Queen Of Adis

Chapter 24 - The forbidden act

Explosions were happening from different places and rubbles were piling as Haru kept on attacking the magic circles around her with her wood element. She realized that Alastair's magic circles were weak against any magic arts and if she attacked it at the same time, the caster would be torn between repairing the circles or protecting himself.

Haru took advantage of this realization and utilized her wood ability. From the ground, several massive roots and vines burst out and pierced through the magic circles, causing powerful explosions upon impact.

However, just like her stamina, the mana that she needed to cast magic was also limited. And she blamed her weak discipline for it. She had various lessons about magic spells but it was so boring she always ended up running away or hiding in Adis' office.

At the third strike of her all-out attack, her limbs were already trembling and about to give in. She coughed out a mouthful of blood and she had a nose bleed. She was running out of both stamina and mana. She needed to end this or else she would pass out.

The attacks she did, though hardly inflicted a dent to Alastair's barrier, was enough to cause disturbance on his illusion outside of the barrier. The Grim Reapers who finally arrived in the area and scouting the place saw the short glimpse of that disruption and surrounded it.

The Grim Reapers tried to break the illusion with there magic, but even with their combined forces they still couldn't do it.

"Ah, it seems like your rescuers have finally arrived. However, no one could break my barrier. Not even your dearest King. Hahaha, you look like your about to pass out. Just give up already." Alastair derided her while he was about to finish fixing the magic circles that she broke.

"Hmph! Not tired enough to make you bleed, though," she rebutted.

Haru inhaled heavily as she clenched her trembling fists. It's all or nothing now.

For the last time, she called upon her roots and vines and commanded them to attack in different directions. As it pierced through its target one by one, she also moved her body at lightning speed. She stepped closer to Alastair and started to throw small punches to provoke him.

"Eh? So you still have strength left or just being suicidal now?" Alastair said while keeping his body in motion to dodge her punches. He was a bit distracted whether he would use his time magic to freeze her attacks or fix the magic circles again to prevent the invaders from getting in.

Haru directed one of her roots to target Alastair. He was caught off guard and tried to deflect the incoming attack, but that where she hurled a jab-cross. As it landed on his face and cracked his nose bridge, she suddenly turned her back to him and spun her fist backward to her target, landing a spinning back fist on his jaw with a staggering force from the momentum.

Alastair rolled and shook on the ground from the impact. He wheezed and coughed from the pain.

That was the last of Haru's strength. Her vision became blurred as she coughed another mouthful of blood.

"RAWRRR!"

An ear-deafening roar from her back jolted Haru from almost passing out. Before she could even turn around, ripped arms suddenly attacked her from behind and gripped her neck with his deadly chokehold.

At long last, Ulric escaped from the iron-grip of her roots and vines. And now that he's free, he would now go for a kill.

"Die, you bitch!"

Haru, having no amount of strength left in her limbs, was slowly running out of breath. Her complexion was turning from red, blue then red again. Her pupils dilated as she saw her two lifetimes flashed before her eyes.

Was she really meant to have a short life? But what about her Adis? He would definitely wreak havoc again. No, she couldn't die yet. She still wanted to give birth to Adis' child. Besides, she hadn't shown him yet how much she really loved him.

As though she was hallucinating, she saw wisps of black smoke forming in front of her. With great difficulty, she lifted her arm to reach for it. At hair's breadth away from the black smoke, her arms stopped as the lights in her amber eyes were slowly flickering out.

As her eyelids became heavy and gradually closing, she called out her beloved's name for the very last time.

"A-Adis..."

Before her hand touched the ground, a cold thing suddenly touched it.

From the wisps of black smoke, Adis finally appeared and caught her weak but still warm hand.

Using his other free hand, Adis moved in a flash and gripped Ulric's head. His eyes were vicious as he effortlessly tore the villain's head off from his massive neck and powerful wind blades chopped his entire body into pieces. Blood literally rained around the couple as it spurted out from Ulric's huge body.

Adis embraced Haru's entire body and with a worried expression, he checked her pulse. He was relieved to find out that it was still beating, though very weak.

"Haru, I'm here," he whispered softly but his voice slightly croaked from overwhelming emotion. It was a very close call.

He immediately transferred his life force to her through her mouth. Thin threads of golden light could be seen passing from his open mouth to hers. He was c.a.r.e.s.sing her cheek as he continued to give her strength.

Adis' eyes glistened in unshed tears as he saw her eyelashes fluttered a bit. Then, her eyelids slowly moved and it revealed her beautiful amber orbs that he loved so much. As he saw the lights came back in her eyes, his tears also dropped on her lovely face.

"Good morning, my love," He smiled tenderly as he gently spoke.

Haru cupped his cheek and wiped the teardrop away. She flashed him her captivating smile as she teased, "You're late."

Her voice was still hoarse due to the pain earlier but she couldn't be happier to see her King at this very moment.

They stared at each other faces for a while as if it's been ages since the last time they saw each other.

Adis finally broke the silence. "I will never let you go again. Even if you throw endless tantrums, I will embrace them all. As long as you are by side, I won't ask anything from this world anymore." He emotionally exclaimed and softly touched her lips with his. "Haru, you mean the world to me."

Haru responded by deepening the kiss, pouring all the love she had for him. Then, she whispered lovingly, "...And you, to me."

They enjoyed each other's small kisses despite being covered in blood.

Alastair, after recovering from Haru's brutal punches, looked around and saw that his magic circles and barriers were still working. So, how did King Adis able to get inside his barrier?

"H-how?" Alastair spoke his mind out.

Upon hearing his surprised voice, Haru finally remembered that the fight was still not over. She also looked around and was surprised for the same reason.

Her eyes widened as she asked in disbelief, "H-how?"

She knew that her husband was amazing, but this was too shocking. Getting through space, time and illusion all at once, he was really a peerless demon.

Her thoughts were written all over her face and Adis chuckled at her cuteness. He pretended that he did not hear anyone except his wife.

"Wife, Adis has a confession to make, but before I continue, please promise me that you won't be mad at Adis." He started to act cute again to gain her affection and so she would easily submit to his bidding.

Haru shook her head softly. This husband is a really dreadful enemy. She then nodded her head as she was also curious to find out how he appeared in front of her. 'Wait! Maybe the two blessings weren't that useless, after all?"

"It's the forbidden act." Adis immediately said as though he could read her mind.

Haru scowled upon hearing his words. She may be a troublesome student but she knew the forbidden act really well.

Based on the story centuries ago, an immortal man fell in love with an ordinary fair maiden. However, the maiden was already in love with someone else. Driven in madness and jealousy, the immortal man kidnapped the woman and r.a.p.ed her for seven consecutive days. On the eighth day, the maiden was able to find an opportunity to escape but the immortal caught her and brought her back to his home.

To prevent her from escaping again, he forced the maiden to drink his blood as he drank hers. The exchange of blood created an indestructible link between the couple. Even if the maiden would try to escape or leave, her body would still unconsciously look for her other half, hence she could no longer go back to her free life. As she cried for a whole month, an angel of the dark finally got annoyed and whispered to her ears.

"If you wish to be free, end your life. However, due to the blood link, you now shared the same life. If one dies, the other would die as well. The blood link also has the power to cut through time and space. Your love could find you anywhere as it knows no boundary. Wherever you go, even in death, you are forever bound."

In despair, the maiden took her own life, and the immortal's life also ended. The entire world was shocked and the laws forbade the act. As centuries passed, the act had been forgotten and was never heard of again.

Not until this very moment.

Haru was speechless for a moment, then she snapped at him. "Are you insane? Then that means if I really died today, you would also..."

"Haru," Adis called out her name sweetly as he smiled affectionately. "By now, you should have understood the gravity of my feelings to you. I'd rather breathe in my last than live the rest of my immortal life without you."
