Redeeming The Sins Of Xu Rouguang [BL]

Chapter 49 - The Wrong Person

A heavy sigh came from Xu Rouguang as he stood in front of Bloodvein Café's back entry. The line for the demons who wanted to enter was growing, but Lai Mingjie could just easily waltz inside. However, for him, it was another nightmare waiting to annoy him.

The two walked in again, and all the faces that were there that night grimaced. There went the obnoxious immortal again. The demons would make another move, but they were a wee bit wiser now. Not only was this immortal awfully powerful, but the streets had also given a name for them to remember as soon as they saw his face.

The general was none other than General Xu Rouguang of the feared first battalion.

Which demon wanted to trifle with the first battalion? Even those who didn't know General Xu Rouguang should know other generals who lead factions and factions of the Imperial Army. One would be General Immaculate Ivory Qilin who led the third battalion. The first battalion was comprised of the elite of the elite, and so the generals in it had the liberty to command other battalions.

Why was General Xu in the demon haven? No one knew, but they guessed they could associate that with Emodao. Those who knew how bad their relationship was were all terrified upon seeing them together.

Botangca greeted them with a smile and a sly pose, using her flawless long legs as if attracting at least one of them and irritating the other. Xu Rouguang only softly snorted as he entered while Lai Mingjie was amused by his reaction. He then found his spot next to Botangca, which made Xu Rouguang's eyes widen.

Lai Mingjie wrapped an arm around her shoulders, spreading as much as he wanted. "I heard you have news now. Make sure it's all good, or else Xu Rouguang will rip you in pieces. Let's hear it then!"

"How awful of you." Botangca's seductive smile dropped as soon as she heard about getting ripped apart. Xu Rouguang might not have his memories, but his ruthlessness and monstrosity seemed to have doubled. She was afraid that he would indeed rip her apart. If he decimated a mutated Dunzhao, what more for her who kept only a portion of her power?

"Speak... please." Xu Rouguang sat on the couch opposite of them. He only had his hands on his t.h.i.g.hs and his eyes glued at her.

"Alright." Botangca sighed, clinging to Lai Mingjie's arm as if giving herself support and strength. "Initially, I only had the rumored ritual as a stepping stone. After what happened with Dunzhao and General Qilin, I have reasons to believe that General Xu lost his memories due to some complications of an incomplete ritual. His fighting prowess and knowledge of his nature and power had stayed. Rather than being sacrificed, the memories were pushed out.

"I dropped everything I was doing and started over. Instead of looking at Xu Rouguang and the rumors, I decided to take steps back. Severed Glacier recently passed away, but he had been the closest person to General Xu. He came to Crimson fifteen years earlier..."

The more Botangca spoke about Severed Glacier, the worse Xu Rouguang felt. He didn't know why, but he felt like he didn't want her to speak about him like he was just a puny personality. His fingers clawed at his t.h.i.g.hs, his teeth somewhat beginning to dig on his lower lip.

Lai Mingjie knew of those things, but he didn't know why she was discussing that man in the first place.

"Do you know why I know all of this?" Botangca didn't realize no one was listening to her talk. She only noticed the awful expression on Xu Rouguang's face when she finished. The demon empress then chuckled. "It seemed that the demons knew the heavens were up to something when he came. Severed Glacier was the first member of the first battalion to grace our lands after all. He was a sight to behold even though he was more of a background character in the tall story.

"So when he descended, they kept tabs on his actions. He blended so well with the humans that everyone knew it wasn't his first day on the modern earth. And to think that he had a human family?" Botangca shifted her weight, worried that she was dragging to talk for too long. "Of course, the demons also found out that a year ago, he picked up a man from the abandoned park in the south of the city. No one knew how he ended up there, but Severed Glacier gave shelter to the man nonetheless.

"Due to the times that passed and because no demon normally survived close encounters with General Xu, none of them identified him until later." She got off of Lai Mingjie and supported her body with her elbows on her knees, her neckline showing a generous sight of her c.h.e.s.t. However, Xu Rouguang wasn't interested; neither was he happy with the view. She continued nonetheless: "One year ago, General Xu suddenly popped out of nowhere. What was interesting is that... four days before he was found by Severed Glacier... a slaughter happened in an abandoned barn house kilometers from that park.

"Twenty-eight people were found dead... all had some limbs blasted into pieces. They were wearing funny robes with a weird sign." Botangca's eyes glowed in mischief. "Based on my sources, the ritual of bringing a demon back from the Abyss required plenty of human sacrifices. Perhaps... a ritual had gone underway, and they managed to summon General Xu from the Abyss."

Lai Mingjie hummed before shaking his head. "Heh, it's all believable, but something doesn't make sense. Why would they summon General Xu? Also, only the immortals knew that General Xu was thrown into the Abyss—not to mention that no one would summon an immortal through blood sacrifices."

The demon empress only shook her head. "About the motives of the ritual, I haven't gotten anything." She then looked at Xu Rouguang again. "Though, that would explain why your memories could have been pushed out when you rose. It's either they just wanted you to be under their control—"

"Or they summoned the wrong person." Xu Rouguang's eyes suddenly flashed with murderous intent. Subsequently, his dense deathly aura pulsed through the place. He got up and left without even bothering about Lai Mingjie. He even turned into a light arrow and busted through the roof.

"My ceiling!" Botangca saw his action through the mezzanine window. She then sighed and shook her head. "I don't know why he ran out, but I'm hoping you'll pay for his damages."

Lai Mingjie was silent as he stared at the path Xu Rouguang took. He was still thinking about everything Botangca said and was trying to piece everything together when Xu Rouguang acted. The demon king only sighed and leaned against the couch some more. "Summoned the wrong person? If General Xu was the wrong person, then who are they trying to summon?"

He spotted the drink offered to them beforehand and tried not to waste it. However, as soon as he touched the glass, his eyes widened at an epiphany. How stupid could he get that he had forgotten so much after just spending three days in the hospital? He gritted his teeth and slammed his fist on the table.

As if the demon king that he had always been, he glared at Botangca's direction. "Botangca, reach out to other places outside of the city. Find more similar rituals that happened within the century. If my hunch is right, some people are raising demon kings and sentinels from the Abyss."

Botangca's eyes widened for a second. A smile was about to reach her face as if dismissing him. Then again, she realized what they had forgotten. "Dunzhao."
