Pokemon: The Wandering Guardian

While opening the door to the lab Daisy started to yell "Grandpa, we are Back!!!"

"Do you have to shout in my Ear?!" an annoyed voice came from behind her

"Humph, I am just glad I am back." as she stomped her foot.

"Sis your back?" A voice could be heard from someone who was entering the lab

Daisy runs up to Gary and hugs him and started to swing him around.

"Sis stop, dont mess with my hair. Sis stop, Put me down I am not a little kid anymore"

While Gary was happily interacting with his sister, Lan was recording them with his Pokedex which had a video camera option. He was laughing internally and thinking about all of the ways he could Blackmail Gary in the future if he started bragging too much.

After a couple of minutes, the reunion got kind of old because Daisy was still teasing Gary and catching up with all of the events that had happened why she was gone. So Lan then went off to find the Professor to talk about his plan.

After a while, Lan ended up finding him in part of the Lab that held most of the Lab's computer hardware. He was crawling on the ground.

"Umm Professor what are you doing?"

<Bonk >

The professor was startled by the sudden question and hit his head on a pipe.

"Ahhh, Lan you scared me there. I was looking for the Pokemon who has been eating my wires the past couple of days. I need to finish the preparations around here and load the current Pokedex updates into the new Pokedexes before new trainers start on their Journe tomorrow."

"Oh okay. Um, Professor what pokemon do you think that is the culprit?

"Well, from my clues it seems to be a wild younger Pikachu."

"Oh, Professor, have you tried to trap it with some food?

"Uh... No, I have not"

Professor Oak slammed his other hand with his fist as if he just had a major revelation. Lan and the Professor then pulled out a couple of berries from the food storage and placed them out in open spots near the chewed wires.

A couple minutes later Lan and the Professor could see a yellow mouselike Pokemon run fast from out behind one of the computers. It stopped and sniffed the berry before starting to nibble on it.

Lan reached for his Pokeball to call out Vulpix but instead Professor Oak tossed a Pokeball hitting Pikachu. It trembled three times and a

<click> was heard.

"Professor, shouldn't you weaken it before you catch it ?"

"Not always Lan. There is always a higher chance if the Pokemon is happy, such as when it's eating food. There are also times where Pokemon will come with you on their validation."

"Oh yeah that happened to a Baltoy that Dad caught back in Hoenn"

"Now Lan what did you want to talk about? " He held up his hand "Wait a second. Mmmmm That's a unique backpack have I seen it before?"

"Um, I don't know about that professor. I bought it at Rover's Store in Viridian City."

"Oh, I know Rover he was a couple years older than me back in the day. He would always wanted a battle each time I saw him out on my Journey. He always lost."

"That should be his favorite backpack if I am not mistaken. Oh, I know what you want to talk about now. Do you want to go on your Journey?"

<sigh>

"I knew this day would come it is hard to find such a talented assistant. I have expected it for a while. I could have sponsored you as a starter trainer and given you your first Pokemon if you came to see me earlier."

Lan was stunned for a second and thought this was easier to address than what he expected. Lan then told the Professor about all the events that happened and the Pokemon that he had caught. He then released all of them.

Professor got down on his hands and knees and started studying them individually.

He then looked at Lan "For the short time that you have had your Pokemon they all look extremely healthy. This is a shiny Growlithe that is for sure. It is still above the Kanto standard in every way and still has a lot of room for growth. All your Pokemon are well cared for. Like you said the small Vulpix seems to be scared of us. It is sad that what happened but I have also seen that a couple of times when I traveled also."

" Well Professor now that is taken care of I had a couple of other things that I wanted to talk about because I wanted to leave tomorrow with all the other sponsored trainers."

"First I was going to see if you could update my Pokedex. It was great and had many functions but there were a couple of things that I suggest could be improved about it. 1) Not having it Speak every time you open it. 2) Have a function to save contacts so when we reach phones I have everyone's number 3) Store the moves that a certain pokemon can learn or have learned."

Oak interjected "Wait right there the first version of the Pokedex encompasses all of those things. Let me see your Dex.

Lan then handed him his Pokedex.

"Ohhh I know, you got the Dex that I made for myself before I added all the functions for the trainers that the League asked for. Yours has more abilities to help with research. This mostly includes making photos and videos to record observations. The current trainer Pokedex's doesn't have these things. Here let me update its software."

Lan nodded and continued "Also, Professor, I was thinking that I could help you fill-up the Pokedex while I travel. I am going to enter the Kanto Leauge and challenge the gyms while I travel.

I hoped that we could do a partnership of sorts. Something like I can catch varieties of Pokemon and find different items while you can help sponsor me or something." Lan was hesitant but still asked.

"Mmmmm" while stroking his chin that lacked a beard. Professor Oak continued to think for a minute before he spoke:

"Why don't we do this then? I will update your position in the lab to a 'Traveling Representative'. This means that you are technically a researcher that travels most of the time. I will give you a supply of Pokeballs through the use of a stipend.

This will allow you to carry 8 Pokemon at a time and give you constantly supplied with Pokeballs for your Journey. What I would need you to do then would to catch Pokemon that are not native to around the Lab. Then you will transfer them here to the Lab and instead of keeping the Pokemon under your name the Lab will send you money for them.

Let's just say an average of 300 Poke per a Pokemon that is all I could afford. If there is any Pokemon that you transfer back that you want to keep in your name just let me know and I will mark it like that. This way we can increase the Pokemon habitats around Lab so that there will be a larger diversity and our research means could increase. I always say the more Pokemon the better."

Lan was stunned "Wow, Professor, I don't know what to say. This is too generous. Wouldnt this cut heavily into your labs budget?"

"Ahh, it is not that bad at all this is not even worth a fraction of what some of the equipment that I had bought. Also, the potential of getting many new Pokemon and increase the Lab's Personal Pokemon will do nothing but help out the Lab in the future. The way that I see it there is nothing but benefits. But don't tell anyone about this deal because many people would be jealous."

Lan snickered "Yeah, I wouldn't blame them. I am excited also. I guess I will be leaving tomorrow so I will be sending you Pokemon soon. Gary and Ash are part of that new group right?

"Yeah, they both are but sadly I only have three official Kanto starters. I will have to help the last trainer one catch a Pokemon for a starter."

Lan nodded in understanding "Yeah well, I hope the kids arrive early. I won't say anything to anyone we will just have to see who will get which pokemon."

Oak "Lan, follow me and I will update your profile in the Kanto System. Just let your Pokemon run around outback.

Lan immediately nodded and led his Pokemon to the greenhouse. He let Horsea swim in the small pond while the others were left in the clearing.

Lan then met up with Professor Oak to update his Profile in the Region's Unified Trainer Database.

After his profile was updated he went to clear out his room of the Lab and took care of his Pokemon. He made some premade Pokefood for the road and went to bed because tomorrow he would officialy start his Journey.
