Queen Of Adis

Chapter 23 - Too late

"Now, where is my wife?!"

BANG!

The door of the camp suddenly shut tightly, making the refugees shiver in fear. All the people inside this particular huge camp were humans. Most were nobles, clergymen and some of the powerful elders. But they all have one thing in common -- they were all affiliated with Duke Pier. They were specifically isolated from innocent civilians to be severely punished by their atrocities.

The camp grew silent. No one dared to breathe loudly or uttered a single whimper. After another minute had passed, another soul was burned mercilessly. His cry and scream were louder than the previous one, leaving a nightmarish experience to everyone.

A Valkyrie suddenly approached Adis and kneeled on the floor. "Your Majesty, please give this humble warrior a chance to compromise for my master."

Adis ignored her plea, and even though a minute had not passed yet, everyone saw the brave valkyrie burned and disintegrate.

Aquarius sternly commented, "Not pulling the trigger doesn't make you innocent. If anything, watching the crime and letting it happen is the worst of them all."

The people kowtowed and cried in front of Adis, asking for forgiveness and to show mercy.

His scowl deepened and angrily exclaimed. "You betrayed the Royal Family and even aided criminals for this tragedy to happen. Now, you tell me, why should I show mercy? As this King sees it, you all deserve to die!"

The people started to glare at Helena and blamed her for their grievances. As selfish humans, as they were, they totally forgot that they were all accomplices, and just would like to save their own asses.

Helena looked appalled at their actions. She was tempted to claw their faces with her sharp nails and exposed their true colors. She jolted and trembled when Adis shifted back his attention to her.

"Where is she?!" Adis roared like a ferocious beast at Helena. "I don't have time for this. If something happens to her, I swear, I will make you wish that you're dead."

Helena unconsciously chuckled as though her mind had snapped due to fear and misery. He whispered softly, "Hehe, too bad, I already pass that point." Then she laughed out loud like a maniac. She finally threw the white lotus act and revealed her true self. "Why don't we make a deal, my King. I will tell you where the Queen is, but you must marry me."

Adis scoffed in disdain, "You sold your soul to the criminals of Gehenna and abducted my Queen, yet you have the audacity to offer your wretched being to this great King? Be grateful that this King is still letting you live for another minute more. Right now, all I wanted is to throw you to the deepest level of Gehenna," he seethed.

Helena giggled, "Then, I'm afraid you will never see her again. And even if you do, you are already too late." Her villainous laugh echoed throughout the entire camp. "Those brutal criminals may have already satiated themselves by simultaneously raping her until she's broken. Just like what they did to-- Ugh!"

Helena was unable to finish her litany as Adis savagely lifted her up by choking her slender neck with one hand. The veins on his arms and face we're popping and the entire place shook as he roared.

The white on his eyes turned black and his pupils and irises turned bloody red. His fangs and the demonic spells on his entire body appeared. His demon self was coming out and no one could stop it.

"Yes, big brother, kill her now! Snap her neck and shred him into pieces," Zen cheered on him.

"No, big brother, death is too easy of a punishment. She must suffer for eternity." Aquarius unleashed his sadistic side.

The door at the camp creaked as it slowly opened. A beautiful man with long white hair and a lean body walked in. He had a noble yet snob air around him. His hands were placed behind his back and he held his head high as he nonchalantly approached the three Kings. He had two Valkyries behind and a royal butler beside him.

The newly arrived man spoke in his calm and wise voice. "Adis, I told you to be always cautious about your surroundings, didn't I?"

"Grandpa!" Zen brightened up as he ran towards the man.

Camus Delacroix, the famous Chief Elder of Trium Regum and the grandfather of the three Kings. Due to his longevity ability, he still looked young and seemed to be of the same age as Adis. He was the late King's father and Adis got his expressionless yet beautiful face from him.

Zen and Aquarius bowed to their grandfather to show their respect, but Adis seemed to not notice him. Camus ruffled Zen's unruly hair then continued to console him.

"Calm down, child. Your Queen is waiting for you. Instead of focusing on that wretched soul, why not focus on other perpetrators."

Adis looked at Camus and tilted his head in curiosity, but his fingers were still gripping his victim's neck. Helena, on the other hand, was struggling to break free, almost passing out from the lack of oxygen.

Camus looked at his butler and nodded. The loyal servant bowed and signaled the two Valkyries to bring their package.

The female warriors brought in a huge c.h.e.s.t effortlessly. As they opened the lid, everyone gasped and shivered at the sight of six men that were crammed inside the c.h.e.s.t. Their limbs were amputated and they're swimming in their own blood and filth. The people that could no longer take the scene and the stench vomited on the ground while some pissed in their pants.

"They hurt a good friend of mine. Too bad, they don't have scales so I could scr.a.p.e it from them, too. I wish for nothing but to give them excruciating deaths but I realized that you may need some information from them, so I brought them here." Camus explained calmly, as though he was just telling a weather forecast and did not just torture the fugitives until they were broken.

One of the criminals spoke with great difficulty. "K-Kill us already... I will tell you... everything... as long as you will finally end... my suffering."

Adis rudely threw Helena's unconscious body on the floor. She just passed out from his deadly grip but he made sure that she would still live to experience more sufferings later.

"Where is my wife?" Adis repeated for the nth time today.

The criminals could no longer move any parts of their bodies and were just starting with their blank eyes. They may be breathing, but their situation was more worst than death.

The criminal who spoke his deathwish tried to look at Adis but just ended up rolling his eyeballs to his direction. "She... must be under... Alastair's barrier."

"Alastair? The treacherous wizard?" Camus looked surprised. He did not expect that these villains had a powerful wizard with them. "I knew I should have killed him when he betrayed my son a long time ago." He shifted his attention to Adis. "If Alastair is involved, then..."

Camus couldn't finish his statement, afraid that they were really too late.

The three Kings knew who Alastair was. After all, he used to be a famous and the most powerful wizard in Trium Regum. He was also the late King's left prime minister and a good friend. More importantly, they knew how Alastair's ability works.

'So... that's why they couldn't feel the activation of either the Divine Protection or the Geyser of Life.' The three Kings gravely thought to themselves.

"Where did you take the Queen?" Aquarius asked.

"Ulric... was supposed to bring her to the abandoned area near the sacred church. They will bring her to the... Du-- Gahh!"

Helena, who regained her consciousness, suddenly attacked the criminal with a dagger she carefully hid from inside her dress. "You... stupid bastard... that should have been me... I should be the one... to tell him the place after he agreed to marry me!" She panted as she repeatedly stabbed her victim until he was completely mutilated. Her eyes were unfocused and cruel.

"Fi...nally," was the criminal's last word as he coughed black blood before death consumed him.

"Imbecile!" Adis growled as he swung his right hand. A sharp wind blade appeared and cut Helena's right arm.

Blood spurted out from the open wound and Helena's right limb rolled on the ground with a loud thud. Her terrifying shriek caused havoc to everyone's heart. Damien hurriedly helped her while crying her name loudly.

Adis shifted his attention to some of his Grim Reapers and barked his orders. "Go to the abandoned area near the sacred church and look for a place that may be unusual or suspicious. That wicked wizard was using rare and forbidden arts of Illusion, space and time. Move now!"

The Reapers immediately flew out of the camp to look for their Queen.

"How do you plan to look for her?" Camus asked. "The blessings are practically useless right now."

"There is a way, grandfather." Adis intently looked at Camus, his eyes reflected his unspoken words.

Camus' demon eyes grew wide as he exclaimed, "You foolish, grandchild! You did the forbidden act?"

Adis' silence served as confirmation to Camus' question.

Camus and the two other Kings just shook their heads in shock and disbelief. This lovesick King would do everything just to keep his Queen by his side, even if it means accompanying her in the afterlife.

Adis turned around to follow his Reapers, but not before he said his piece to Camus. "Grandfather, leave these sinners to me. I would like to punish them myself." He was referring to the fugitive of Gehenna and Helena. "To appease your anger for what they have done to General Triton, you may take care of these selfish humans, instead."

"Hmph, fair enough," Camus conceded.

As Adis walked out of the camp in haste, he instructed Fang and the remaining Reapers to bring the fugitives to the deepest level of Gehenna. Then, he finally disappeared.

The refugees in the camp sighed in relief. As long as the ruthless King Adis was not around, they had a chance to escape and became free again.

The Elders celebrated and stood up with confidence. The Chief Elder was present so they feel safe now. Camus was one of the reasons why the Elders of Trium Regum had grown bold and arrogant. They thought that as long as the grandfather of the Kings was their Chief Elder, they were indispensable.

However, they didn't know that Camus was very partial to his grandchildren. He pretended to be estranged to the Three Kings and chose to be the Chief Elder despite his dislike of politics just so he could spy the elders every movement, waiting for the chance to annihilate them all. In addition, Adis got most of his not-so-good traits from Camus, including his ruthlessness and sadistic nature.

Zen and Aquarius chose to be left behind. Their bones and joints cracked as they prepared to have fun. Finally, they could exact their revenge. The two Kings slowly changed their appearance to their true form while the door behind them slowly closed.

Outside the camp, mind-shattering cries and screams could be heard. Blood gushed out from the hinges and underneath the door frame. Not a single soul came out alive from that place.
