Pokemon: The Wandering Guardian

Chapter 28 - Training and Traveling

...

Lan was currently walking through the forest with Growlithe out front of him sniffing almost everything. Lan knew it was just Growlithe at his finest. He is always looking for different things to eat.

"He is just a hungry child" Lan muttered underneath his breath.

Vulpix who was by his side heard this and nodded with at "Vul-pix" as if she was agreeing with Lan. Lan smiled at this and reached down to pat Vulpix. She growled contently

Lan didn't want to stop in Viridian city tonight because he wanted to wait for that event and rumors to die down. He could be recognized easily but that really didn't matter to him he just wanted to avoid trouble. He had looked at the map and was planning on heading to Pewter City for the first gym.

Pewter City was a couple days away from Viridian so he wanted to make good time so that he could spend time exploring the city. He had heard that it was a huge mining town and wanted to see if there was anything interesting about it.

While pondering for a while Lan noticed that all of them had arrived at a clearing. It was similar to the lake area near Viridian that he caught Horsea at. The only difference was that the lake had a larger stream flowing into it by a waterfall. He decided it was a nice place to take a break.

He went to the water and called Horsea out. He then glanced at his three Pokemon. Two of them seemed a little tired while Horesa seemed hyperactive. He knew that Growlithe and Vulpix wanted a short break. Their travel had been increasing their stamina. Vulpix had less when compared to Growllite who has gotten used to Lan's training. From the time that he has captured Horsea, he really hasn't been able to battle using it. So he decided to do something about that to burn off all of his energy.

"Growlithe and Vulpix you have free time. Feel free to roam around and do whatever you want. Just don't cause trouble please but meet back here in an hour. The two nodded and the two of them trotted off in different directions.

<sigh>

Those two are really different from each other. Okay, Horsea we are going to battle some Pokemon to help you get stronger. I don't have a fishing rod because I returned it back to Rover. So I will be relying on you."

"Horsea" "Hor-sea" and Horsea went swiftly underwater

Lan smiled at the confirmation. He started to go through his things right now. He had about 15 empty Pokeballs in total if he wanted to catch some Pokemon so that he sent back to the lab. He then put 10 of them in his belts pocket.

Suddenly he heard splashing coming from the lake. He turned around and he could see two Pokemon fighting on the surface of the water. One was his Horsea the other looked like a fish with orange and white colors. He whipped out his Pokedex which recognized it as a Goldeen a goldfish Pokemon. It was one of the standard Kanto water pokemon but it was not nearly as common as Magicarp.

He looked at the battle it was an even match Horsea was swimming circles around its opponent. While its opponent was trying to ram it with its horn Horsea was dodging while countering by hitting Goldeens weak points with a water gun.

"A natural Battler it seems. He then stored a short clip on the Pokedex while he analyzed it. Let's see Horsea general information. Oh, that's surprising Horsea's, in general, have two main abilities, Swift Swim or Sniper. I don't know if he has Swift Swim because he is already fast in the water. It is also very accurate with its attacks. It looks like it most likely has the ability sniper.

Interesting this will help when we devise a plan. for the future. He then saw that Horsea was about to knock its opponent out. He said, " Horsea move it over here!"

Understanding it's master's instructions it started to herd its opponent near its master. Soon Lan tossed a Pokeball and hit the Goldeen. The ball rocked until it clicked.

"Awesome that was great Horsea. Nice, you are a natural."

Horsea neighed excitedly. "Horsea"

Lan nodded and handed it some food that he had made earlier. He then called out the Goldeen and treated it and gave it some food. It was easy to interact with so Lan didn't have any trouble befriending it. He was going to send it to Oak anyway. He might have to send Horsea back to the lab in the future so he might as well have Horsea befriend it so he could battle why he was not with Lan.

Lan then let the two Pokemon do their own thing.

Lan then laid down and took a nap.

...

Later Lan woke up to some noise. He opened his eyes and was met with a slender girl that was one or two years younger with orange hair that was wrapped up into a side ponytail. He rubbed his eyes again. He could see her lips moving but couldn't hear anything.

Lan raised his hand signaling her to stop her from talking for a second.

He then nodded and said "sorry can you repeat that" while he rubbed the back of his head. His hearing cleared up and he could hear her say:

"I was just wondering if you are all right your Pokemon were trying to wake you up and you weren't budging"

Lan yawned and replied, " Thank you, I must have fell asleep for a while." He then looked around and saw Growlithe, Vulpix next to him while he saw Goldeen in the water but no Horsea.

"No problem I was just passing by on my bike. I was going to try to find a good fishing spot."

Lan nodded while saying " Yeah this place is pretty good there is a platform rock over there if you want to fish. I caught that one earlier pointing to Goldeen.

The girl smiled and nodded and seemed eager to catch some Pokemon.

Lan smiled and said, " Thanks again I think I'll be on my way." He then returned all of his Pokemon. He then walked to the water and spotted Horsea curled his tail on a long piece of grass and was asleep underwater. Lan smiled and returned him since it was just shallow water.

Lan then felt the humidity and looked at the clear blue sky. He then turned to the girl and said " Thanks again, you might want to be careful It might rain a little later" after saying his piece he grabbed his bag and headed towards the north.

Once he left the young girl looked the direction he left and looked at the sky "It is going to rain? It is clear out without a cloud in sight. Weirdo. Now its time for me to catch some Pokemon to become a Water Pokemon Master !"

She yelled the last part and pumped her arm. She looked around embarrassed to see if anyone was there to see her. She sighed out of relief when she saw there was no one around.
