Queen Of Adis

Chapter 20 - Black hole

The citizens gasped in shock. Everyone knew that the King of Umbra was against the ceremony, but they didn't expect that he would blatantly embarrass the fair maiden in front of the crowd.

Helena's knees buckled and she broke down on the stage. Today, she must act to her utmost to get everyone's attention so her accomplices could execute their tasks. With such a pleasing appearance, the crowd's heart felt sorry for her.

One of the elders scowled and spoke in his gruff voice. "With all due respect, Your Majesty, if you claim that she is fake, then why did you come to this event?"

"Two reasons," Adis started. "One, my Queen's duty as a spring maiden is to witness this nonsense, therefore, I have to accompany her. Two, I want to witness how you, stupid weaklings, will embarrass yourselves." He nonchalantly admitted.

Haru just squirmed in her seat, totally baffled at the sudden turn of event.

Helena elevated her act by speaking to the crowd. "Citizens of Trium Regum, it's okay, I can still bless the land and guide you all to prosperity even without the reward from the great Kings. Living for the citizens of this world is my true calling. I am just saddened that the King of Umbra, whom I admire so greatly, hate me this much," she sobbed. She looked like she was trying her best to prevent her tears from falling which earned the citizen's affection.

Damien's expression softened as he approached Helena and was about to speak again, but his voice was swallowed by an earth-shattering explosion.

BOOM!

The ground shook and cracked due to the powerful blast. A huge dark smoke that shaped like a mushroom was seen from afar and a strong gust of wind with debris sent the people flying.

The explosion happened at the Lumine Port which was still a bit far from the Central Plaza, but everyone felt the effect as if it was just right by their side.

Haru instinctively stood up with a horrified expression. Explosion? Was this another nightmare? She unconsciously reached out for Adis while her eyes were fixed on the black smoke.

Adis immediately held her trembling hands, determined not to let go. He glared at his younger siblings and muttered in a low voice, "I thought you have everything under control? What the f.u.c.k is this?"

"B-big brother, we thought so too. I honestly d-don't know what's going on," Zen stuttered.

All the royal knights, Grim Reapers and the Elders' warriors, the *Valkyries, surrounded the stage.

"Aaahhh! What's this? Help me!"

A blood-curdling screech was heard out of nowhere and the beings on the stage shifted their attention to it. A huge black hole suddenly appeared on the ground and hundreds of dark slimes were going out from it. Each slime spat dark acid which corroded one's flesh.

Pandemonium ensued, screams and wails could be heard everywhere. The citizens who wanted to save their lives came rushing to the stage upon seeing that the security there was tight. Then, a huge wave of stampede came next.

The Kings' loyal aides formed multiple layers of barrier around the Royal family to ensure that the citizens would not touch them. It would have been easier to annihilate them for the sake of their masters' security, but they couldn't do it under the Queen's careful watch.

Haru's eyes widened when she saw a child fell down from running fast and was about to be crushed by the panic footsteps.

"Stop! Look out!" She yelled.

The child was suddenly enveloped with a water barrier. Luckily, Aquarius cast the spell on time to prevent any further casualty.

Zen, on the other hand, whistled loudly to call out one of his winged horses. He directed the horse to go on top of the black hole to attempt on closing it. He chanted different powerful spells and surrounded the hole with multiple magic circles.

The warriors and soldiers of the three realms fought against the black slimes. They noticed that whenever they use physical attacks, the slimes would just split and reproduce.

"Don't use physical attacks, it won't work on them," General Graves yelled out. "Those adept in offensive magic, step forward. Those who don't, step back and assist in the protection barriers."

The fight with the dark slimes was taking a while not because they were powerful but because they were endless. The black hole kept on growing bigger and bringing forth more of those abominations.

Aquarius called out another winged horse and flew up to help Zen on closing the hole. Adis calmly threw his commands to the three aides.

"You three, lead the citizens to evacuation camps. Prioritize the children and the elderly. Bring some Reapers to take care of the slimes on the way."

Fang immediately objected. "Your Majesty, please forgive me, but I refuse to leave your side. Isaiah and Eva can take care of those tasks but--"

"Bring these honorable guests, especially this fool woman, into safety." Adis cut his words off and snarled at him. His eyes reflected his true intention. 'Guard Helena and all her accomplices and find out the location of their mastermind.'

Fang gulped then nodded unwillingly. "I-I... This aide shall do as you d.e.s.i.r.e, Your Majesty." He bowed deeply after contemplating for a bit, then started to move swiftly.

The Valkyries were only loyal to the Elders and refused to help the citizens. No one was left behind when all the Elders ran towards the evacuation camps.

Once the crowd was gone, Adis and the others could move much freely without worrying about hitting a civilian with their magic.

All of a sudden, a wave of black slimes approached Haru and Adis but Triton appeared and slashed the wave in half. He swung his heavy lance around, creating a tide of water and hit multiple enemies around them. He looked at Haru and shouted, "Hey, you brat, go and hide somewhere safe. The men will take care of cleaning up."

"B-but, I want to help!" She stomped her foot in frustration. She's always left out when it comes to exciting things.

"What help? There's nothing you can do here with your weak body. Adis can't move easily." Triton stated while hacking and smashing the enemies around them.

"No!" Adis objected vehemently as he cast dark lightning current, creating a long trail of burnt ground and dark goo. "The safest place is to stay with me. She can't leave my side."

"What about your brothers, you idiot. Their royal asses are being swarmed by hundreds of enemies while trying to close that hole. You have to help them, too."

"They can take care of themselves." He said sternly, but his eyes were filled with anxiety. In this lifetime, Adis only cared about his wife and his two brothers, and Haru knew that very well.

Haru understood the severity of the situation and she refused to be a damsel in distress forever. With resolute eyes, she finally said, "Adis, I am going back to the Light Palace and wait for you there. Go help Zen and Aquarius and bring them back to the palace."

Adis snapped his head at her and fiercely said, "You can't leave my side right now. If you insist and something happens to you, I will flatten this entire world, Haru."

"I will ask old man Triton to bring me there. I'm sure I'll be able to see my maids or some of the Reapers along the way. I will bring them with me too as additional security. As King, there are a lot of things you must do in this chaos. And as your Queen, I will not allow you to close your eyes from your duty." Haru declared with utmost conviction.

Adis contemplated for a while before he reached for her cheeks and gave her a hard punishing kiss. He only let her go when she's almost out of breath. "You must keep yourself safe no matter what happens. Go run straight to the palace and don't you dare be heroic and save other souls. 30 minutes, that's all I need to clean this mess. If I return to the palace and you're still not there, I swear I will punish all the humans you love so much. Do you understand?" He seethed, unwilling to let her go.

"Yes, Haru will behave and will wait for you in the Palace." She strongly nodded her head to emphasize her obedience.

Adis fiercely looked into her enchanting amber orbs as his hand firmly held her head. He emotionally whispered, "Wait for me, okay? I love you." He kissed her forehead then turned around to face Triton. "General, I am entrusting 'my life' to you. Please keep her safe."

"Idiot, she's my daughter-in-law, no need to tell me that. Hurry and help those useless brothers of yours." Triton brandished his lance to create a pathway for Adis. When Adis started to run forward, he added, "Hey, kiddo, don't spill too much blood. Be considerate to the cleaners later!"

"Hmph," Adis just scoffed and rode the remaining winged horse.

"Let's go brat, we need to hurry to the Palace. These abominations just keep on coming back." Triton said when he saw the glob of dark slime he just slashed healed itself and multiplied.

Haru nodded and followed the merman's lead.

But after a while of running and dodging the enemies, Haru noticed that instead of getting closer to the Light Palace, they were getting farther away from it. She stopped in her tracks and tried to catch her breath.

"Old man, I don't think this is the right way. Your old age must have muddled your memories and now we're lost," she panted heavily. Running around in a long dress and high-heeled shoes was bloody difficult for her. She could feel pain at the back of her ankles due to blisters.

"Lost? I don't think so. If anything, we have finally arrived at our destination." The old man said in a low but malevolent voice.

"Huh?" Haru's eyes narrowed as he looked at the merman's back. 'Did his voice suddenly changed?' She thought cautiously.

Then, on her peripheral vision, she saw a male satyr came out from a dilapidated building from the side. The satyr was wearing a malicious grin on his face.

Haru instinctively stepped back. Every cell in her body was ringing in alarm. Her heart started to beat erratically while she felt a huge lump in her throat. She was now in a state of panic but she refused to show it on her face and movement.

She calmly asked, "Old man, what is the meaning of this?"
