Return Of Aegis

Chapter 17 - Rankings

Rrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggg!!

Waking up, ZeLin went to brush his teeth, he knocked on ZeRen's door till he woke too. ZeRen went straight for the coffee machine, he made himself a double espresso and popped a hot choco for ZeLin.

In a hurry to head back to Aegis, ZeLin dropped cubes of ice into the hot choco, took a long swig, finishing the entire mug, then went to his pod, ZeRen got into his also after taking his espresso.

[Welcome to Aegis, the server will be up in 5..4..3..2..1]

ZeRen waved to Lady Sif, making her sigh as she had to choose another spot. She had just came back from break, the system randomized her spot but thanks to ZeRen, she had to shift spot right away.

During the break, Sif was in discussion with Slyph about ZeRen. She saw a lot of her youth in him, they could not access his files, so they could only guess his background. Slyph even wanted to report him as a bug or cheater, but Sif disagreed. She had been recording him since he first got his scores. She had reviewed him in the past 4 hours, detecting nothing.

ZeRen had waved on purpose, he saw a group of new players walking towards Lady Sif, so he made her shift her spot. "It's little trollings like this that keeps the game fun," thought ZeRen as he walked to the teleportation station.

As he passed the middle of the village, there was a crowd standing in front of a board. It wasn't there previously, but it was now. "That's probably the ranking board," thought ZeRen. He too went to have a look.

In Aegis, you could hide your name for most achievements, but you could not hide your name on certain rankings. Sure enough, he spotted his name in a few categories, namely:

Top Elf Archer : Rank 1 - Lv 10

Top Elf Race : Rank 2 - Lv 10

Top Elf Skill Creator: Rank 1 - 5 skills created

He was in Rank 1 in Top Elf Archer, but he wasn't alone, there were around 15 others who shared the same rank. In Top Elf Race, he shared rank 2 with another Archer, the one in front of him was a level 15 Elf Assassin.

To view other race rankings, one would have to use city ranking boards. This beginner village only showed newbie and same race only.

After viewing, he continued his journey to the teleportation station. As he had to travel to another continent, he had to pay 50 silver. After paying the NPC, he left to Sum City, the journey would take 10 minutes in real time.

ZeLin being more competitive than his brother, rushed to a ranking board the moment he could log in. As he had logged out inside the class change tent, he just had to walk outside.

ZeLin grinned widely as he saw his name appear on many sections, to name a few:

Top Dwarf Novice Smith : Rank 1 - Intermediate Stage - Perfection Rank

Top Dwarf : Rank 1 - Level 10

Top Forge : Rank 1 - 8 Weapons 0 Armor 0 Accessory

Till now he had yet to see another dwarf player, so he was confident he could be top for almost all categories.

Happy, he walked to the teleportation station, paid the 50 silvers then teleported to Sum City.

Both ZeLin and ZeRen arrived at Sum City at the same time, getting off the platform, ZeRen added ZeLin to the party. First stop, they went to the auction house. As it was the first time actually visiting this place, the took the scenic route to explore the city.

Near the teleportation station, was the city guard barracks, beside it, the Market and Auction house.

Noticing the Auction house, ZeLin said to head in for a bit, to see if any of the [Wind Dagger] got sold. Sure enough, upon checking, two had been taken up. There wasn't even a bid for both, it was a straight buyout, 30 minutes apart.

On the other side of the planet, it was a mega whale who bought up the two daggers. "Whale" was a term for pay-to-win players, especially those who forked out tons of real money to buy something in game. The reason this person was called a mega whale was because he somehow managed to get his hands on 20G so early in the game, the only way possible was to buy in-game currency from other players. Current exchange rate was 1G = USD$1,000. 20G was USD$20,000.

ZeLin collected the 18G (2G deducted as service tax), rattling the bag of gold coins in front of ZeRen, they both grinned as they now had enough to set up their guild.

While ZeRen was collecting his money, ZeLin took a quick peek at the Guilds Ranking Board. There were no names there yet, meaning, no one had the capital to start one yet.
