Golden Agent of the Adonis (32)

Fang Zhenxuan saw her from the mirror and brought her the blanket that was on the sofa. Chu Xiang wrapped herself in the blanket and said with a light smile, “Chen Lifeng, are you perhaps feeling nervous  right now? How is it? Have you figured out how to handle the public relations aspect of this case? Do you need my cooperation?”

Chen Lifeng had prepared himself for a round of lecturing, but he didn’t expect Chu Xiang to be laughing and jesting. He couldn’t figure out what she was trying to say as he asked tentatively, “Are you willing to cooperate with me? What kind of tricks are you playing?”

Chu Xiang crossed her legs while she sat on the sofa, smiling, “With the amount of years that we have known each other, you should know that I am the least likely person who will be playing tricks. Based on the many years of friendship that we shared, I should help you out when you’re in trouble. But…”

“But what?” Chen Lifeng grabbed the phone tightly, subconsciously tensing up. He didn’t want anything else to happen at this point.

Chu Xiang said slowly, “But… I have always paid attention to fairness and equality, so I will treat others the way they treat me. Otherwise, wouldn’t I be at a disadvantage? You see, when I was cooperating with you, I straightforwardly handed you a ticket and practically guaranteed a great networking opportunity for you. Now that the situation is reversed, shouldn’t you also express your sincerity in some way?”

Chen Lifeng’s eyes widened instantly as he was in disbelief, “What are you talking about? You’re vying for my resources? Chu Xiang! How did you become so utilitarian? When did you start doing such a thing?”

Chu Xiang said rather nonchalantly, “This afternoon, actually. When I gave you the slot for the couple variety show, weren’t you also rather utilitarian as well? I’m calling it, ‘learning and selling on-the-spot’; is there anything wrong with that?”

“You!” Chen Lifeng took a deep breath, suppressed his anger and said, “Okay, I’ll give it to you. What resources do you want? You want to support that newcomer, Fang something, right? Zhou Yuan’s studio is going to shoot a web drama, so I’ll chip in and give him the role of male actor number 3, okay?”

Chu Xiang laughed out loud and leaned on the sofa’s armrest. Fang Zhenxuan heard that she seemed to be talking about him, so he also sat on the sofa as he held the biography of the character whilst paying attention to Chu Xiang.

Chen Lifeng was annoyed by Chu Xiang’s laugh. Gritting his teeth, he said, “What are you laughing at? You wanted resources and that’s exactly what I gave you; what’s so funny about that?”

A smile could be heard in Chu Xiang’s voice, “I’m laughing at you for being an idiot. At this point in time, you’re not giving me a satisfying resource to calm the turmoil on the Internet and yet, you’re behaving so stingily while tossing the role of actor number 3 for me. Do you think of me as an idiot or are you actually stupid? What I gave you was ‘Love’s Dream Journey’. Forget about giving me the role of the male lead or the 2nd lead, did you seriously think that giving me a random actor number 3 would be sufficient for that?”

Chen Lifeng had never seen Chu Xiang being this difficult to please. They have been working together for 8 years, so it was impossible for him to change his established impression of her in one day. Even if his words and deeds inevitably conveyed a sense of superiority over Chu Xiang, she had always let him behave how he wanted to.

But Chu Xiang’s current words reminded him that she would not help him now unless he had enough chips in his hands. Besides, he was the one who most anxiously needed aid, whereas Chu Xiang wasn’t rushing in the slightest.

He held back his anger and asked, “What do you want? What kind of resources will satisfy you? Don’t forget that the artist you just signed is a pure rookie. Just because he looks good, it doesn’t mean he can be popular. What resources do you want in order to support him?”

Chen Lifeng’s voice was rather loud, to the point where even Fang Zhenxuan could hear it from the side. He couldn’t help but glance atChu Xiang, who smiled at him and said, “Thank you for praising this little brother of mine for being handsome. He will definitely become popular, so I will naturally use the best resources I have to support him. Let’s make this direct— I want you to help me obtain the resources for ‘Extreme Mode’.

Like Fang Zhenxuan, Chen Lifeng thought he was hallucinating for a moment, “What did you say? ‘Extreme Mode’?” He let out a slur of laughter before he continued, “Have you gone insane? Do you think that the role of an MC in ‘Extreme Mode’ is something that a little newbie can handle and take on? If you have that thought in mind, you might as well be daydreaming.”

“I don’t care how you do it, but I want it done by tonight. Aren’t you just trailing behind Zhou Yuan just for her resources? If you can’t even get this done, then I have to say that you’re much too useless. There isn’t a second option for you— when you provide me with the means to ‘Extreme Mode’, I’ll provide my cooperation to deal with the public, so do think about it properly. If you’re not going to agree to it, then don’t bother to contact me anymore while you wait for your demise.”

After Chu Xiang finished speaking, she hung up the phone. She still had other matters to take care of, but she believed that Chen Lifeng was going to give her a satisfactory answer soon enough.

Chen Lifeng immediately called Chu Xiang again, but she didn’t answer. She had placed her phone on silent mode, left it on the coffee table and proceeded to rest on the sofa.
