Chapter 13 - Guild battle

Keith especially made sure he would never get involved into the guild's whereabouts, that is why he did not accept to join them and instead made a commercial treaty with Amber.

Now that the war was at their doorstep, he could only rejoice from being this foreseeing.

Hence, Keith totally ignored the commotion created by the revelation the scout gave and he climbed up one of the mountains. After reaching the top, he sat down, waiting for the show to begin.

He wanted a good sight out of the confrontation of the two guilds that will be taking place between the mountain ranges.

He was not afraid of the results of this war. At this point in time, the firearms and the other ranged weapons he produced were unparalleled.

Moreover, he had to admit that New Dawn did a great job with that stone wall they erected.

A two-thousand-big-army equipped with only swords and spears could not even dream of breaking through the wall.

Though, the Pioneers guild might have a chance of successfully invading New Dawn's territory.

If the big army had the idea of using the corpses of the fallen to climb up the wall, their numbers would overwhelm the small guild and they eradicate of their members.

Only, Keith could not fathom a how a freshly created player's guild, of which members where total strangers not so long ago, could come up with such a strategy.

It was a thing you only see in fantasy novels, and players would normally not get this sort of ideas.

In fact, Keith even wondered if the Pioneers had come up with the slightest hint of a strategy when preparing for this war. Hell, they might not even have any clues concerning the big wall that was build during the past few days.

That was why, Keith was not concerned at all about this invasion.

However, he wanted to observe the development of the situation here, as it would dictate how the future would be uncovered.

The Pioneers, experiencing defeat, might start to develop mass siege weapons and they would come up with even more ranged weapons.

The New Dawn's members, realizing their victory did not mean the end of the war, would surely try to fortify their position more.

History proved it, war boosted weapons' technology more than any other period in time.

As for himself, Keith already started to prepare to such eventualities.

After developing automation, he was certain nobody could catch up to him.

Thus, he patiently waited for the Pioneers' army to show up.

Finally, after several long hours, a large mass of players appeared in the distance.

Keith had to admit it was intimidating, to say the least.

More than two thousand players were gathered in the same place, all wearing some sort of weapons.

Those weapons ranged from simple rocks to complete stone swords, or even metal ones.

Some shining armors even caught the sight of Keith. Unfortunately for them, armors were useless against bullets.

They were marching in a haphazard fashion, but towards the same objective.

Keith turned his head towards the New Dawn's base, seeking for their reactions.

A few hundred players already climbed on top of the wall, charging their bow and their guns for a portion of them.

Keith did not notice up until now, but he caught sight of the canons and the ballista he created on the wall.

At a mile of distance, the big army stopped and he saw what seemed to be the leader walk before his army to give them courage.

After several seconds of speech, the leader and its army started running towards the wall.

Some even shouted their best war cries, mimicking their favorite characters of fantasy stories.

Keith chuckled from his position, and he positioned himself comfortably.

A few arrows were shot from the wall, hitting some of their enemies. Rifles were not yet fired, surely to save the bullets.

Some arrows were also shot from the Pioneers' side, but they could not find any target.

Players were still not accustomed to shooting arrows in this game, and the configuration of the landscape as well as the fact players were hiding on top of the wall made it even more difficult.

Unfortunately, it was not long before causalities appeared on in the New Dawn's army. They could respawn in the base, but they had to wait a few minutes to do so.

However, when the Pioneers' army was only at a few hundred meters apart from the wall, deafening noises were heard coming from the wall.

The canons and rifles were all shots altogether, and dozens of players met their end at the same instant.

The big army suddenly stopped, players hesitating on what to do next.

Their leader continued charging forward, and the army regained its spirit until he was shot in turn.

From now on, everything became confused.

Players charged disorderly and lots of them died by some projectiles.

In just a few minutes, more than three hundred people died.

However, the numbers of the big army were simply too much and they finally got close to the wall. Some wood piles were launched from the top and even more players were killed.

Now that they were all gathered at the bottom to the stone wall, players wondered what to do next.

They finally realized they could not do anything to the wall, and the confusion became worse in their ranks.

Some smart ones started piling up the corpses to lead the way to the rest, but their action met disillusion.

In fact, most of them got shot in turn, and very few people followed their lead.

However, the damage was done and soon players from the Pioneers' side started gathering corpses.

At this point, half of the army ran away and several hundred players died by the hand of the New Dawn's members.

People were not running away because they were afraid, in fact they would not lose much upon death.

Of course, they would lose all of what they carried in their inventory and on themselves, but it was not detrimental to a big guild like Pioneers.

No, they were running away because they thought their assault was useless. They realized they were technologically outclassed, and they had no way to break the wall.

What was remaining of the Pioneers' army couldn't do much. They were not sufficient to pile up corpses to the top of the wall. Moreover, New Dawn's members started throwing torches all over the corpses.

The result was awkward, as there was not much of inflammable matters on them. However, after a few dozen minutes, torches finally caught fire to some wooden swords and the heat generated by all those small fires started getting out of hand.

More member of the Pioneers guild started running away, and the outcome of the battle was now obvious.

Several hundred tenacious ones continued piling up corpses but, with their remaining numbers, even if they did manage to climb up the wall they would not be able to do much.

Keith rose up from his spot, getting a last glance out of the situation before going down the mountain.

"Let's go, I have constructions to finish and several projects waiting for me to develop. I have no time to lose now that the situation is done here." he said, speaking to himself.
