The Strongest Fox-Demon (9)

After realizing that Zhuang Yulang did not actually show Chu Xiang his favor, Bai Yi could finally understand Chu Xiang’s indifference towards him. In the first place, their kind had always been the reclusive type — rarely would they ever pay much attention to the humans without anything special or any connections to them. Just like how she had no interest in any other humans, Chu Xiang naturally did not have any interest in Zhuang Yulang. At the end of the day, Chu Xiang was only there to accompany her.

Having come to that realization, Bai Yi felt extremely touched. Chu Xiang had always been the only one who stayed by her side and cared for her. Not wanting Zhuang Yulang to distract Chu Xiang from her cultivation, Bai Yi jumped around playfully around him — successfully grabbing his sole attention.

Seeing Chu Xiang going back to sleep — still ignoring him like before — Zhuang Yulang no longer tried calling out for her. Instead, he closed his windows and went to sleep with Bai Yi in his embrace.

While Zhuang Yulang only saw Bai Yi as a fluffy and cuddly pet, Bai Yi treated this moment as her first time sharing a bed with a man.

At first, she thought Zhuang Yulang called her in to play with her. Who knew he would only call her in to use her as a pillow!

Feeling Bai Yi move around uneasily, Bai Yi promptly tightened his hug on her slightly. He then patted her on the head gently with his eyes closed before saying, “Be a good girl and go to sleep, Xue’er. If my mom finds out, she is definitely going to throw a fit once again. Good girl.”

At first, Bai Yi could feel her heart softening. However, she could not help but think along the lines of Chu Xiang. If her son had said that about her behind her back, wouldn’t she feel uneasy even if he was just talking to a small animal?

Pressing down against Zhuang Yulang’s neck, Bai Yi could feel the warmth of his body. In spite of her thoughts, she could not help but settle as she leaned closer toward him, slowly drifting into the realm of her dreams. She felt rather reassured, sleeping next to her benefactor who saved her.

Only after making sure everyone in the house had fallen into deep sleep did Chu Xiang jump up onto the rooftop. Taking out her Spirit Absorbing Array Plate from her space, she laid down on the array plate before she began circulating her cultivation and absorbing the Heaven and Earth Essence from her surroundings.

The fox spirit cultivation is rather unique as it is considered one of the more superior cultivation amongst the other types of cultivation methods. While one would not need to expend much effort to absorb the Heaven and Earth Essence, it will nevertheless yield a great result in one’s cultivation. However, the only downside to this cultivation method is that it is much more difficult to become an immortal later on. While ten may attempt to attain the status of an immortal, only one at most would end up becoming a fox immortal.

Even so, it wasn’t as if this was Chu Xiang’s only life. Things would surely go smoothly as long as she continues cultivating properly. As a former witch cultivator, Chu Xiang had certainly come across many cultivation techniques she found difficult to comprehend. However, she had never come across one as easy as this one — solely the Heaven and Earth Essence to cultivate. Not needing to walk through a path of thorns as she did in the past, she naturally found this cultivation method to be quite refreshing and easy to learn.

In the early morning of the second day, Zhuang Yulang made sure to wake up and place Bai Yi outside before his mother woke up. On the following nights, he would do the same as Zhuang Liu would never once find out.

With Bai Yi there, the house would always be at the perfect temperature — neither too cold nor too hot. Furthermore, the rice cooking in the pot would always remain warm and thus did not need much paying attention to. And for unknown reasons, Zhuang Yulang’s ink would also last longer than usual. Thus, he did not need to grind ink as often.

Not daring to expose herself, Bai Yi could only do so much to help out the family. Even so, these small little things would nevertheless add up to lessen the burden of the mother and son in the house.

At one point, Bai Yi had even deliberately placed a piece of gold on the path that Zhuang Yulang would usually take while going out. However, he actually ended up sending it to the authorities immediately after picking it up!

Shocked by his unexpected actions, Bai Yi gleefully went to look for Chu Xiang.

“My benefactor is truly a kindhearted man! He could have easily been able to buy good food and clothes using that large piece of gold. He could even have lessened even more of his mother’s burdens with it. However, he brought it over to the authorities and even requested the government to search for the person who lost that piece of gold since the person who lost it must be in a panic. What an amazing person! My eyes truly have not failed me!”

“Xiang’er, could you help me come up with some way to increase the wealth and honor of their family? They’re certainly not ones who would be willing to gain such things through coincidence. What should I do?”
