Project Overworld

Chapter 25 - World tour

Keith, who only looked at a small amount of pictures online about the spawn situation, was surprised of discovering it through his phone's news feed.

Some channels must have deemed the topic worthy of a report and Keith was now witnessing the full extent of what players had built around the world spawnpoint.

'It looks like a medieval city', was the first thought that crossed his mind after having seen the wooden buildings shown on screen.

In fact, the comparison did not end there. Weather was also part of the game, and wood was not the best insulator. Thus, all the houses had a roof made out of thatch.

'Did these uncivilized barbarians actually made this? I should visit spawn some time in the future.'

The report continued showing off the human-made constructions while Keith was preparing to go to the university.

'Well, I'll watch this when I get back home. For now, I have to focus on my studies.'

After a long day of work, Keith finally connected to Project Overworld.

Over the last few days, Keith had finished the foundations of his base.

In the meantime, he also completed his second generator, which was more efficient than the first and finished working on a fully operational computer.

It was a square of only two feet by two, but showed better performances than the calculator nonetheless.

As for his future plans, he still had lots to do in his base. He had to create various electrical devices to make it the best place to work into as well as putting effort into its decorations.

After all, the aesthetics of his home was also important for his personal satisfaction and his motivation.

He was not in a rush to do that, however, and also had other plans at the moment.

After watching the video about the spawn city, he had a strong urge to visit it personally.

Thus, he was now preparing for his incoming departure towards the main continent.

However, he could not find a way to travel there without risks.

In fact, he had to cross the ocean first and that would leave his boat exposed if he accosted too close to the world spawnpoint.

Thus, he had to dock his ship several tens of miles away from there and continue the rest with a terrestrial vehicle. However, that would be a problem too. Even if he never crossed way with anyone, he would still have to find a way to hide his vehicle so nobody would discover it by accident.

He had though of some solutions for that matter. First, he needed to make a small motorized vehicle that could be hidden easily. Secondly, he would need to make some sort of a wooden bicycle that he could take with him in the city.

Of course, he would draw attention as this type of vehicle was not widespread around the spawn city, but he would not mind losing it to some thief.

That was how he prepared to make a tour around the world spawnpoint and visit everything players had made up until now.

It took him over a week to design and complete a small car and a bicycle.

Keith also created a small wooden boat that would take him to the continent. With that, he could leave his ship a few miles away from the continent and from everyone's eyes.

He then proceeded to load the ship with his creations and a few rations for the journey.

He made sure everything was working as intended in his base and ran a basic program on his computer that constantly checked data sent to him so that it could stop any machine that was overloading.

Finally, he returned to his boat after only a few weeks and started off the engines.

He then proceeded to weigh anchor and placed himself at the stem of the ship, his favorite spot.

He could freely enjoy the breeze coming from the ocean while making sure the weather was auspicious for his travel.

During his first travel, he made a map tracing all the islands he came across with and their approximate coordinates. He may have missed some because he was not connected all the time, but he knew the way he took to come over this continent was safe. Thus, he turned the ship's wheel towards this general direction and let the engines do the rest of the work.

'I didn't think I would set sail this quickly after finding this promised land', he thought.

However, he wanted to witness by his own eyes the peaceful city that took place at spawn. He could not believe people stopped fighting after several months of war.

'Well, it was an obvious result. War was not that interesting of a thing to do in a game where only the imagination was the limit. The thing that surprise me the most, however, is that this war seems to have ended without any winner whatsoever. The new players pressured the existing guilds enough for them to surrender immediately.'

He was very pleased that these new players did not want to take part in some conflict right off the bat and eased the situation at the spawn.

With all these thoughts in mind, Keith pursued his journey towards the first continent he established onto.

It only took him over a week and a half before returning to the main continent. In fact, since he knew there was no danger ahead, he did not slow the ship down before disconnecting and it fastened the journey immensely.

Through his lenses, he estimated the distance towards the land and stopped the vehicle in the middle of the ocean.

Now the tricky part would be to load the small boat with the car and bicycly.

Though, the terrestrial vehicle was made of disassembled parts for the purpose.

He already tested the boat before going on the journey to make sure it would not sink because of the weight.

The small boat was already on water, attached to the back of the ship. Thus, after loading it with the car parts and the bicycle, he set off to the continent.

However the few remaining miles took several hours of paddling because the boat was not equipped with an engine.

On land, he had to disassemble the boat to make sure no one would use it to go to his main ship. He then transported by hand, and also thanks to his inventory, the various parts to a nearby cave before disconnecting.

The next day, he assembled the car and attached the bicycle on its roof.

He was finally ready to drive all the way to the spawn city, also called Midgard.

A sudden thought crossed his mind as he chuckled : 'With all this time travelling through water, couldn't I have made an actual world tour? Well, maybe not but it would be a nice thing to experience someday.'
