Project Overworld

Chapter 22 - Navigation

After working hard for the whole day, Keith decided to take a break. He climbed up a large rock and sat down on top of it, his feets swaying in the air.

His gaze turned towards the ocean, and he let his mind drift away.

Since he decided to create a boat, Keith as been working diligentely whenever he had spare time.

He established an open temporary base with workbenches and also installed his automated drills on various locations to gather resources while he was building.

The whole operation has been running for weeks, but he was finally seeing the end of the tunnel.

He made the structure of the ship using wood and metal, while he was using fabric he refined using plants for the masts.

The sensor detecting deltas in the boat's position was also progressing well, and he was almost ready to step away from this land.

Keith estimated that he could finish the build within a week.

'It's only been three month and an half since the start of the game, and here I am, thinking of exiling myself in faraway lands.'

The salty smell of the ocean and the soft sound of the waves crashing on the coast was slowly lulling him.

He let out a yawn.

'Mh? I guess that's all for today, let's have a soundy sleep.'

He disconnected from the game and took a shower before going to bed.

A week later, Keith was finally finished with his work. It was a large boat that could potentially fit all the resources and machines he took with him.

Although the boat was still accosted, he was almost certain that it would float perfectly once in the water.

'I've put so much effort in it that it woud better work properly.'

The only component he was not sure of was the position sensor.

Unfortunately, he did not have time to test it thoroughly since he only finished it the day before, but it was not of the upmost priority.

For the time being, he wanted to give the build a try and get the hang of piloting it.

After pushing the boat along the tracks he built it onto, he climbed the ladder on his side and started hoisting the sail.

The structure slowly took pace while drifting through the surface of the water.

Keith started turning the navigation bar to both side while watching over the masts. Everything was moving according to plan and he was feeling like a kid wanting to play with his new toy.

A grin appeared on his face while he was thinking : 'Isn't that too cool? An entire boat that I can control by myself... It's like a dream I never though of.'

After several hours of testing his boat, Keith loaded all the resources he left on shore as well as a few machines to check if it could bear the weight.

Another round of testing later, he embarked the last machines, including the drills, onto the boat and drifted off towards the infinity of the ocean.

'Well, I guess it's time to go. Farewell civilization, farewell my problems. I'm now alone and free from other player's influence. May you all find peace and advance as a whole.'

Although he did not believe in these last words, he was really happy of what he went throught until now. Every experience was a great opportunity to him.

Even his collaboration with the New Dawn guild proved to be useful. He gained their protection as well as various resources, boosting his ingeniosity and pace at producing things.

Thus, his journey continued, but this time on a totally different kind of landscape from what he used to travel through.

It was really peaceful, only him and the vaste ocean. Sometimes a dark form could be seen through the surface of the water, but Keith could let the boat move forward while doing other tasks.

During the meantime, he had tested and improved his sensor.

It was now connected to the engines and adding power were it was needed as well as controlling the masts.

When he was inside the game however, he loved taking control of the boat and dock to the very few island he came across with.

One day, he accosted a tropical island that he found beautiful.

Various animal species m.a.t.u.r.ed in a very dense vegetation. Monkeys, birds, and even snakes froliced between the trees.

He explored the piece of land for several hours before climbing back onto his vessel.

Although he loved exploring this magnificent landscape, he did not want to establish here.

The size of the island was too small for all the project he had in mind, and it was also too close to the continent he spawned into.

Unfortunately, after estimating the distance he traveled since the beginning, it would only equate to one thousand mile at most. Compared to the circ.u.mference of the planet of around twenty-five thousand miles, it was not even close to half of that amount.

That was why, he resumed his journey to find a suitable place ten thousand miles away.
