Queen Of Adis

Chapter 100 - For the first time

"Are you kidding me?" Adis asked in a dangerously calm manner. However, he didn't wait for Haru's reply and continued, "Yeah, I knew you're just kidding me. 'Cause there's no f.u.c.kin' way that you're going to leave me again just to help that bastard, right?"

"Adis, it's not about him--"

"Right?" He insisted, ignoring her attempt to explain. His eyes became fierce and he had a look that would not accept any form of objection. He gripped her shoulders and dug his fingers on her flesh.

"Tell me that I am right." He slowly uttered every word through his clenched teeth, wishing that she would relieve his insecurities.

She gulped as her breath seemed to have stuck in her throat. She knew that her husband was vicious, but it was the first time that Adis talked to her like he wanted to eat her head off.

Her knees trembled and almost buckled if not for his painful grip on her shoulder. For the first time, she was feeling scared of him. Nevertheless, she stood her ground. She gotta do what she gotta do.

She gently shook her head while her eyes welled up in tears. "I'm sorry, Adis, but... I have to do this."

Ear-deafening silence enveloped their bedchamber but Haru knew it was just the deceitful calm before the tempest.

He let go of her shoulders, leaving his imprint on her skin. He rigidly took a couple of steps back while his face was filled with disbelief. Then, as though someone had stabbed his heart a thousand times, his face slowly twisted in pain.

"Haru, why don't you just kill me?" Adis shook his head as he started in a faint voice.

It was as though his heart would break at any minute, or perhaps... it already did the moment she had gone to the past and left him without any word.

"Does it really make you happy when I'm worried as f.u.c.k? When you wish to risk your life for this pregnancy, I let it go. When your heart chose to go to the past and leave me, I let it go." There was a catch in his voice, rendering him to pause.

He placed his hand on the side table, desperately trying to calm his nerves and keep his face stern.

However, something seemed to snap in him as he unceremoniously flung the table to the wall and gave out a thundering roar. "HELL, WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!"

"Is saving that Pier more important than me? Do you honestly think that he's worth all my pain? And yes, I am ordering you to choose between me or him. Should you choose him, then you can go sleep for eternity for all I f.u.c.k.i.n.g care!"

He punched the wall nearby, creating long cracks and a huge dent before he walked out and slammed the door behind him.

Haru was stupefied as she watched her husband flipped out on her for the very first time. When she recovered, she blinked back her tears and unknowingly c.a.r.e.s.sed her baby bump. She sobbed, "Little devil, I think mommy really angered your father this time. What should I do now?"

******************************

Adis chugged down the hard liquor directly from its bottle, totally unaffected by the burning sensation it created in his stomach. Ah, it had been a while since his lips tasted alcohol. If anything, he never thought that he would seek consolation from alcohol ever again.

But he couldn't help it. He needed something to soothe the indescribable pain he was feeling. Just a moment ago he was in heaven, then he suddenly fell at the bottom-most layer of hell the next minute.

'I'm sorry... Adis'

Haru's words rang into his mind again and again, creating cracks and holes on his heart and soul. With a choking heaviness in his throat, he whimpered, "Why, Haru? How could you do this to me? Am I not enough?"

He unconsciously gripped the thick glass bottle tightly, causing it to shatter into tiny pieces. He watched as if the shards were the pieces of his heart, slowly falling right there on the ground.

He didn't notice that he already reached his study room in his drunken stupor. He staggered towards the chaise lounge inside and as he laid down, he covered his eyes with his arms.

After a while of heartbreaking silence, he stiffened as a cup of freshly brewed coffee was gently placed on the table beside him. He lifted his arm and turned his head sideways. His eyes burned with complicated emotions upon the sight of delicate fingers nervously tapping on the table.

"Uhm... they said that coffee will help you sober up." Haru cleared her throat and awkwardly started. She looked at her husband with a puppy look face.

"Alcohol is good. It numbs whatever pain I'm feeling," he monotonously retorted. "I'm surprised you're still awake. I thought you went gone back to la-la land as you were very eager to help your 'friend.'" He spat the last word as though it was a bitter poison in his mouth.

She sighed heavily before she knelt beside him, took one of his calloused hands and kneaded it. When he tried to retract his hand, she held it firmly and stubbornly went on with the unsolicited massage.

"It's because you didn't listen to my explanation that's why you're being like this. At least allow me to defend myself before you even judge me." She pouted like a child and spoke in an aggrieved tone, trying to appease him with her beguiling act.

He didn't respond, but the clenching of his jaw told her that she just made the situation worse. She grimaced and looked at him with eyes filled with guilt.

"Adis, look at me," she swayed his arm gently as she coaxed him. "Please?"

When he didn't move from his stiff position, she sighed and suddenly shoved her body on top of him.

Adis' eyes grew wide and his sinewy arms reflexively wrapped around her h.i.p.s and torso. "Are you out of your mind? That's dangerous! What if you fell? Did you forget that you pregnant?!"

His heart was in overdrive and any spirit of alcohol immediately left his body by her unexpected stunt. Fortunately, he laid stiff on the lounge, otherwise, she would have fallen from his little movement.

"Seriously, Haru, you will definitely cause the end of my immortal life." He reprimanded but he adjusted her body so she'd be comfortable while laying on top of him.

She sobbed against his c.h.e.s.t while wiping her tears with the back of her hand. "So you still know how to care about me? I thought you no longer care? And you've been shouting at me since earlier. You're such a bully!"

"So it's my fault now? Are you trying to pick a fight with me again or what?" He grunted, yet his hand was gently stroking her hair and back to hush her crying. "What a cheat! You know I'm weak to your tears."

"Please don't bully Haru, anymore. I know it's my fault, but please listen to my explanation. If you keep being cranky I won't stop crying." Haru demanded in between her sobs.

Adis didn't know whether to laugh, cry or stay mad due to her threat. But since her sobs were getting worse, he finally relented. Without any word, he tightened his embrace and kissed her hair, silently giving her the chance to speak as she wished.

"I am going back to the past, not because I want to help Pier, but because I want to stop him from whatever he was trying to summon." Haru started off while rubbing her tear-stained face on his c.h.e.s.t.

The combined scent of sandalwood, alcohol, and his manly smell were giving her a calm feeling and enveloping her body with warmth.

"I think that the ritual circle was something very important and I'm sure I saw it before. I've been racking my brains that night but I still couldn't remember where and when. Perhaps, that was the trigger why I suddenly traveled through time. My gut feeling is telling me that if we won't stop Pier from completing that ritual, it'll be too late."

He creased his forehead when things were getting clearer to him. "You mean... you didn't go to the past because your heart was unconsciously yearning to help Pier?"

"Of course not!" She vehemently denied as she pulled herself up and straddled on him. "You said it yourself, he was no longer the friend I once knew. My vision was only connected to him since the ritual circle was his doing."
