Project Overworld

Chapter 14 - Mobility

A sleepy-headed student let out a long yawn.

Since a few days ago, when the war appended between the Pioneers and the New Dawn guilds, Keith stayed connected most of his time to develop faster.

He felt that his situation was precarious, and his work could be reduced to nothing at any moment. In fact, the New Dawn's members were already preparing for another war and there was no doubt that the Pioneers were doing the same on their side.

Amber had yet to come and ask him for more weapons, but he knew it would not be long before she would pay him a visit.

At that point, unfortunately, she may ask for a lot of them. Only a small portion of their members were currently equipped with rifles.

Keith could not spend that much time working on firearms, thus he decided to prepare and leave this place. That is why, he started spending more time into the game in order to manufacture a strong vehicle that could transport him and his generator, as well as his most valuable resources.

Though, he was now attending a course at the university and the lack of sleep made him absent-minded.

It was not as if his presence was required, he could skip the entire course by staying at home.

However, Keith was thinking about his future above all else. He could not fathom missing a knowledge that could help him get a degree.

At the end of the week, Keith dove into Project Overworld with the intent of moving towards a location free from any other players.

It was possible because the planet inside the game was around the same size as the Earth, but shared by only several thousand players.

At this point, it was highly possible everyone stayed within a few miles from the world spawnpoint.

Even if someone ventured further away, it was almost impossible for Keith to cross their path.

In the past few days, Keith worked on a design of a vehicle.

The wheels and the overall structure were designed fast, as his knowledge on the subject was sufficient and a few tutorials on the internet helped him for the most complex parts.

The problem laid in the materials and resources he had access to. He did not have access to petrol so his design needed to work with steam like his generator worked.

Of course, the speed of the vehicle would not reach more than a dozen miles per second or so with all the stuff Keith was going to store onto it.

Nonetheless, it would be enough for its purpose, and Keith was happily working on the various parts he had designed.

Near the end of the day, Amber visited him as he was expecting.

'What the hell...' She thought when she entered the cave.

She was dumbfounded, everything looked to be made out of metal and the whole place gave off an intimidating aura. Various machineries were being used by Keith as he was working hard on another of his projects.

The latter came to give her a greeting, not surprised in the slightest by her apparition.

- "Hi, how may I help you?"

- "Erm... Oh yeah, I came here to order more rifles and canons."

- "The thing is I'm a bit busy as you can see."

'Huh? Did he reject my demand just like that?'

- "I'm well aware of the contract clauses, but can we postpone the order by a few days?"

- "That is... I am not in the right to decide that. You'd have to talk to Alan directly if you wanted to change something related to the contract."

- "Yeah, that was to be expected. Tell Alan I will come visit him tomorrow morning."

"Are you for real..?" After seeing his dead serious face, Amber said : "Well then, see you tomorrow."

- "Yeah, later."

After that, Keith continued working on his vehicle while Amber returned to the New Dawn's center, puzzled.

A few minutes later, she arrived in front of Alan's office inside the New Dawn's main building.

After telling him about Keith, Alan's eyebrows furrowed.

- "What is he thinking, is he opposing us?"

- "It doesn't look like that, he wouldn't make the trip all the way here otherwise."

After thinking about it for a few seconds, Alan answered :

- "Hmpf, we'll enslave him anyway if we can't get into an agreement."

On that note, both of them returned to their work. They were also pretty busy lately because of the Pioneers threat.

'I should think about how I will get rid of the resources and machines left inside the cave.'

Keith was preparing for the imminent relocation and the question of what resources he would take or not imposed to him.

He was thinking about letting the things he did not want to the New Dawn guild, if they proved worthy of his trust that is.

That is one the reasons he wanted to visit the guild's chief the next day.

'Anyway, my vehicle isn't finished yet, let's get back to work.'
