sleep except for Horsea. The small Vulpix was still wary of him even though he didn't approach it all night.

Lan went outside to let Horsea swim around for a while he was going to help Oak with the new trainers. It didn't take long for it to make friends with other water Pokemon so he left him alone to play.

Lan then preceded to brush all of his Growlithe and Vulpix while the other one refused to come near him. On the way down here the Vulpix seemed to be wary of Lan but seemed less vigilant of Daisy.

After he was done he went back to the lab and set down his backpack in the corner. Growlithe curled up next to it while Vulpix jumped up to Lan's l.a.p once he sat at one of the tables. He then preceded to play with Vulpix until people arrived at the Lab.

Professor Oak arrived first and looked a little groggy. He went over to the coffee machine grabbed a cup and pulled out a newspaper to read. Vulpix started to explore the Lab while Lan relaxed and sparingly chatted with Oak.

Daisy arrived in a bit and she soon started to guzzle multiple cups of coffee. Apparently, she was up late last night talking to Grandpa and Gary or so he heard from his room.

After a little wait, the first of the new trainers showed up. There was a girl in a light green sundress dragging along a boy by his ear. They each had small travel bags and were discussing something in low voices. They turned and saw Professor Oak and greeted him. After a discussion, they sat down at a couple of empty seats to wait for the appointed time.

Vulpix had enough of its exploration and jumped up to Lan's l.a.p. Daisy preceded to make her way over to Lan and sat next to him. She started to brush Vulpix with a brush she had in her purse.

"Daisy shouldn't Gary be here already? I mean he lives a couple feet from here"

" I know but he went out this morning muttering something about how a future champion needs to make a Grand Entrance or start of the Journey. Something like that "

"Oh, that sounds like that I hope it isn't too obsessive."

"Yeah..."

Daisy was interrupted by someone starting to speak to them.

"Excuse us can we pet your Pokemon?"

The girl in the green dress and the boy had made their way in front of them"

The girl had stars in her eyes looking at Vulpix while the boy was looking at it curiously. Lan nodded " Yeah, just be careful to not approach her too fast and let her sniff you before you pet her"

The duo nodded and followed Lan's Instructions and they petted Vulpix.

Daisy and Lan smiled.

<Slam>

The door to the lab opened and Gary made his way in. He had a smirk on his face and they could hear people chanting his name in the background.

"Gary!!!"

"Gary!!!"

"Gary!!!"

Lan then turned to Daisy "That's a little much right?"

The three people around him subconsciously nodded in agreement.

Oak then clapped his hands and motioned everyone to gather.

"Well the appointed time has come and we are just missing one person. We won't wait on him because you all need to get on your journeys."

Oak then preceded to give his speech about what it means to be a trainer of Pokemon and about the boundless adventure that awaited them. He then took out three Pokedex's and six empty Pokeballs and gave them to each new trainer. He then preceded to enter their information on his computer.

Oak then took out 3 Pokeball out of a special case and set them on the table. He then released each of the starting Pokemon from their Pokeball and preceded to explain a basic description of each one.

Lan could see that these pokemon were young and healthy. They were perfect for a new trainer to raise.

Oak then said " So to determine who will pick first we will go by the order arrived. So, Mrs. Green, you choose first. Followed by Mr. Reddington lastly, Gary will take the remaining one."

Gary's face immediately distorted and w.h.i.n.ed " Come on Gramps that isn't fair I wanted to choose mine first. I deserve the strongest one"

Oak " Gary this is how it has always been and you live here so you could have been first. But you did not arrive first"

Gary: "But..."

Lan " Shut it, Gary. Don't you want to get a Pokemon soon? "

Gary immediately glared at Lan but preceded to shut up. He knew Lan and he knew that he was going to start the same as him and he already had four Pokemon. He needed to still get his first so he went silent.

Okay, Ms. Greene come up here and choose.

The young girl nodded and slowly the pokemon on the far left. She knelt and offered her hand and asked it " Bulbasaur will you be my partner?"

The Pokemon nodded happy it was chosen first. "Bulba! Bulba!" The girl squealed and hugged the Pokemon.

Oak then nodded at the boy that came with the girl. He did the same thing but approached the middle Pokemon. "Charmander, how about we be partners?"

"Charmander!" The Pokemon immediately squealed and tackled the kid knocking him over.

Gary then approached Squirtly " Buddy we are going to be the strongest"

"Squirtle" nodded and grinned with a large smug grin.

Lan whispered under his breath "Looks like they were made with each other. No one heard it except for Daisy who covered her mouth and snickered at the comment.

The new trainers familiarized himself with their new Pokemon. Professor Oak talked about the batteling basics.

Lan then returned Vulpix and Growlithe and went back to find the other two Pokemon. Soon enough he returned to the lab to see that Gary was saying goodbye to his Sister and his Grandpa.

Lan then silently slipped out the door. He didn't want to interrupt the family. He doesn't know how to say goodbye to that group but to avoid an outburst of Daisy which usually ends up with him getting hit on the head he would do anything.
